Can some of ya'll southern folks help me out. My boy is about to move to Greenwood,Mississippi from Atlanta, anybody who's been there or live there, can you tell me how it is out there:

whats the cost of living like

Is there a night life (clubs, etc)

What is the quality of women like (my boy like small waist, big ass, who don't)

If he's not moving into Birdland (where all the streets are named after birds) don't go! Aint but 2 good jobs (by their standards) there John Richard (we made lamps) and Viking Range only paid 7 dollars but ya gotta work 6-7 days, oh and the prison I got hired in but moved back to D. fuck that my cuz said them niccaz be slinging semen at you!!! Oh you gotta be related to somebody or from the Sip to get them jobs!

Mann homie i've been living in ms on and off for the last 7 years....if homie is not from ms he's in for a major culture shock especially coming from the atl...but MS cool to stay depending on what he coming here to do...if its to have a social life then he fukked...lol but its like this,

there's some nice clubs in ms but in major cities..in greenwood theres a bunch of whole in the wall clubs...If he looking 4 a broads theres plenty of fukking going on becuz theres nothing to do but u gotta watch them hoes becuz they be looking to get preg early..like 80% of the chicks over 21 got kids..if he coming for a job already setup or school then he straight.but if he coming to stay forever i don't know dawg.. as far as that race shyt i mean that shyt is the same everywhere...from the white people i know here there cool but like TG said good jobs are hard to come by even if u qualified unless u got connects....mainly if blacks doing the interview
 
Living in MS is like serving life in the pen without the possibility for parole. Or something like that.
Especially going from a good sized city… wow. I dunno how my pops does it.

Something thru me off about what u said about him recieving major culture shock. Isn't Mississippi like ATL in a way though, but only that each city has sort of it's own identity. Their both in the south:confused::confused:.

I'm from Toronto and everytime I visit the south whether it be the Carolinas, West virginia, Tennesse etc etc................them places all seem the same to me from top to bottom. Whether it be the southern accents, over the top politeness to every Tom, Dick & Harry, dressing, attitude etc...it seems all the same from my eyes/viewpoint.

Anway I love visiting the south cause it's so different & totally a breath of fresh air especially from where I'm coming from, but to live there might be a whole different story all together. I dunno know 'bout that yet.
 
Mann ain't no money in tha SIP. I'm from there. If you open your own business the rednecks will do any and everything to see it fail. You'll go through hell with the redtape just to open it. You'll really catch hell if it's a restaurant. There's always the factories, lumber plants, cashiers, UPS,car dealers, Walmart, realators, the mall, Mcdonalds, & the Nissen factory in Jackson. Most good jobs are family owned and passsed down. If you don't know any of the good ole boys you probablly won't find a good job. Other than holes in the walls the only really good place to party is in Jackson, La, or Tenn. Even the strip clubs are in Jackson. Most of the people I know down there make between $800.00 - $2000.00 a month. If that. Teachers don't make shit either. My military retirement is more than most of them make. They have a lot of people there from La because of Katrina.

Oh yeah the women. There's some real fine ones there. Every kind of sista you are looking for is there. Just make sure you are protected. Some of those sistas are quick to hit ya up on that pregnant tip. Just be careful. A lot of those sistas are struggling. Some feel hopeless. Dope and big crime has invaded a many parts of the Sip. one thing you should know. Mississppi is like it's own little country. It's doesn't want to change. If someone calls you boy don't kill them. White folks are like that down there. Most accept it.be careful of who you hang with. The cops will follow you and stop you for anything, especially if you have a nice car or out of state plates. They watch me when I visit like the FBI. The place is verrry slow. Bootleg dvd & cds are plentiful. LOl!!!

Tell him to go to Grenada, MS it's like 30 miles away from Greenwood... if has no other choice but to live in Greenwood... then tell him it's some rough spots ova there in the delta... and SOME BIG ASS BUGS!
 
