Movies: Suicide Squad Is on Track to Break Summer Box-Office Records, But There’s a BIG Catch

they're going to put 2 or 3 story lines in a two hour film like they did BvS
This is what i hated about BvS.
Doomsday v. Superman could have had their OWN movie.
How do you have a movie about BvS and then add
Wonder Woman,
Doomsday,
Lex Luther and
introduce every character from the Justice League?
They didn't even give us a chance to digest the battle against BvS
SMH
It was just too many story lines.
I left the theater happy that I saw the movie,
but was upset at what i saw
lol
The movie is titled
BvS
but wonder woman is in the middle of the poster LOL

winter soldier was the best marvel film cause it was like a spy movie with people with special powers..it dosen't fit the format of any other marvel flick..it also had the best bad guy in a marvel flick.. like i said b4 dc had the best badguys with joker and zod/crew..marvel had more better films overall..the ironman series was trash..2 and 3 shitfest 1 was juss ok.. winter soldier is what made me even care about any marvel flick

I'm with you. That's the first one I actually enjoyed was Winter Soldier. I thought most of the films were either ok or just as bad as DC shit to me.

DC fans don't like DC movies either
Yeah I was gonna say DC makes movies for the casual viewer and not comic reader. I do agree that Marvel does make the casual viewer a fan. My girl loves them movies and never even picked up a comic.

L
I agree completely; I was comparing the numbers that GOG did compared to SS; SS sets august record and still wont do as much as GOG; DC should feel real stupid about it; but it probably want; their movies are trash and not that good, no matters the numbers; I see their other movies falling also...

DC just happy they have a hit and when a movie is universally panned and does 400 million in two weeks? They better be happy and learn from their mistakes and move on. But they are gonna panic and fuck some shit up to appease some fanboys that won't ever like that shit anyway because they are simply fanboys.

It's not a hit though.. according to the article above its gotta do 800 mill to break even, "Hollywood math"...it's not doing that..and guardians did 330 mill domestically...suicide won't do that and it broke all these opening august records:smh::smh:that's not a hit.......

Hold on....you telling me a film that has been KILLED by critics makes $465.4 million in 2 weeks and that ain't no hit?

That is a hit. If they gotta make 800 million to break even? That's on DC Films. They played themselves. They should've never had no 800 million dollar budget to begin with. Films don't just gross 800 mill lol. That's a select group. Probably 3 or 4 movies MAY do that in a year. The film cost 175 million on production costs. They spent 600 million on marketing? Where the other 600 million go? They said the reshoots cost 12 million.

Suicide Squad Box Office: Massive Record Breaking Opening Sees Alarming 41% Drop On Saturday

Suicide Squad might be a mess of a film, bashed by critics and fans alike, but that hasn’t stopped moviegoers from buying tickets opening weekend.David Ayer‘s comic book adaptation had a huge opening weekend, earning a massive $135 million domestically, shattering the previous August US box office record (Guardians of the Galaxy has held the crown for two years with its $94.3 million opening in 2014). The film has also grossed over $267 million worldwide, but it will need three times that to break even. If the movie’s Saturday numbers are any indication, the bad word-of-mouth buzz for this film will only result in dramatic diminishing returns in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at the Suicide Squad box office, after the jump.

Suicide Squad Box Office Analysis
It is projected that Suicide Squad has to make at least $750 million globally (probably closer to $800 million) for the studio to break even, never mind make a profit. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had a similar reception critically, only made a two times multiplier of its opening weekend. If Suicide Squad performed similarly, it would end up somewhere around the $650 million mark.

The film has yet to open in 9 international markets (Egypt, Denmark, Pakistan, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Austria, Greece, and Japan). More importantly, the film will likely not see a release in China — this could have meant another $100-150 million for the film’s global box office (even if Hollywood studios only get back about 20%-25% of the money earned in the country).

Suicide Squad made a huge $65.1 million at the Friday box office, but most industry analysts took note that the film had a huge drop from Friday to Saturday. Box Office revenue dramatically declined 41 percent from Friday to Saturday. This decrease is worse than Batman V Superman‘s drop which fell only 37.9 percent from its large Friday opening. To give even better perspective, the previous August record holder Guardians of the Galaxy saw only an 18 percent drop from Friday to Saturday. It is believed that the film’s poor word-of-mouth is to blame for the drop in attendance.

So the question is: how will Suicide Squad do in the coming weeks.Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which had a similar reception, lost almost 70% of its audience in its second weekend.

One thing can’t be denied: the marketing for Suicide Squad was amazing. Warner Bros’ marketing department should win awards for the marketing campaign for this film, and it certainly got people interested, but unfortunately a lot of moviegoers seem to be finding that the fun film they’re selling isn’t the dark and violent film which is in theaters. No wonder the film is trending down thanks to the resulting negative buzz in both reviews and online social media.

