Some cities have been hit much harder than others during the recession. Cities in California, Florida and Michigan, for instance, have been particularly hard hit, while others have seen their economy grow.

In a recent Brookings Institution study, researchers gathered key economic statistics about the 100 largest US metro areas, including employment, home values and Gross Metropolitan Product (GMP). Among the surprising results — 38 metro areas recorded an increase in home values, even though the national average declined 6%.

So, what are America’s most recession-resistant cities? Click ahead to find out!

Surprisingly most are Southern cities, and no New York.....

most are from republican states too...

I guess thought won't come in here...

*edit* seems like every major TEXAS city too... I guess conservative don't work huh lol

This comes as no surprise to me (well maybe the midwest cities)...Ive talked to a couple of my buddies who are form texas and they were adamant about how the state of texas is good for business and living...low home prices (although high property taxes) and jobs are booming...

Im not shocked to see DC on that list at all...

People are still watching and quoting CNBC??!?!? :smh:

Everytime CNBC screws up bigtime, they manage to survive to screw-up even bigger the next time around.

DOT-COM bubble
ENRON/IMCLONE
Sub-prime/credit crisis
2007 STOCK MARKET
2008 BAILOUT
Jim Cramer
Maria Butt-a-ramo

Why do people still watch CNBC?

If CNBC is not the bankers'/Wall Street propaganda channel, then there is no propaganda on TV.

If CNBC says the future is in the South and Texas, I'd make it a point to move north.

Jackass. Those cities are Republikkkan, because there are "Liberal" blue collar cities around to allow those cities to build their cities around growth industries.

Without Detroit and other "Liberal" cities handling and then losing Manufacturing, then those cities wouldn't have the ability to build their cities around the other industries.

You can't have one without the other.

They're not successful, BECAUSE they are Republikkkan. They are Republikkkan BECAUSE they used the profits and workforce from the "Liberal" cities to BUILD these cities up.

Texas is a Red State. Last 2 governors Bush and Gov Perry are republicans. Last 3 elections in the state went to republican presidents.