I went to my fam reunion last year in McComb,MS and it seemed like every car must come with a free set of 20's , even the old people were sittin on twinkes..
as for the cost of living my peeps were complaining about chicken breast costing 69 cents a pound :D , i spent 70 dollars at the local hip hop shop and came out with a whole outfit shoes and shades included. it was a nice place to visit but i wouldn't trade the NY for it... hope that helps

If you in R.E., then it'll be good. You can buy houses for 10K and under if you got a good gift of Gab. Then you take that bitch put about 10K into; A/C Heating unit, cheap spa tub, new windows, new doors, texture walls, new kitchen, new bathrooms. Then you can rent that bitch out to Section 8 for about 500-600 amonth. And the person renting it, will love the shit out of you and they won't move for the rest of their lifetime.:yes: The way they live before the move in, they'll be lining up to move into your shit. Know get 10 or 20 of them bitches and you set for life. You have to be there for about 5 years. School you a youngster or bring one with you so that he can manage your property.

If you want to see Greenwood MS, watch "Mississippi Masala" starring Denzel Washington! It will show you Greenwood circa 1990. It will also show you the night clubs down there, too! (Remember the part where they were all in that hot, wood-paneled, sweating- floor joint doing the 'Electric Slide?')

Don't hear too much about people moving "into" the Delta.

Took prospective college students into Greenwood a couple of years ago on a college tour and ALL of us couldn't wait to leave. Crazy strange place. EXTREMELY segregated and seemingly proud of it. We were told of at least two restaurants that are "unofficially" for whites only. (can you believe that shit?!!!)

Mississippi Valley State was about 10 minutes down the road but the oddest college campus I've ever seen. Sits in the middle of HUGE cotton fields and is close to nothing but Itta Bena (which ain't saying much). Has suffered greatly due to the unequal dispersement of state funds to colleges and universities and looked a hot fuckin' mess. Campus was a ghost town by about 3:00 pm the Friday we were there due to almost ALL the student going home for the weekend. That obviously points to there being nothing to do in the surrounding area (including Greenwood).

Seems like an odd choice unless you're trying to make a career jump by working in "no-mans-land" for a stint to show "dedication" to a company that'll pull you out in a year or two.

I don't know 'bout this......:smh:

Man I'm from the Sipp, I don't know much of Greenwood except there aren't a lot of jobs there, but that's pretty much anywhere. What have to understand is the small town mentality. It's a whole different mindset. Many of the cats who posted have given good advice, warnings, and facts. If your educated (depending on what) you will get some lee way. Other than that, it will be tough. There is some overt racism still but not on some crazy shit. I'm from a small town and I have never been called boy by a white person. There are some bad broads, but like with any broad, be careful. If you can hit Jackson, that is where the action is, but there are some cuthroats in the Sipp, just don't go there on some "I'm from the city" shit. That will make you a target just to prove a point.

It's hot then a bitch so be ready for that....
The advantage you have (as far as the women are concerned) is that you are a new face. That will give you a leg up on some shit. Small town folks love a new face. Try to stay mysterious and you should get plenty of action...
 
My boy only gonna be there for a year at the most, he got a job there already that pays pretty good. He just wanna know if he can take Greenwood,MS for a year. As long as he got some thick broads and some things to do, he be aight. His job gonna have him travelling a lot, so he hardly gonna be n town that much. Do they got any good looking broads at Mississippi Valley State U?

Don't know anything about Greenwood,MS. I'm from Ripley,MS its up north about an hour from Memphis. It'll be different if your not from MS. But the people for the most part are very friendly. The club scene where I'm from, shit there isn't any, everyone heads to Memphis for all the clubin'. Houses are cheap. My dad told me about a 3 bed 2 bath, brick house sitting on about 2-3 acres on a hill over looking a lake. So if you want a lotta house for your money, the Mississippi is the place.
 
Can anyone speak on how it is in Hattiesburg, MS (nightclubs, quality of women, cost of living)? I may be moving out there myself.

the BEST LOOKING black female i've ever seen in my life was born & raised in hattiesburg, ms. i'm talking the classic creole look... smooth, silky black curly hair, nice cafe au lait complexion, curves, beautiful teeth, etc.

but overall, in mississippi, you'll get two things:

1. low, low cost of living.

If you want a place that's more integrated in MS... go to Vicksburg. I went to 2 predominately white churches and my son was THE most popular kid at the second church. Get a job as a card dealer at one of the casinos. HELL, wherever you move to in MS, work at a casino. But yeah, if you're from the North, be prepared for a culture shock. EVERYONE is friendly. Well, almost everyone. Just go to a place like Vicksburg or even move to Choctaw, MS and work at SilverStar Casino.
