How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Will Toothless the dragon find true love? Will
Hiccup be able to lead his people to The Hidden World and thwart off a new ...uhmmmm...sort of...villain?

PRAISE:
The HTTYD movies have always provided enough heart and humor to add a up to a very good movie experience, and in
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World they have not strayed from the aforementioned .
Wonderful voice work by the entire cast. The message of not selfishly seeking one's own interest above other's shines through.
Hat's off to the animators. They know they are showing off with their beautiful and immersive work and i loved being thrilled by it .

PROBLEMS:
The villain was lame.At first i though wow this character is going to bring it because there were signs that he would, but he basically reminded me of Adam Sandler's vampire character from Hotel Transylvania.Just obnoxious all the way through.
The side characters kind of got the short end of the stick with repetitive lines and jokes.I swear one character said the same thing 10 times.

I was very happy to see the story come full circle. It's a great end to a wonderful series but i do see how they can continue it in some way,and if theatres have sold out crowds like the one i was part of for the advance showing it definitely might happen.

I couldn't do Ship duty, let alone be a Submariner. :smh::hypnotised::scared::crymeariver:
Fuck dat!
ship duty wasn't too bad considering what department you were in and how well-staffed they were. If you're on port and starboard (2 divisions, 6 or 8 or 12 hours on and then 6 or 8 or 12 hours off, then life sucks for you on board a Navy ship.

I started out in deck department (Underway janitor service), and I eventually became a storekeeper (SK, supply/logistics). After my time in deck, being in supply was easy

I just finished polar. I can't Get enough revenge/payback movies or Hitman thrillers.

I'm off work until the day after my birthday on Wednesday. If y'all know anything good to watch, let me know

Agreed. Interesting to see where future Polar films take place or play out. Really looking forward to John Wick 3 in a number of months. Trying to get caught up on some movies in BGOL Cinema. Really enjoying True Detective. Wrapping up Bodyguard this week. Looking forward to The Walking Dead and Survivor. Gonna check out the Goliath, Black Monday and Sex Education series soon.

The Lego Movie 2 :The Second Part

Is everything still awesome in
The Lego Movie 2 :The Second Part?

PRAISE: Enthusiastic and great voice work from the entire cast. The rapid fire pace of jokes, visuals, nods to Hollywood and specific film franchises were fun.
The work by the animators is still amazing.

PROBLEMS:Extremely predictable paths in the film add up to make the movie feel like it's going in circles at times. You would have to be a newborn not to see whats coming especially when the characters put emphasis on certain phrases and words.
This time around things felt really drawn out and i even started to nod off in the middle.
There was an almost grating feel as the film wraps up.

There is enough here to be entertaining for the most part but the freshness of the idea has worn off.

The Prodigy was better than I thought it was going to be.

It could have been better, but I was entertained.

The twist at the end was kind of corny.

Also for a rated R movie they could have done more with it.

Alita: Battle Angel

Is the Alita: Battle Angel film the Manga adaptation fans of the genre have been waiting for ?

PRAISE: This is such a multi layered story, it should be confusing but it's not.I enjoyed each layer and story path for the most part because they made it so interesting.
Rosa Salazar as Alita, the titular cyborg heroine turns in one of the best motion capture performances i have ever seen !
Sure i thought the characters huge eyes would be a distraction but it actually added to her charm,i ended up being completely taking in by her.The action sequences are thrilling and then some.

Christoph Waltz as Dr. Dyson was also quite charming turning in a good performance as Alita's caretaker.
The CGI and 3D is nearly flawless and incredibly immersive.
I praise the writers for not taking some cliched routes.
The characters are so wonderfully detailed and designed it makes me want to go out and track down every model kit and action figure associated with this film.
Very cool cameos !!

PROBLEMS : The acting powers of the talented
Jennifer Connelly as Chiren and
Mahershala Ali and as Vector are only slightly tapped into.
There are some melodramatic moments that should have moved me but i actually smirked and cringed as they played out.
The story is here and there predictable.
There was a third act pay off that i was highly anticipating but it never reached the level i wanted.

If you venture out this week to see this movie go see it in 3D and on the biggest screen possible

I hope the film does well ,because i would love to see Alita and her world on the big screen again.

I agree with all that you said. I saw it in Dolby 3D, so glad for A-List cause i wouldn't of paid $12 for a movie. Surprisingly, with all the anime I have seen I never watched the series, so I had nothing no expectations. Graphics and scenery was reminiscent of Final Fantasy intros and cutscenes, brilliant and flawless. Yes there are plot issues but its all about the action and the action didn't fail. Some scenes were too fast but she is a bad ass.

Ali and Connelly were just there they could of pushed through with up and coming actors that way you are not expecting them to outshine the action. Each time they appeared I said oh yeah forgot all about them. Just letting you know just in case you thought you were getting Luke Cage Ali.

