Music Class: Memphis Bleek says ETHER is over-rated

You rewriting history from like a FOX news report. You have to understand the Jay was on top of the mountain on every way. He had the sales, the shows and most importantly, the NY DJs and personalities were jocking him to death.

When The Takeover came out, the streets announced that Nas was dead...

But when Ether came out, it was the greatest counter punch off all time.

And when it went to a vote in NY, the street weighed in, and from then on Nas has been the people's champ.

The reason Ether was so prophetic, you can tell it fucked with Jay's psyche for a few albums afterward.

IT DID BURN SLOW.

Jay never, never got over that defeat.

Never...

was just saying the same thing above... the response was so nasty that we all collectively did a :eek:

i remember listening to that shit with my boy and his cousin and we were just like damn nas...you wrong :smh::smh:

What did Ether really do to Jay at the end of the day?

doesn't matter what it did to careers man.. that shit was about two MCs going to battle and one mashing on the other one on wax... people talking about careers and all that other shit are missing the point...

This is all opinion: but I remember hearing Takeover first time and thinking that was harsh, then I recall hearing Ether first time and having to rewind it several times and call some of the homies. Ether became a verb in the hip hop lexicon too. Ether>Takeover

that's what Im saying man :lol: people were acting like Jay was a cousin that got shot or some shit... homies was calling up like man... did you hear what happened to Jay :smh::smh: :(

Godson? what this nikka thinking he Jesus got a cross on his arm but he talking bout Allah are you muslim or christian I forgot you think you God

QB on his chain please give it back to lil kim

You mad and dumb.

1. Godson does not mean Jesus.
2. Muslims see Jesus as a prophet.
3. Lil Kim is from Brooklyn not QB so why give her the chain back?

Ehter was such a patient roast. That third round, nothing but slugs.:itsawrap:

Bleek wouldn't know nothing about that.

 that's like if I challenge you to a fist fight, and you give me the one hitter quitter. Than I get a raise at my job. Does that mean I lost the fight but won the war?
I don't get it

Jay ended careers with half a bar....

Who's career did it end?

Stillmatic went double platinum and That Braveheart shit was dead before it dropped.

Jays lyrics had nothing to do with it.

Oh, and another unspoken irony: Jay lost his longtime inspiration Jaz O indirectly over the record. And him and Nas ended their feud long since. Go figure...

true...

but he did CRUSH Jungle with a mere mention and Bravehearts were FAR from done, but they sucked I'll grant you that and Prodigy got walloped fairly effortlessly. When I say career ender I mean it but a DEAD STOP to anything they were doing...ANYTHING.

That didn't happen to Jay or Rockafella.

50 Cent RUINED Murder Inc (the fed case didn't help, weak roster after Ja, Ashante and 7 and over saturation of their music)

So I think there is categories to diss records...

LYRICALLY and OVERALL production Takeover is better (you can't argue that really) but in the streets in peoples hearts and minds Ether is better....more guttural, visceral and emotional.

50 Cent Wanksta and I don't believe you murder were some of the most VICIOUS diss records ever that were not only accurate but lyrically and production wise killed Ja (even that NY NY record had to have Fat Joe and Jada on it so that don't count to me)

:itsawrap:

Compared to all Nas lies.

Search recently discredited Jay's assertion about Nas' publishing ( read previous post assuming you can read ). Sauce Money, Jay's childhood friend and loyalist to this day said Jay started dabbling in hustling in '94, so what '88 money?

You don't even know what Godson means so what good are you to this so called debate?:smh:

I was disappointed with P. 95-00 Prodigy was right up there with Nas lyrically. Expected at least a little more of of him

P was peaking...after I heard Keep it Thoro???

:itsawrap:

He is not appreciated enough but its his own fault for his bad reaction to Jay getting at him and then he stopped rhyming words and developed a more lazy almost conversational flow.

