Multiple fatalities at AME church shooting in downtown Charleston

Muslim charities are helping to raise money for burned black churches in the US

Eight black churches have been burned down since the Charleston shootings, and Muslim charities have succeeded in their goal to raise $20,000 in an effort to rebuild them.

At the time of writing the project, launched last Thursday, has raised $21,688 (£14,000) from 495 contributors, making the mean donation in the region of $44.

A statement on the fundraising page said:
"All houses of worship are sanctuaries, a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear.
We are calling on you to help add our support to faith communities across the country pooling their resources to rebuild these churches. As Muslims we know the importance of protecting the vulnerable and respecting people who call on God in their various tongues."

"We must always keep in mind that the Muslim community and the black community are not different communities.
We are profoundly integrated in many ways, in our overlapping identities and in our relationship to this great and complicated country."

Three of the church burnings have been ruled arsons and the others are still under investigation. "They're being investigated to determine who is responsible and what motives are behind them," FBI spokesman Paul Bresson told BuzzFeed News.

I'm torn, but f*ck that!

I wish the Muslims ain't do SH!T!

Look, I completely understand how vicious this psychological and mental brainwashing is, but christianity needs to be exposed!

THIS help would NEVER be returned by the black church if this was happening in the Muslim community and as a person who grew up HEAVILY in the southern, baptist, christian church, I need to say that so it's crystal clear.

I NEVER felt that way personally, but that is what is indirectly taught, simpley due to the nature of group think of the plan for salvation under the christian seal.

Fam, it's a WAR out there and it's been one, but this sh!t 'bout to ramp up real fast.

Television is to civil rights as social media is to present day. Truth gon' come out one way or the other.

They talkin about it will come down and be put away with dignity :hmm:
Nothing dignified about a banner of hatred.

White people love patting themselves on the back while painting even their most despicable acts in the most heroic light possible.

Who gives a fuck if they take down the flag if folk can still fly it?

Why not outlaw the flag altogether?

Just heard on the radio, that at 10:11 July, 10th (TODAY), sh!ts down...ain't even speakin' the name 'cause the sh!t is decades too late, in my opinion.

Should have never taken the murder/assassination of a state's "son" to even have to think about if it should come down or not.

The C.O.W.S. w/ Friendship 9: Melvin Poole

Melvin Poole visits The Context of White Supremacy. Mr. Poole is a sixty-five year old black male and a South Carolina resident. He's the former president of the Rock Hill, South Carolina chapter of the NAACP. The New York Times published a robust account of South Carolina's Friendship 9. This group of black people were a part of a local and national sit-in protests of the 1960's. Nine black males were convicted of trespassing and ordered to serve 30 days labor in a county prison (slave) labor camp. Some of the Victims allege these convictions caused them lifelong difficulties and are overdue for being vacated. Whites coordinated an unctuous ceremony to acknowledge one of their acts of terrorism, and this event is a part of a broader White effort "to bestow hometown-hero status on civil rights protesters who were once shunned, jailed or beaten [or killed]." Mr. Poole concluded that Whites are using this occasion to conceal ongoing, 21st century operations of Racism. We'll get his thoughts on George Stinney as well South Carolina pillars of education: The Citadel and Clemson.

The C.O.W.S. w/ Manning Kimmel: South Carolina Racism

Manning Kimmel visits The Context of White Supremacy. Mr. Kimmel is a Co-Owner and Managing Partner of Our Three Sons Broadcasting in South Carolina. He hosts Straight Talk, a 30-minute public affairs and issues program. In 2014, In 2014, Kimmel was given the South Carolina Broadcasters Association "Masters Award." Earlier this February, Mr. Melvin Poole visited our broadcast to investigate the cases of the Friendship 9, George Stinney and White Supremacy in South Carolina. During our exchange, Mr. Poole reflected on his conversations with Mr. Kimmel and shared the view that, "he tries not to be Racist." We'll get Kimmel's thoughts on Rev. Al Sharpton, the White Terrorist assault on South Pointe High School and if he would be willing to have Gus on his network for Black History Month.

