It's a different take on the zombie genre. I like the concept of different cultures and backgrounds coming together. Imagine getting trapped with people who bring different skills to the table. I liked it!

Agreed. I think people also appreciated it wasn't soap opera'ish like the Walking Dead has become after 8 - 9 seasons with too many storylines, characters, etc. Less episodes ... shorter running time ... more action ... various cultures & backgrounds as you noted ... good stuff. We're trying to get my brother to watch the series. He lives close to Calgary (wherein they filmed). He still visits there occasionally ... some friends & an ex are there, etc. We're also trying to get him into the Fargo series on FX (also films in Calgary).

SHAFT

SHAFT has morphed into a buddy cop....estranged father and son action comedy?

PRAISE: Samuel L. Jackson and Regina Hall, fortunately overcome the lameness of the films script several times.Director Tim Story wisely gives them a multitude of moments to shine.
I did laugh out loud at some of the antics, jokes and oneliners more than i thought i would.I give the movie points for having the balls to not be politically correct especially in todays climate.

PROBLEMS :Jesse T. Usher as Shaft Jr.,is as lame as advertised. The character and the actor feel like they belong in one of those awkward and silly cop but still comes out on top movies.
His boss has no confidence in him and his father hits him with an avalanche of put downs.Only his mother Maya Babanikos (Regina Hall) and Dr. Sasha (Alexandra Shipp)root for him.
The moments of fun are all to brief as this slowly but surely becomes something generic. If you cant figure out who the villains will be after they first appear on screen ,you may need a visit to an ophthalmologist.

Regina Hall ...call me

Going to see John Wick 3 tomorrow. I'll get that review in within the next week. Taking pops and his gf to the movie & out for dinner afterward for Father's Day.

Enjoyed the movie. Surprisingly the theater was about 80% full for a Sunday 4:20pm showing a full month after it had been released. Good to have the crowd reaction during the action/fight scenes. Enjoyed John Wick 3 more than the 2nd one. The fight scenes were great. Brutal usage of knives during that one scene. The library scene was pretty wild. Enjoyed the motorcycle scene - reminded me of something out of The Raid. This guy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Dacascos - was great in his role. Always enjoy this guy's work - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yayan_Ruhian . Nice to see a more substantial role for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Reddick this time around. He's always good on camera. Has a good presence. Enjoyed Halle Berry's involvement more than I had expected. Her attack dogs were excellent. They helped amp up the chaos during those sequences.

The debt collector Netflix

:thumbsup:This was a good movie.

Security Netflix

:thumbsup:Former Aftermath artist Truth Hurts AKA Shari Watson. Made a small cameo appearance in this movie. She looked a little like Kerry Washington, to me at least in this. Anyways this is another solid movie starring Antonio Banderas.

Movie was good

Wasn't advertised, because the director got me tooed

There's a big discrepancy between the critics reviews and fan reviews. Probably due to the me too allegations.

Fans like it.

It's nothing new, but the way it was done was a testament to the director and writing. It wasn't confusing.

The Marlon Wayans show Netflix

I can see why this show was cancelled. To me there wasnt one solid episode. I chuckled here and there. But that's about it. I hated when marlon, would over explain the joke or situation. It's like I get it move on. I pretty much watched the show for Essense Atkins and Bresha Webb.

Spider-Man: Far from Home

With Nick Fury in his ear and an introduction to Mysterio who needs his help to battle elemental beings will Spidey be able to enjoy his euro trip and establish a relationship with MJ?

PRAISE: Peter Parker (and the rest of the world) (Tom Holland) still dealing with the shockwaves of Avengers Endgame and all that comes with being a super hero Holland does a great job of displaying all of the aforementioned. He is more comfortable in the role.
The relationship between him and
MJ (Zendaya) has ultra awkward ,wonderful charm. There is a longing for a normal life or some kind of balance from Peter that blurs his reasoning and that is captured perfectly.
There are nice familial and advisory moments from Aunt May(Marisa Tomei is she getting younger or what?)
and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau)
As the mysterious Mysterio Jake Gyllenhaal has this almost laid back ,trance like approach to the character that develops into something great.

The action sequences and SFX are 90% on point.
There is one sequence that was absolute perfection ,that made me recall old Spider Man stories from the comics and various animated Spider Man TV shows.I give the writers and Director Jon Watts high praise for that and giving the movie a good balance of humor and drama.

PROBLEMS: If you are a fan of the Spidey comics like me you will likely be waiting for the other shoe to drop with certain story threads. This kind of diluted a portion of the movie a bit for me.
Some of the acting was stiff at first ,leading to some vacant moments, especially in one scene filled with over explanation that felt kind of campy.
Some of the slapstick euro trip and wannabe funny one liners became obnoxious at times.