My empire strikes with the strength of poisonous snakes
My entire unit loaded up with snake niggas that hire stakes
We pull off a high stakes, great escapes, expand, shift team downstate
Dreams are growing over and my son'll live great
Little man I'm plannin to enhance your mindstate
The rebirth, a nigga who lived an ill life
The one before me was of an even more trife
My understandin, I'll raise you with precise plannin
And put you on to the whole game of this planet
But I gotta survive in order to follow thru plans to live lot-o
Me and my lil' getgo, any man tryin to stop us he get wet-o
He couldn't withstand the snake bite, there is no antidote
Don't you put your hands too close and try to approach
I won't snap at you I'm goin for throats
And when you feel my bite 'cha sing high notes
I peeped you from deep and then you got cut throats
My formulae-I live life do or die
Stare into the eyes of a deep wiseguy
Prodigy turnin' niggas to proteges
My protege I advise ya ass to make way
Make way...for fully-auto gun spray
You're small prey, I'll easily bait and trap game
This man is half mad scientist-half sane
Create a rhyme labryinth like poisonous cannabis
Here take a toke of this daily rare vocalist
Overpower y'all, tiny noise like locust
Like sunlight thru a magnifying glass I'll focus em
Burn a hole straight thru ya brain and leave ya open (Oh shit!)
And let the venom soak in
You start sweatin and goin thru convulsions from dope shit I write
Leavin niggas stuck, I let spit
Trapped up in a web of a nigga that's sick
I'll wrap you up in cocoon, you caught up in the midst
As dangerous as risky business fuckin with this
Contender number one I put you on top of the list
You're the best challenger so far I'll give you this
But peep this (what?) fatal shots that soloplex
Man down, now who dares to go next?
Like General Monkmonk orders to chop necks
I send a message to my whole clique to bomb shit
Atomic, no time for calm shit
We hyperactive and it's time for Vietnam bit
Ya whole alliance gets single handedly bomb-ded
Take heed to the apostle's warning
Word up!

:smh::smh::smh:

maybe you're not a jay stan, maybe you're a hip hop head but its evident that you don't like nas for whatever reason

Nope, nas is one of my favorite but ether overrated and he got spanked IMO. Just like Big is favorite rapper but Pac spanked him.

P was nasty in his early years one the hardest vs ever was on Apostles Warning

listening to p now is like listening to a whole different person, he def lost what he had and will never get it back

he spit ether on this, no pun intended

Man. I used to play the Infamous all day in the whip... that was the same summer I used to play the shit out of the Purple Tape... but I don't think P was ever on Nas' level in terms of lyrics.

IMO P on Murda Muzik & HNIC>>>Nas on I Am and Nastradamus.

I actually kinda stop caring about Nas until Jay woke him up

And P went harder at Pac than anybody, at least as far as I've heard

IMO P on Murda Muzik & HNIC>>>Nas on I Am and Nastradamus.

I actually kinda stop caring about Nas until Jay woke him up

i concur, i noticed the decline on the infamy album but it was still shades of him on that album but when amerikaz nightmare dropped i knew wit was over, ironic cause jay woke up nas and nas and jay put p to sleep it seems after takeover and destroy and rebuild

IMO P on Murda Muzik & HNIC>>>Nas on I Am and Nastradamus.

I don't disagree. I think we're talking about two different things though.... you're talking about albums and I'm just talking about being a MC... just straight lyricism. I've never considered P to even be close to the lyricist that Nas is.. i think Nas struggled with trying to sell records and chose bad songs to go mainstream...thus you got some albums with suspect shit on it

and Nastradamus was straight doo doo.... I remember listening to that shit and getting to "You Owe Me" with Ginuwine and straight popping out of the CD changer and breaking the CD and throwing that shit out...i was like :smh:

it took me a long ass time to forgive Nas for Nastradamus man :smh:

 Word. I guess it depends on what you look for in lyrics. Nas is definitely more descriptive, poetic and touches on more subjects but Prodigy was just so cold-blooded with the shit he was saying at the time.

man... I had erased Nastradamus from my memory man... that's back when I was actually purchasing music... I felt like a muthafucka had stuck me up and just took my $15...i was mad as fuck :angry::angry:

that was back when I used to listen to albums for the first time with my homies and shit... my boy just walked out after the first verse from.... You Owe Me... couldn't even take anymore... dude was literally looking like :(

:edit:... i don't think ive ever watched that fucking Video for "You Owe Me" either... i used to turn that shit with the quickness... it shouldn't even be possible for a muthafucka that dope to produce that kind of garbage

Prodigy knew how to paint pictures and personalize shit very well.

'You might bump into a bullet, or stumble on your death'

Project Windows and Last Words are really the joints on there I fucked with.

Nas is basically an underground mc that happened to achieve mainstream success. Whenever he attempts to make something pop. More times than not he fails miserably :smh:
