He settled the lawsuit. The next year the singer was sued by another young woman from Chicago, named Patrice Jones. Jones estimated that she had sex with Kelly between 20 and 30 times before her 17th birthday. Jones states in her suit that R. Kelly impregnated her while she was underage and then arranged for one of his employees to take her to have an abortion. R. Kelly settled the lawsuit.
In June 2002, R Kelly was indicted on child pornography charges on account of a widely circulated sex tape where he was seen urinating on a young woman. Following a controversial trial where neither Kelly nor his alleged victim took the stand, Kelly was acquitted. Although prosecutors could not definitively say when the tape was made (or if it was indeed the alleged victim), multiple family members state it’s the alleged victim. A friend of the alleged victim claimed the tape was created in the summer after eighth grade.

"As if you didn't get enough of the R Kelly story, here's more." No one is condoning pedophilia, that's a red herring. You're the one missing the point the O.P. made in his thread title. First of all, everyone was not necessarily aware of some of the details laid out in the article. For almost 15 years I've been aware of those lawsuits and of R. Kelly's reputation for hawking adolescent girls in Chicago - yet there were things which OP shared that I hadn't heard of before today.
That thread title serves as a reminder of the true nature of this man whom so many in this thread are so quick to cape up for.
Secondly, the real issue is about scores of our black girls being preyed upon. These defenses of this predator by presumed Black men in this thread are shameful, embarrassing and pathetic. Our little girls have value, and truth be told, WE as Black men should be THEIR PROTECTORS instead of rushing to defend this slime.
Thirdly, this has NOTHING to do with how Black men as a whole are "portrayed in the media". We're not talking about some innocent victim of media crucifixion. The facts are that until the infamous sex-tape was announced, outside of Jim Derogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times' articles, the news media virtually ignored all the lawsuits and the reports of his trolling minors at Chicago schools.
What IS relevant is how R. Kelly has continued to be actively supported by so many Black folks regardless of what he's been doing to 100s of children. The way some are able to disconnect his alleged "great artistry" from his status as a serial sexual abuser of children - is disturbing to say the least.
