So I've got my products lined up thanks to Intelligent Dyme and MTL.

I currently have my hair in plaits with my glycerin/leave in conditioner mix.

But now I need help with what products to use, like a heat proctectant, when using a flat iron and what flat iron is the best. Everyone keeps talking about that Chi iron but it's over 100 bucks!

So if anyone straightens their natural hair with a flat iron let me now.

Naw. No Chi. It's all about the Andis flat iron. It's $15 at Walmart or $25 from their website:

I never use it hotter than the 10 setting. It's fabulous. http://www.andis-store.com/product_detail.asp?T1=AND+67095&NAV=ANDIRON

Do you know how hot it gets? And what are you doing as a heat protectant?

Do you blow your hair out first?

Someone was suggesting this site for a product to maintain the look for longer:

www.gofrizz.com

And also another product from Chi called Silk Therapy or something.

I want to get the knack of it myself instead of paying someone to flat iron my hair.

I use a pomade in my hair if I'm going to flat iron. Or any kind of pressing creme. That flat iron goes up to 20! The first time I used it I was at 15 and burned some of my hair off. But this is a ceramic iron and I didn't know not to use it at the same settings as my old metal iron. I have to blow dry my hair first  and I mainly use the flat iron only to get the roots straight. But I don't flat iron very much so I can keep the heat off

Oh well if it goes to 20 it might work.

My texture is very coarse but fine.

And it's cheaper than a CHI!

Thanks!
