She's no Madonna lol. Not ALL publicity sells records and gets people to come to your concerts...this isn't the kind of publicity that's actually going to get people to help her financial gain unless she finds a way to flip this disaster. If she was a smaller scale artist that wasn't so well known, sure, something like this might still help. But she's not. She's extremely popular and trying to be taken more seriously as an artist. That is pretty much a bust, like I said she either flips the situation somehow or she ignores it and hopes she can do something else to get the right kind of attention...but right now, nobody's gonna be checking for her.

Lady Gaga is more in that Madonna/Cher mode. You gotta be cool and smart to play that hoeish slut role off and be successful with it. Miley just looks pathetic with hers. It ain't cute cool or sexy.
She reminds me of a slutty Lindsay Lohan. She's like the drunk chick at the bar that embarrasses herself but doesn't realize it.
It's almost like when the TV chick from In The House got cracked out and naked or that chick from Xscape with mental problems and the mastectomy got naked. In both cases it was sad not sexy.
At least Montana Fishburne was just your average dumb porn ho. There are thousands of them out here at clubs and everywhere. Typical dumb hoes but plenty of them can be quite sexy.

Miley Cyrus has gotten mostly negative publicity over the last couple of years and her fame has grown and so has her bank account. Madonna has also received her share of negative publicity in her career. The majority of people criticizing her didn't like her anyway, I don't believe this will hurt her among her fans. Look at the Superbowl fiasco with Timberlake, he's bigger now than he was at the time and that was covered far more and witnessed by many more people than the VMA's.

People still have to buy the records, merchandise and concerts. Miley is not nearly as established and respected for her music as Madonna or JT had been. She's got plenty of popularity, yes, but a performance like this really didn't help. It was a bad song and an extremely embarrassingly bad performance from a pop star that's struggling to be taken seriously. She has to play this off real slick for this to become an actual gain, but right now, it is not a gain.

Very true. But the reaction was shock and awe, not laughter and awkward silence. Shock value usually works, this case with Miley wasn't exactly that as much as it just was one big WTF moment.

Even funnier was the end of the performance and the camera panning the crowd. Her 40-something mom was standing and applauding, smiling. Little did she know the backlash to come over the following day alone. Shit ... Hollyweird ... it never dissapoints. Anyone got any screencaps of BILLY RAY in the crowd, or was he in attendance in NY?

It may not have been Xscape. It was one of those one hit wonder 80s or 90s girl groups. It might have been that group called Blacque. They made that 808 song I think. I forget which group she was from. There was a thread on here about it. It was pretty sad. Her boyfriend filmed it because she had mental problems and would get naked and act real crazy.
It was not a pretty sight and I felt bad for the dude trying to deal with her and her problem.
Okay I just remembered. I know who it was. It was the girl from that group Something For The People. I think that's who it was.

There simply are TOO MANY differences to try to compare what Miley's doing to what Madonna has done. Miley's performance was a complete disaster and she did not pull of the image I think she was trying to accomplish. She just looked stupid and completely out of place. I knew her music was bad but my gawd, to have a performance go that poorly just ain't gonna do shit for her.
