My Elk Hunt - Success

Greetings Fam,

I just returned from an Elk hunt in Arizona. I drew an antlerless tag in January. It was my first big game hunt, and I bagged me a cow elk.

I shot it at about 150 yards with a 300 WinMag, 180 grain Hornady Outfitter ammo. The elk weighed in at a little over 700 pounds.

I was sitting in the woods thinking, "A kid from South Central LA, grows up and is now hunting big game in the woods." Life can be crazy funny sometimes.

Just do it, Bro. People are quick to tell you what you can't do. I'm from the hood, so I know what that negativity is like.

I read everything I could on elk behavior. I wasn't ready for the nights in the forest though. It was pitch black. I was nervous because bears and mountain lions were out there. The silence was scary. Then I thought to myself, "You have mutha-fuckin' 300 win mag in your hands. Nothing out here can mess with that." The rest is history.

I definitely plan on it. I ain't gonna lie that the nights in the forest concern me a bit, cuz them predators aren't going to make themselves known if they're hunting you, but it's def on my list if things to do once things settle for me. Moved earlier this year and still getting acclimated. I'll likely be tapping on your virtual shoulder at some point for some guidance. Appreciate it.

First time I ever went hunting, was when I was working at my first job out of college.
Went hunting with some CAC salesmen that we just did business with.
Took me on a PJ to Sonora, TX to go Turkey hunting.
Sat in a blind for 6 hrs waiting for something to pop off.
I felt really bad when I got my first kill.
Didn't really have the stomach for it.
I eventually got over it, but that first kill was tough for me.
