MS: If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?

I do need the wireless

I do need the xbox live

I do need an xtra controller

and if you read teh price war i listed i did remove the hd dvd and teh xtra controller to compare the prices

its the same price

so while yall may not want wireless etc

for me to have the set up i want

yes the price is the same

for me

so price is not an option

games are which is why i chose the 360

If that price list applies to yourself then you should have stated that when you listed it. But that does not apply to everyone. There are plenty of people who buy an Xbox who do not use wireless, or play and charge kits or any of that other shit. You are being misleading by adding that stuff in and acting like everyone is forced into that extra cost. You are not representative of every gamer.

By your logic the Wii's potential cost is thousands of dollars, considering the amount of batteries you will have to buy over its lifespan for the wii-mote. Luckily, I dont play mine too much.

I'm supporting Microsoft this gen but they truly need to fix these systems people on xbox.com/forums saying there Halo 3 X-Box has the red rings. :smh:

You cant make a new version and keep it fucked up

My cousin had his since July 06 and it hasn't broken always sounds like plane over the house though.
My copy of Halo 3 and a number of other people in my area had scratched discs right outta the box. :smh:

Yes not everyone needs it

true

out of my friends that have the 360 5 out of 6 are running wireless for similar reasons to mine..

to me thats a no brainer, i've been running wireless for a few years on every computer at home and will continue to do so on my consoles

the wii comes with wireless built in for god sake, the wii

again.. if i didnt have the wireless, then what? get another hub for my printer, computer, 360 and wii?

now if your like my one friends in a studio apartment or there is only one connection and thats where the 360 is

sure no wifi, unless you run cable up and down your place..

MS: If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?

Microsoft's Shane Kim has implied that by the end of this financial year is when Xbox will finally turn a profit. Kim was quizzed by the BBC regarding the profitibality of its Xbox 360 adventure and Kim suggested that MS hopes to make a profit this financial year by posing the question of "If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?"

"Halo 3 has become a pop-culture phenomenon," said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, in a statement.

Microsoft needs Halo 3 to boost sales of the Xbox 360; despite investing billions of dollars into the Xbox project it has yet to see any meaningful profitable return.

"It's far too early to say what the financial return will be for our investment," Mr Kim told the BBC News website last month.

Halo 3 sales top £84m in 24 hours

Halo 3 figure at UK launch, PA
Halo 3 hits US stores

Halo 3 sales compared to other entertainment sectors
Video game Halo 3 earned more than £84m ($170m) in sales in its first 24 hours on release, according to Microsoft.

The game sets the record for the most money earned in a day by an entertainment product, topping figures set by film Spiderman 3.

Thousands of shops opened at midnight on Monday in the United States as gamers queued for the Xbox 360 title.

But reports of scratched discs have marred the launch, with Microsoft offering to replace them for free.

Sales figures from European launches have yet to be added into the total.

More than 1.4 million people have gone online to play the title since its launch and more than four million online games of Halo 3 were logged in the last 24 hours.

"Halo 3 has become a pop-culture phenomenon," said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, in a statement.

Microsoft has started a disc replacement service for gamers complaining of scratched copies of a limited edition version of the game.

But gamers have complained it will take two weeks for replacement copies to arrive.

If you dont like the article and what it suggests, which is actually good news for MS, write a letter to BBC news and write a letter to Bill Gates telling him your dissatisfied with the way Shane Kim represents your favorite company Microsoft

maybe you all can get a job with MS writing its press releases of nothing but good news

exactly, this guy has some nerve. The way he cries and complains whenever someone bash the xbox 360 you would think they he actually stood to make a profit from the 360. He made a post about how much money Halo3 made in its first day now he dont care about how much money MS makes.

Thats not true.

My room is 60 ft from my cable connection, and I still use a cord.

not me

i like neat and clean

no wires anywhere but behind the equipment itself

imacs, only thing hanging out is the power cord, keyboards plugged into monitor and mouse plugged into keyboard

the wii, powercord and video cable (i have a shared component cable that supports the 360 and the wii) and my sensor bar is wireless, wifi

360, power cord, shared video cable, wifi

They just don't know. Once you go wireless you'll never go back. My mouse and keyboard are wireless too.

yep

i would make my mouse wireless but i cant find a good roller ball wireless mouse

not to mention that i will strongly stand by the 360's wireless capabilities, its signal is always strong and never drops, my computer may lag at times but my 360 seems to hold on strong in the wireless department

by the way here is why its now finally a profit, they have to many problems with hardware

Surprise, surprise - Halo 3 Limited Edition 65nm box can get RRoD

Here we have the first ever reports of the Halo Limited Edition Xbox 360 suffering from the dreaded Red Ring of Death. What makes this 'special' is that these systems are supposed to come with the new 65nm CPU / GPU chipset which should in theory help reduce the RRoD problem the Xbox 360 experiences.

Gamers flock to Halo 3 online, 1.5m unique players in last 24 hours

According to the latest Bungie Halo 3 online stats, nearly 1.5 million unique players have been playing Halo 3 online with over 360,000 currently online at the time of writing. As you'd expect, online stats for Halo 2 have taken a mighty tumble with under 13,000 players online right now.

Rumor: Halo 4 already in development, Halo The Movie Game?

A website is claiming that Bungie has told attendees to a secret Microsoft event this month that they were indeed at work on a new sequel in the Halo franchise. Bungie reportedly did not elaborate any further (IF they did say what is rumored) although it is speculated that this could be an add-on pack or something like Halo - The Movie Game to be launched alongside the Official Halo movie.

quote:

Speaking with Bungie at an exclusive Microsoft event this month we were informed that there was no rest for the wicked for the team as they were already beavering away at the next Halo game in the franchise. When questioned whether the game would be a prequel, Bungie remained tight lipped as always but we have a hunch that the game might actually be Halo - The Movie Game (insert movie title prefix here). Either way, it's early days considering many are still tackling the single player of Halo 3. With huge sales across the globe for the series, there's no doubt that gamers are in store for more fighting whatever the guise may be.

BBC: Halo 3 is central to Microsoft's strategy

The BBC has put up an article which discusses how crucial Halo 3 is to Microsoft's strategy for the Xbox 360. A specialist consultant has put forward the view that Halo 3 is much more than just a hugely profitable game, it will be the 'standard bearer' not only for what the Xbox can do but also have an impact om Microsoft's global profile. Another editor believes that MS has huge hopes for Halo 3 in that people will buy more than just a game and purchase a Gold subscription and downloadable content. The BBC also raises the question of how important third party developers are and whether strong interdependence will contine to which the earlier quoted consultant suggests the depdendence will continue as MS nor Sony can make enough games on their own to satisfy diverse consumer backgrounds.

quote:

Industry analysts see the Halo 3 phenomenon as key to understanding Microsoft's direction to dominate an increasingly uncharted, but potentially profitable, market.

Sony and Microsoft simply can't make enough games to satisfy their customers

Game industry consultant Margaret Robertson

"Halo 3 will much more than a massively profitable game for Microsoft," says game industry consultant Margaret Robertson.

"It's going to be the standard bearer not only for the Xbox and all it can do, but also for Microsoft's profile worldwide."

Neil Long, editor of the games industry magazine MCV, agrees.

"Microsoft are hoping that not only will people buy the game, but will pay £40 or so to subscribe to Xbox live, plus all the other services Microsoft will offer, such as downloading movies," he says.

Just as Microsoft bought up Bungie, so Sony recently bought Evolution, a small British games studio which had already developed a game - Motorstorm - for the PS3. However, some independent game-designers - such as Electronic Arts, maker of the popular EA Sports range - are simply too big to absorb.

Ms Robertson sees no reason why this industry mix will not continue.

"The future doesn't belong solely to the console manufacturers," she says.

"Sony and Microsoft simply can't make enough games to satisfy their customers.

"Interdependence will continue."

They just don't know. Once you go wireless you'll never go back. My mouse and keyboard are wireless too.

i have a dead spot for wifi in my basement where the TV is my reception is 100% two freaking feet away but next to the tv its barely 20% i tried all kinds of shit until i said fuck it and bought a 50 foot Ethernet cord for 10 bucks and laid that shit along the wall to the tv.

