Tetris Producer Promises ‘Big’ Science-Fiction Trilogy That’s ‘Not What You Think,’
Producer Larry Kasanoff, not confident that the very suggestion of a Tetris trilogy has sufficiently knocked your socks off, would like you to know that the Tetris movies are going to be BIG. As in, these Tetris movies are going to levels you've never reached before — past level 19, past level 21, beyond. As Kasanoff told Empire, the very reason theTetris movie got turned into a trilogy is because the central idea was building too high too fast, "purely because the story we conceived is so big." He explains: "This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story." Kasanoff refused to get too detailed about that big story, but he did reveal the trilogy's genre: science-fiction. Per Kasanoff: "We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science-fiction movie." And big isn't just an indicator of physical scope; we're talking big-time philosophy, too. Kasanoff explained that he got the idea for the movies, "as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos."
Now if you're the kind of cocky individual who hears "big science-fiction movie" and thinks you've got it all figured out, not so, says Kasanoff. "I guarantee you it’s not what you think ... No-one has come remotely close to figuring out what we’re doing." And that's especially true if you were fool enough to suspect Tetris the movie might have something to do with falling shapes and architectural dexterity. "We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie ... but it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!" Yeah, things are looking good on that front, man. We really don't think unreasonably high expectations are going to be your problem here.