It’s also worth noting that Suicide Squad broke August IMAX records, earning $18.2 million on 636 IMAX screens globally, also surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy , which opened with $15.9 million worldwide in IMAX screens. The film will have a two week run in IMAX theaters before its replaced by Ben-Hur on August 19th 2016.

Here are the numbers for the top ten box office releases for the weekend:

1. “Suicide Squad” — $135 million
2. “Jason Bourne” — $22.7 million ($103.4 mil.)
3. “Bad Moms” — $14.2 million ($51 mil.)
4. “The Secret Life Of Pets” — $11.5 million ($319.5 mil.)
5. “Star Trek Beyond” — $10.2 million ($127.9 mil.)
6. “Nine Lives” — $6.5 million
7. “Lights Out” — $6 million ($54.7 mil.)
8. “Nerve” — $4.9 million ($26.8 mil.)
9. “Ghostbusters” — $4.8 million ($116.7 mil.)
10. “Ice Age: Collision Course” — $4.3 million ($53.5 mil.)

this guy gets it. They rolled like 4 story lines in blunt. The death a superman story IS a movie alone and aint had shit to do with batman and WW. It could of been in the ACTUAL man of steel sequel. The Bats/ clark fight was underwhelming. As somebody said earlier, DC is pushing CHARACTERS, this is only the "second" film in their universe and it felt so unnatural to be introduced to the entire JL via an email multimedia attachment

Peace,

There is a disconnect between critics and audiences. Audiences are like religious zealots or voters, judging a movie based on faith and belief as opposed to merit.

People liked BvS because they REALLY wanted to like it, not because it was well made or executed.

i think ur right. the movie wasnt HORRIBLE. its wasnt no dark knight either. not even close. it entertained me tho. ALOT more than BvS. i think the critics made this one out to be worse than what it was. thats only because it had ALOT of hype to live up to after the "failure" of BvS.

That article says nothing lol. You say its not a hit because it won't make 800 million. I'm saying if you make 450 million in 2 weeks....that's a hit....the studio will take the loss. NO one should've spent 800 million on this movie to be made or any movie for that matter.

Now if it need 750-800 mill to break even, not make a profit, then that's not a hit...plus it drop 67%its 2nd week...film will do like 650 worldwide...

What makes it a hit? Critics killed it...overwhelming majority of moviegoers said it was ok at best..it barely going to break even..so why is it a hit?

I'm saying its a hit because its made 465 million in 2 weeks. As of now its a hit. Critics and analysts think it won't have much lasting power because of word of mouth. Fair enough.

Analysts are also GUESSING and PROJECTING on how much the film cost. Its gonna go down as one of the top grossing films of the year. Its a bunch of not known characters headlining this flick. DC played themselves if the budget is truly 800 million. But there's no proof that it really is 800. Hell it could be MORE for all we know or less.

Yeah... I feel like someone at DC is looking at Marvel and their character development(s)
and just want to do the same thing!
But DC shouldn't have to...
they should be staying in their lane.

Suicide Squad, a bad movie, made quite a bit of money—meaning that regardless of how little most people cared for it, Warner Bros. never doubted the possibility of making a sequel. According to a new report from Deadline, though, the studio continues to have trouble finding a director.

Jaume Collet-Serra, the most recent name to be floated as a frontrunner for Suicide Squad 2, has signed onto Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, meaning that he’s unavailable for the Warner Bros. project.

The studio has seemingly struggled to find a suitable director to wrangle this addition to the DCEU, after reportedly considering Mel Gibson, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, and Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine. Warner Bros. has yet to announce an official release date for Suicide Squad 2, but one imagines it will want to nail down a director before we hear any news about that.

Why Wasn’t Pete Davidson on SNL This Week?

A whole episode of Saturday Night Live aired this weekend, and it did not feature Pete Davidson oversharing about his newfound romance with showbiz royalty Margaret Qualley or breaking into the middle of a sketch because Kenan Thompson was there. The season premiere of SNL featured Larry David and Maya Rudolph, but current cast member Pete Davidson was nowhere to be found. The show’s young gun (not to be confused with Machine Gun Kelly, Pete’s BFF) was actually off pursuing another dream of his. He was filming the new Suicide Squad movie with director James Gunn and co-stars Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, Joel Kinnaman, Flula Borg, and Nathan Fillion. And we know this thanks to Gunn’s social-media presence.

On Saturday, the squad (plus Pom Klementieff from Guardians of the Galaxy) saw a screening of Joker in Atlanta. Pete’s role in the new film still remains a mystery, so there is no telling when the prodigal son will return to 30 Rock. But are we that desperate to spend a portion of “Weekend Update” hearing how Andie MacDowell feels about her daughter dating Davidson? We can do that right now. “She has a beautiful relationship with him but I don’t want to step on her relationship too much,” Andie MacDowell told People at Paris Fashion Week. “They have a nice relationship.” That’s Pete Davidson, everyone! From “Weekend Update,” I’m Colin Jost! He’s Michael Che! Good night!