The C.O.W.S. w/ Dr. Marva Robinson: Black Mental Health

Mr. Poole is interviewed after the first hour.

Dr. Marva Robinson returns to The Context of White Supremacy. She's the president of the St. Louis Association of Black Psychologists and has been counseling black Ferguson residents since the police killing of Michael Brown Jr. When she visited us in December, she explained that an important aspect of the healing involved confronting the reality of Racism/White Power. We look forward to hearing an update on the mental health of black St. Louis residents. We're curious to see how the lack of indictments and subsequent shootings of Black people have impacted the Ferguson area. Some of our listeners began administering healing circles after Dr. Robinson's previous visit. Perhaps they can give us a word as well. We'll also hear from former South Carolina NAACP president Melvin Poole. We'll discuss the Charleston, SC shooting and coordinated White response.

NAACP convention in philly removes economic ban on South Carolina . The ncaa will now hold championship games in the state.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, October 28, 2021
Justice Department Announces Multi-Million Dollar Civil Settlement in Principle in Mother Emanuel Charleston Church Mass Shooting

Department Agrees to Settle Allegations Surrounding FBI Actions

Today, the Department of Justice announced that it has reached an agreement in principle to settle the civil cases arising out of the June 2015 Mother Emanuel AME Church mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.
These settlements will resolve claims by 14 plaintiffs arising out of the shooting. Plaintiffs agreed to settle claims alleging that the FBI was negligent when it failed to prohibit the sale of a gun by a licensed firearms dealer to the shooter, a self-proclaimed white supremacist, who wanted to start a “race war” and specifically targeted the 200-year-old historically African-American congregation. For those killed in the shooting, the settlements range from $6 million to $7.5 million per claimant. For the survivors, the settlements are for $5 million per claimant.
The parties have been in litigation since 2016, including before the district court and the federal court of appeals.
“The mass shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church was a horrific hate crime that caused immeasurable suffering for the families of the victims and the survivors,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “Since the day of the shooting, the Justice Department has sought to bring justice to the community, first by a successful hate crime prosecution and today by settling civil claims.”
“The nation grieved following the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel, and no one was more profoundly affected than the families of the victims and the survivors we have reached a settlement with today,” said Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta. “The department hopes that these settlements, combined with its prosecution of the shooter will bring some modicum of justice to the victims of this heinous act of hate.”
“The department is pleased to bring closure to this long-running litigation,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “These settlement agreements represent another chapter in the justice system’s efforts to address this horrific event, following the government’s prosecution and conviction of the shooter for federal hate crimes.”
On June 17, 2015, Mother Emanuel congregants welcomed a stranger who had entered their church. They invited him to participate in their Wednesday night bible study. Tragically, at the close of the bible study, the young man they had welcomed killed nine people, including Mother Emanuel’s pastor, Reverend Clementa Pinckney, also a South Carolina State Senator.
The families of the Emanuel Nine, as well as the five survivors who were inside the church at the time of the shooting, sued the government. They sought to recover for wrongful death and physical injuries arising from the shooting. Plaintiffs asserted that the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS) failed to timely discover that the shooter was a person prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm. Plaintiffs alleged that because of this delay, the shooter was able to purchase the handgun that he used to commit the atrocity.
The FBI and NICS play a crucial role in combatting gun violence. Since this tragic shooting, the FBI has worked to strengthen and improve the background check process. The department and FBI are also actively working to combat gun violence, which is a significant aspect of the department’s comprehensive violent crime reduction strategy. After the shooting, the department prosecuted the shooter for federal hate crimes and obtained a conviction.
Under applicable law, the court must approve the settlements for many of the plaintiffs. All parties expect that the court will agree that these settlements are fair and reasonable. This case was handled by the Justice Department’s Civil Division.
