Nas changes controversial album title

Why pick and publicize and even merchandise such a controversial name,
without first finding out if you can USE said name?

Don't Nasty Nas got PEOPLE?

You sir, are the stupid black PERSON....

if this story is true..
dude should just retire..
there is no coming back from this..

He took this big ass stand and frankly embarrassed himself with poor explanations, and all for nothing.

Homie is my favorite living rapper (actually a tie with Andre) but damn, he be on some bullshit cuz.
Bottomline. As i stated in the thread from the grammys that night, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in the name of artistic expression and freedom of speech. When he paraded himself on the international stage that is the grammys and was unable to articulate his point, i immediately lost faith in him and this project. Coming out with such a provacative and sensitive statement requires that you be wiling and able to have intelligent discourse on the matter while communicating your intent. He put himself on stage and when given the mic to speak on the issue he laid an egg. The minute he stunk up the joint while failing miserably at providing a explanation behind his decision to name that album ******, i knew he was destined for failure.

Im sure the powers that be who greenlit the project were willing to support him until he made it nearly impossible with that abortion of an advertising campaign during grammy night.

The night at the grammys was the begginning of the end. He went from potentially making a profound and risky symbolic statement to sounding and looking like a complete moron in a matter of seconds.

...as expected. Fuck a title, I'm more concerned with the content of the album.

no kayne is an entertainer nas help develop the art form thus he is an artist. my second point the man that writes his checks says he loves the be a nigga too single.

:rolleyes:He's an entertainer along with kanye west,I hate when nas fans jump out the windwon when it comes to what he did and doing. If the who writes the man who writes Nas's checks...says" CHANGE THE ALBUM'S TITLE".Thats the final say.
(music BUSINESS entertainer..............artist,art form)
Nas should be in a position to put out an album with or without someone telling him no,but I guess he hasn't got to that point yet.

are you people really THAT stupid? at the end of the day it isnt up to him. shit even the cover artwork isnt up to him. like my man said the title changed NOT the content of the album. you buy an album for the content NOT the title. my man gots to do what he gots to do to aint no store carrying an album called ****** and WE ALL KNOW THIS ALREADY :smh:

Im gonna still BUY this album. Id like to check it out. Nas is my most favorite rapper. But changing the title does hurt his credibilty. im mean damn. I hope this album is good.....

I'm willing to bet most of us have no idea what type of legal/corporate/label pressure there was because of this title. SMH at dudes in here acting like they're LA Reid and shit.

It's always easy to sit on the sidelines and say what someone should have done.

I'm a fan of Nas's music but I think he fucked up the first day he even thought to give his album that title. But maybe it was just a publicity stunt because he had to know from the jump that he wasn't getting corporate backing on that shit. I hope Nas doesn't really see himself as an independent "artist"

I'm willing to bet that he knew that going in and that he looks like a straight pussy ass NIGGA right now for folding after setting up a stunt like that with no net.

Matter of fact, he should keep the title, and just put PUSSY ASS in front of the word to differentiate himself from real niggas!

Nas didnt have to do this shit. He started losing me as fan right when he started this campaign, and now he has really showed his ass to be just what NYOIL and Jay Z said he was- A fraud.

he won the battle with Ether but Jay won the war

:yes::yes:

I only think the title was bad due to Nas popularity.

Imagine how all the black music section workers would feel all day with white folks coming in saying.

"Yo you got that new nigga."

"You don't have any nigg_rs in the back."

It would have been a lot of assault cases.

:lol::lol: that's funny. but, i feel if we keep letting them let that word effect us, then it's always gonna have more power than it should. :dunno:
I didn't make a big deal about it, I just found it bold, especially because I was trying to be "polite" and dance around the title.

"I wanted to see if you have the new Randall Kennedy book?"

*White employee looks it up.*

"Oh, you mean Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word?"

"Uh, yeah."

What could I say?

I was lecturing a black friend of mine about this last night, calling this Mexican guy "nigga" but he had an issue with this Mexican and white pair of guys talking about "what's up, nigga" back and forth (which caused me to tell their asses to shut the hell up).

I don't think you can keep putting it out there and have a right to any offense.

I don't really put it out there, unless I'm making a point (I won't sacrifice the point; I don't believe in "bad words").

The title may be inappropiate but "never the less" I still think Nas is one of the most prolific lyricist in the rap game.
He's in my top ten of rappers.

i get your point. i just gave nas the benefit of the doubt, that he was going to do something thought provoking with his album.

He looks like a fool now
He should just leak the whole ****** album and have the underground go crazy wit it and do a fresh new album , new theme...fuck it. He has 100's of records recordeds.

Maybe the immature bastard just fell off a high and noticed that naming his album the n-word would hurt more than help us(blacks)
just a thought from a Nas fan.

Yup...Nas can never win with these dudes, so sometimes it's best to let these girls complain

yep, i remember everybody saying da nigga was stupid for naming it that. most niggas just follow popular opinion. i think nas knew all along that he wasn't going to release with that title. i think business wise, it was a good move. without spend much on marketing, he got everybody talking bout da album.
