I know I'm going to get killed for this, but I think Trump was inarticulate in his phone call. I don't think it was his intention to be mean spirited. He just hasn't fully grasped the English language.
Where he fucked up is doubling down that he did a good job and making it about himself and his hate for Florida
Congresswoman Frederica Wilson. He could have apologized for the way he came across and restated his condolences and it would have been a win. Problem is Trump no apology policy keeps him fucked up.

That has nothing to do with inarticulate. Some people just can't hide their true colors. If he actually felt anything for that family he would think before he open his mouth.

I can't argue for Trump, I'll let you comments stand, but bro is he is inarticulate. He can't string together a sentence without saying "that what I was told", "many people have said", "other people will agree with me". Never any facts or specifics from this guy and that's how he communicates.
He couldn't call the soldier or his wife by name (Sgt. La David Johnson and Myeshia Johnson), because his memory is shot. Which only added fuel to he fire.

I thought Bush was the dumbest President in American History until Trump won, but I was speaking to the topic of the thread.

Everything about this whole incident was wrong starting with asking a career military man (who also lost a son to combat) what to say to a civilian wife and mother about the death of her husband. If he needed advice about how to handle a call like that he should have asked his wife or daughter, not Gen. Kelly. Furthermore, I don't recall the Pres. using the same words and tone with other Gold Star families that he talked to who lost loved ones...just the widow of La David Johnson. The doubling down afterwards just makes it crystal clear that he meant every word he said. Sorry but I can't make any excuses for the way he handled the situation.
