Who seeing him in a versus besides Usher?
Ne-yo don’t have the catalogue
Raheem DaVaughn got some nice hits
But we need to give the man his props
Sorry, this Jam came on shuffle while I was cleaning up so I made this thread

But from Brown Sugar to soundtracks, the man been blessing us with music for decades

He ain’t got enough albums or hits to touch usher. Only Chris Brown could go against Usher and he’d probably kill usher

His TWO albums were cultural rifts! That first album had an entire generation of women changing their nicknames to some variation of Brown Sugar. Then Voodoo had every fat motherfcuker STARVING themselves trying to get a six pack and that V crotch thing. His album cover was practically the first male thirst trap.

i could get with this selection

maxwell had several albums, but in my mind, he came out the gate like a supernova with the first one...urban hang suite...you could play the first seven songs on that album back to back and it sounded like one long groove...you could chill on the sofa, a cold drink in one hand and a hottie in the other, press play...and a good time was going to be had that night

i couldn't tell you a single song off of any other maxwell album after that first one - it was that good. dude is still eating off of this first album [almost 30 years old] in live performances today...just saw him when he came to l.a. a few months ago, and almost every time he comes into town...

mano o mano - d'angelo can hang with maxwell overall talent wise, but no one in the neo soul era is going to beat urban hang suite off the strength of one album, [possibly...erykah badu's debut first album baduizm]

He’s disqualified for obvious reasons :roflmao:

Music is subjective. But D'Angelo, ushered in a genre/movement with his style. When most think of "Neo-Soul," D'Angelo jumps into our minds right off the bat.

I may bump a few songs from Usher, but his impact on me is minimal. Whereas, D'Angelo gets bumped in my ride almost everyday.

For me, this isn't even a contest, especially if we're talking about quality and impact. I'd say Chris Brown and Usher if you're talking about showmanship and hype. But when it comes to quality, again D'Angelo wins hands down.

That’s what I’m saying, as far as real grown man music, D’Angelo is the man
Maxwell will do a woman’s with you go against How does it feel but D has so much not in his bag it’s unreal

Honestly dude has talent, but that video is what did it. Great song, but chicks went crazy over a half naked dude singing & that whats fucked up his career. He said he never wanted to do that type of video cause he wasn't comfortable. You take away that video & the female response and I wonder if the song would have been as successful.