I really liked the mid credits scene, much more than the end credits scene.

This was a very good Spider Man film,im actually hyped to see the next chapter.

:bravo:This was a great movie. I kind of wish, that the aftermath. Of certain things should have been explained. Either in passing or before the credits roll.

This movie was ok. Definitely a one and done for me. There was good fighting and explosions. But it still came off as bland.

Viking destiny Netflix

This movie was alright. This is another one and done for me.

A24 keeps doing it

I liked it better than Hereditary.

I'm not sure what I saw, but it was dope. They should have kept their mouth shut and just went along with everything.

Cinematography was excellent

Not a movie for everyone.

I liked it, I didn't love it. I thought it was going to be better. Pretty much everything with zombies has been done

It had dope aspects to it and had dark dry humor. It could have been tweaked some, because it had potential.

again definitely not a movie for everyone.

YESTERDAY

A world in which no one remembers The Beatles....say it aint so...

PRAISE:An interesting set up in which a struggling musician Jack Malik (Himesh Patel)is hit by a bus during a worldwide black out and awakens to a world in which one of the worlds greatest bands The Beatles never existed.

To watch the characters moral struggles and frustrations in which he wants the world to know the music of The Beatles but gains fame by singing and taking credit for writing their classic songs is only one of the films joys.
The second is the relationship Jack has with
his manager/best friend, Ellie (Lily James). They have such great chemistry i wanted them to have more screen time together.
Kate McKinnon was pretty funny as music manager Debra Hammer who is blatantly insulting to Jack.Praise to musician Ed Sheeran who allows himself to be humbled in the film.

Then of course you have the music,i couldnt help but tap my foot or hum along as the music of The Beatles blared through the theatre speakers
There is a beautiful moment in the final 20 minutes of the film that will hit the emotional chords of every Beatles fan.

PROBLEMS:The film fortunately is able to recover from some obnoxious moments and some repetitive stalls in the middle of the film, that were extremely noticeable.

In the end i feel i was given something that was original and took a chance, plus a great tribute to The Beatles music, influence and love for the art.

Midsommar

And another reason why i will NEVER attend a Maypole festival !!

PRAISE:

The story of an already off balance woman named Dani (Florence Pugh) who suffers an extremely tragic loss, tags along with her boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) and his friends Josh (William Jackson Harper), and Mark (Will Poulter), and foreign student Pelle (Wilhelm Blomgren)to a commune in Sweden much to the indifference and chagrin of the friends who feel she has become to clingy to Christian.

Things are pleasant and laid back at first but soon the hippie smoke cloud starts to fade away and the true nature and horror of the commune shines through.

Pugh is absolutely incredible as Dani i couldnt help but feel something for the character as she gives a performance filled with raw emotion, her cries and screams stirred my soul.
A lot of the actors display good humor, and tense portrayals, some perform with poker faces which i appreciated because it enhanced what was to come.
The film is visually stunning as Director Ari Aster chooses landscapes an longshots in a sometimes dizzying but memsmerizing way.
The violence and gore are extremely dwelling and not for the faint of heart.
Even if one manages to look away, the film says oh did you miss that gore?,well here it is again and again.
I cant recall being shocked, amused and horrified by a number of sequences in a film over and over again.

PROBLEMS:
I couldnt go along with the lack of common sense of some of the characters, and sure something happens to them that can eliminate my problem, but there is a window of oppurtunity the characters had that wasnt used in my opinion.
Some scenes are way over the top with violence and sex so much so i and the audience started to laugh...but maybe the Director and writers wanted that from the audience(?)

Im giving the film a high rating not only for everything i praised it about but because i went in knowing i would be shocked and longing to see something very different.

Thanks JBlaze.

Had a chance to check it out on the big screen Tuesday evening, and enjoyed it too. It was the right environment to see it as the theater was nearly packed, and people were feeling it. A whole variety of ages in there. Enjoyed how the film combined the dramatic, with the comedic & light-hearted, the love story, etc. The beautiful moment you noted in the final 20 mins or so ... agreed. The woman to the left of me was a big fan of The Beatles ... jamming along throughout the movie ... when that happened it appeared as though it took her breath away momentarily. She leaned forward, and was really quiet, and was wiping a tear or two away. That scene definitely hit its mark with her.

Also had a chance to finish off the HBO miniseries Chernobyl last night. Enjoyed that one as well, as have other BGOL fam'.

Deadwood HBO NOW

Deadwood The Movie HBO NOW

I finally finished watching Deadwood. Ive been watching the series, for the past two weeks. And I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Its a damn shame the show was cancelled back in 2006. I can see why people were pissed when season 3 ended. Shit was heating up in Deadwood, then the show gets cancelled. I also watched the movie right after the last episode. And the movie is fucking great. I would suggest watching the series first before watching the movie.
