You turn on the radio these days and you hear the most popular tracks bombarding the airwaves. It has a nice beat, repetitive yet catchy lyrics and someone who can also model professionally singing it. Well maybe not all the time but a lot of the time yes.

Do you enjoy the music any less or anymore if they are no sexy dancers on stage with the singer or she/he is not wearing something that makes your jaw drop with a :eek:.

Beyonce vs Jill Scot. Two totally different type of singers yes physically as well as different music they release. If we were to switch voices with these two singers would they still have achieved the same level of success that they both enjoy now.

Beyonce would still make it with a Jill Scot type voice and singing that type of music I am sure but would Jill with a Beyonce type voice be able to market herself in the genre that Beyonce enjoys now?

P.S Both singers have nice voices in my opinion but one of them sings real soulful music while the other one is heavily commercialized and sells her sexy image as well.

Can't even watch a music video nowadays without seeing half nekked ppl in dem. I prefer to listen to words and the vibe that the song and the artist are bringing. No matter the genre.

Peace

my favorite female singer right now is lizz wright , not a stunning beauty , but something about her voice touches me , honestly don't pay much attention to what they play on the radio

If you listen to reggae, hardcore blues or jazz these singers don't have the best voices, yet they're successful. Its the message in the music, its the lyrics and its their styles that make the difference.

As for Beyonce and Jill, I believe they both would still make it singing each others songs simply because they both are very talented. You haven't seen the best from either of these talented ladies IMO. Different styles no question.

I believe you will see Beyonce's style change somewhat as she ages. I don't think she wants to be another Tina, although Beyonce has tremendous crossover appeal. I think she'll start singing more soulful music and possibly get serious about acting.

Jill will keep doing her thing, Jill's established her own style and its working for her and will continue to work for her. Plus she's branching out into clothing and I'm sure other business ventures.

I haven't really watched a music video (except for ones posted here) in over 10+ years. It is the music, words, and beat that captures me, which has lead me to listen to and enjoy music from Classical to Jazz to House to R&B to Rock . . .

I love Lizz Wright as well, and another "Lizz" by the name of Lizz Fields (who sounds like Jill Scott's younger sister, but whom I've not heard from since her debut). I am so glad for Satellite and Internet Radio! I do not have to be subjected to the crap they play on the radio.

After watching Dreamgirls I realised that yes, Beyonce does have a nice voice but if you were to straight swap her wit Jill in her music videos and outfits, Jill would not get the same success because she is not that marketable as a sex symbol for the audience that Beyonce enjoys.

A lot of the up and coming singers are being defined by their image and not their music and are finding that their careers are really fragile.

A song with great lyrics and rhythm will become a classic but all fluff and no substance will feature on VH1's worst or stupidest list at some point or another in the future.:smh:

Sure it is catchy and snags your attention the first twenty times you hear it but then you are forced to listen to the actual content and you realise you been deceived by a razzle dazzle with nothing behind it.

I think men moreso buy into the sexual attractiveness of a singer- hence why Rihanna is doing so well. I know at least 2 guys who were all about her, just because she was cute. I think that in the beyonce vs. Jill argument, both of them are extremely talented in their own genre's. Beyonce is the cross-over princess and Jill is the neo-soul wonder woman... both extremely talented...

Ok since i is a Bajan i hesitate to mention Rihanna in any comparison with anyone because while i am happy for her success i realise that she has not cemented her career with any solid songs per se which will leave her mark on the music scene for years to come. I sincerely doubt that in twenty years time anyone will be calling in on the radio and requesting the classic song Umbrella la la la la la :smh::lol:

She has a large teenage audience and some young adults right now so may she make her cheddar while it is there to be made.

My point is this simply without the heavy rotation of music videos, skimpy outfits, sexy dancers and the heavy bombardment of radio play a lot of the songs which are sweeping the nation by storm would have never made it because they lack genuine soul behind them and no real message which grabs you and makes you listen.

So Crank that soulja boy and walk it out till you understand what popular music today is really all or not really about.:smh:

im a download guru. i download what i can and when i can.
my playlist stays bumping whoever has the illest albums. i have beyonce, rihanna, etc etc but alicia keys, cole davis, beverly knight, liv warfield get more playtime.
just an example but im sure you get my drift.

i dont buy albums anymore. only harddrives.

hmmmm interesting question

i believe as a whole we are buying into an image

a female can be horrible vocally, not be the best dancer but if she looks good she will get airplay : Ashanti, Cassie and the like

i mean think about it, if the artist didn't have a music video and you never saw them, would you still be a fan?

but then you have chics w/ BANGIN voices but not "the look" and they get very lil airplay or have to have guest appearances or souped up videos to get airplay.

i also believe we are buying into an image for guys also, but it isn't necessarily "sex"....its more like status, materialistic things, street cred, and sexual talk

let's face it...a GOOOOOOD portion of rappers are NOT cute and are SHORT...two things a lot of women SAY they don't like.
