Mob City
Based on the book L.A. Noir, this hard-boiled drama from writer-director Frank Darabont follows an elite police squad’s efforts to combat some of America’s most notorious mobsters in 1940s Los Angeles. “A Guy Walks Into a Bar…” kicks things off with guest-star Simon Pegg cluing Det. Joe Teague in on a blackmail plot. Then in “Reason to Kill a Man,” the cops press a witness who’s harboring a dangerous secret.

The fact that they sat on it for a while and they're now marketing it as a miniseries tells me that they already decided to cancel it before it premiered.

when it was first called LA Noir some ppl thought it was based off this

Premiere is 2 hours ... that's a lot of commercial breaks. I will watch the pilot but I might wait until the season is finished to binge.

I'm giving it a shot

Dudes act like some of the best shows aren't on network TV

Not watching this same story being told again about the same mobsters. This is why I watch Boardwalk Empire. No dice here. Sorry. :smh:

This show has a comic book feel too it. Feels like I'm watching Dick Tracy more so than some gangster shit. I'm off this boat.

This seems to be like a watered down version of the movie on cable Gangster Squad.

And to many commercials to close together.

You mean the movie?

But yeah, I'm so fuckin anti commercial with DVR and downloading. It's hard for me to watch any show with commercials.

I just downloaded for later

Got the series recording set for it. Gonna watch them in late-December.

For those BGOL fam' in Canada ... it airs on the BRAVO network.

Yea if its a show that's going to continue i'll grade it as such. But if this shit was meant to be a mini-series? What in the hell lol? The show for me failed to capture that era accurately. It did a good job capturing the whole "La Noire" genre of films that have been out there but watching shows like Boardwalk Empire? It just felt so cheesy and artificial.

Only caught bits and pieces of it. I like how Shane fucked up Bugsy at the end... I know he really took one through the eye, but I'm assuming they fictionalized the actual who/why part...

the LA/Mob thing is interesting to me, along with the corrupt Los Angeles cops... so I liked movies like LA Confidential and Devil in a Blue Dress a whole lot. This didn't grab my attention like they did.

how many times are they gone make mob shows/movies with the same characters

you can create a story from scratch with original characters and go all kinds of directions

Show is pretty good.. too much fucking commercial though.. have to record it .. then watch so I can fast forward.....I'm talking about what seems like 2 mins of show.. then 3-4 mins of commercial.. wtf never seen nothing like that ever

saw the first 2 hours and enjoyed it.
the female was the best part...she was really dialed into the femme fatale role of the noir genre.

i plan catching up on the rest but the holiday season has been crazy

Had the miniseries recorded on the DVR. We watched the first 2 eps of 3 over dinner and nachos. It was ok. They can't work with too much when it's rated TV-14.
