I don't believe that space exploration is the only hope for mankind because in a capitalistic Society the entirety of mankind will not benefit , only the rich will.

We no longer have the technology to make supersonic commercial airlines or Stradivarius violins, this is because the technology used to make these originals is not worth the effort.
Today's space technology is light years ahead of the Appolo missions, and when we do go back to the moon it will be with rockets that are sustainable, capable of flying back and forth, cheaper, much safer, and eventually able to make a profit.
Back then the Apollo rockets were big expensive, overpowered, wasteful good for nothing crafts that were there to show we could go there.
Think of it this way, the first suspension bridges like the Brooklyn Bridge were made of stone and were super expensive and way stronger than it had to be. But now modern bridges are more practical, lighter, cheaper, and easier to make and if we had to go back and make the Brooklyn Bridge with today's technology it would be ten times harder than it was then.