Wifi is great but not for gaming hell my wifi flickers streaming movies to my laptop i hate to see some kinda buffering going on during a game

Honestly i would say wifi is a case by case basis it isn't the end all be all for everybody.

everythign isnt for everyone, there are variables

but at home my 360 wireless is strong as hell, even when my mac starts to slow down or even drop a bar my 360 has yet to lag so i'm cool gaming wise, even when i download from 15 or more rapidshare links at once i see no lag on my online play with my 360 via wireless

» Did Halo 3 Day 1 Sales Total 2.34 Million Units?

While Microsoft still hasn't said how many specfic copies it has sold for its Xbox 360 shooter Halo 3, Biz.Gamedaily.com has done their own math and using Microsoft's $170 million Day 1 sales number for the game calculated that Halo 3 sold 2.34 million copies on the first day of sales last week. That includes the 1.7 million pre-ordered plus an additional 640,000 copies in actual first day sales. If the web site's numbers are correct that means Halo 3 actually sold a little less that Halo 2's numbers of 2.4 million copies in the first 24 hours (but had higher dollar numbers due to the higher prices of all of Halo 3's versions).

what router are you using? i got a linksys WRT54G my signal is strong the whole house except my basement

what router are you using? i got a linksys WRT54G my signal is strong the whole house except my basement

apple base station

everything is on G

i have stronger signal settings with shorter range settings, closed network with unique network name and password

at home online at most times running its, 2 imacs, sometimes a macbook when my brother comes over, rarely the extra pc in the living room, the wii and 360, while the wii being the least part of the equation since there arent much games online out, i mainly keep it online for the updates, browsing their virtual console games and just cause i can

if your having problems with that dead spot you may want to look into a router extender something to extend the range of your network

if i got a second apple base station i could set one to be the main and the next one will receive and carry the signal to the rest of the distance needed.. so you could probably place a repeater somewhere near the stairs leading to the basement for that added range. if its a range issue, or to get around walls/metal that block signals

Maybe its just me, But I will never use a wifi connection to play any FPS online.

Maybe its just me, But I will never use a wifi connection to play any FPS online.

most strong comments like that come from hard core pc users

and i would saw for obvious and legit reasons

but definately give it a try

most connections now a days are pretty solid with good equipment and minimal interferrence

also lots of times, lag was caused by other players online being slow and slowing you down, most people are about equal across the board when it comes to speed and hardware, especially in the console world

again i've had no issues on my 360 on any game online, when i've reset my network i'll go into the 360 settings and always notice that i'm at full bars never dipping.. maybe i'm lucky, but thats one device that microsoft got right

Honestly i would say wifi is a case by case basis it isn't the end all be all for everybody.

Yeah I know people who say they can't use wifi in certain places in their house. I have no problem getting it anywhere in my little spot. I can pick up my signal on my cell phone as I pull into my apartments. I've been playing Warhawk online a lot and haven't had any problems. I got a linksys but I don't know the model.

Xbox 360 sells 100k units in USA during pre Halo week

Whoever said Halo 3 was not a system seller? Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime that's who. According to VG Chartz, The Xbox 360 sold 100,000 units in America in one single week fending off the Wii's 90,000 weekly sales and the PS3's 30,000 unit sales. With the launch of Halo 3, it is expected that the Xbox 360's weekly sales figures could even double to as much as 200,000 units!

Halo 3 makes $300 million in one week
halo3moneyineyez.jpg

And now, a scene from Microsoft HQ:

Bill Gates: Listen, those Bungie guys are OK, and it's great having them on the softball team and all. But I think it's time we set them free.

Shane Kim: Yes, of course sir.

Bill: Let's let them get out there in the world, you know? Make that Pimps at Sea game they're always talking about. After all, Halo 3 only brought us in $170 million, that's like 10,000 Segways, that's nothing.

Shane: Actually sir, our most recent report is that the game made $300 million in its first week.

Bill: ... How late is Shackles, Chains and Beyond open?