Watched 2 documentaries recently. Biggie: The Life of Notorious B.I.G. (DVR'd it on A&E), and They Shall Not Grow Old. Enjoyed both respectively. Felt as though the Biggie doc' did a good job showing his life & career, and impact on hiphop and loved ones around him. They Shall Not Grow Old was intense. Restoring old war footage in color ... really effective. When the doc' morphs from black & white to color ... and the off-camera narration throughout from several war vets. Damn, man. Definitely recommend both docs.

I liked it. I saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was actually worth it...well it's not like I paid for it since I'm A List.

but it's actually a 3D movie worth it.

The ending could have been better. It could have been a little less obvious it's a set up for a sequel. And the love story seemed like some teen movie stuff, but it was enjoyable.

I'm probably going to go see it again.

I hope it does better than expected, because I want to see another couple of them.

Watched Ken Jeong's Netflix special the other day. More storytelling about his transition from being a doctor to comedic acting ... his big break in The Hangover ... his wife overcoming breast cancer, etc. Some funny call-back jokes to 2 women near the stage with the surname Ho. Seeing as his own wife is named Tran Ho, and the special's called You Complete Me, Ho.

Have about 20 mins left in American Dream / American Knightmare. Been watching it in the background while doing paperwork.

ROMA

Is director Alfonso Cuarón's,semi-autobiographical tale really one of the best movies of 2018?...well....

PRAISE: I did feel something for the characters and i was fully invested in them. The film is beautifully shot and very entrancing at times .Yalitza Aparicio as Cleodegaria "Cleo" Gutiérrez does a fine job in her first role.

PROBLEMS:IMO this movie is OVERRATED !! Long lingering shots felt like filler to me.I was put off by the multiple long lingering shots of dog feces and urine. There is a historical occurence that happened that i wish the film would have spent more time on.It took 4 viewings for me to finally get through this movie.
Some people have told me i need to see this on the big screen but i know i would have fallen asleep in the theatre.

Greta, I liked it. It was cliche as hell, but the two lead actresses did a good job. The friend was also good, because it made up for how dumb the other girl was.

Happy Death Day 2 U...ehhhhh, it was too nerdy for me to be entertained by it. It was just corny at some parts. I liked the first one a lot better.

Saw this documentary a few weeks back. Had heard about it over the past few months leading into awards season, and the hosts of Pop Culture Happy Hour (podcast on NPR) said it would be airing on PBS, so I dvr'd it prior to the Academy Awards. Pretty good, and interesting how the documentarian ties the storylines together, and has the trust of his subjects (who are his friends). It was a bit short at an hour and a half ... 2 hours would have been effective in telling more story given the serious subject matter at times.

Have about 10 minutes left in this documentary. It's an easy one to get through at just over 1 hour in running time. The doc' explains the shootout, his drug addiction, etc. Interesting how he landed the breakout role in A Bronx Tale back in the day. Some good interview segments about 30 - 40 mins in with Drea de Matteo (The Sopranos) explaining how she recognized he had a problem (given her own drug addiction history). Also, Jayson Williams (formerly of the Nets) talking about how they ran in the same circle(s) on the eastcoast (the star player and "it" actor), and the night-day change in Lillo once the drugs kicked in. The paranoia, etc.

CAPTAIN MARVEL

Can Captain Marvel remember her past, ally herself with Nick Fury, and give the audience a great origin story?

PRAISE:
Brie Larson as Vers / Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel is not as dry and distant as she was in the trailers. She actually infuses life into the character here and there in the film.
Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos was quite amusing and turns in a good performance.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury was good and had good chemistry with Larson.

There are some good moments between Larson and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau and daughter Monica portrayed by Akira Akbar.
Some good mid 90's nostalgia throughout the film.
Goose the cat steals several scenes.
The SFX and action sequences were done well for the most part.
I liked that we get a further peek into the Marvel Cosmic Universe.

PROBLEMS: I felt like Jude Law and Annette Benning were sidelined for most of the movie. The movie is trying to do a lot of things. An origin story, explanation of the war between the Kree and the Skrulls, and a semi fish out of water story, which made the film drag in some spots.
I knew some SJW moments would be in the film because well look at how the film was marketed.I still felt like i was being hit over the head with it at times.
I was not on board for the changes to Marvel canon, and the twist that lead to some unintentional laughable scenes.
The film misses a few oppurtunities to be epic but it loses it's focus at times and some things are written off as a joke.I actually through my hands up and rolled at my eyes at how some things played out.
Kevin Feige wasnt lying when he said Captain Marvel would be the starting point of everything...GEEZ !!

I would say Captain Marvel is above Iron Man 3 and Thor The Dark World not great but OK.

Scale of 1-10 a 6½

SIDENOTE: I really dislike that some critics are adding to their reviews:To bad if you dont like to see women as the leads in films.
That's not a fact! People just want to see good to great movies they spend their hard earned money on!
