Mike Jones Explains Why the Attention Left Houston in 2005

In your opinion

But in many others opinions mine included those dudes are legends

Texas always did our own thing and supported our own in the underground

Very true.

Outkast came out in the freaking 90s bruh. Early 90s at that. :hmm:
Also Jeezy isn't even from fucking Atlanta that nigga from Macon some hick ass town.

Isn't that a good thing, showing their longevity and growth as artists, individually and as a duo?

It's really too bad that Houston didn't maintain that high profile, just as young rappers like Kyleon were coming.

damn, i'd luv to hear the real story on what happened when master p kidnapped pimp c. what was really said between p and j prince....

Lol me 2. All I know is p must have been a big nigga to even try to kidnapp dude

i listen to west coast gangsta rap & bounce from NOLa.

fuck the rest.

i like the music that makes the women shake their ass.

Haven't even touched on the new bloods Jay Electronica, Currensy, Dee-1, Mack Maine, The Knux, Truth Universal, females 3D Natee and Allie Baby and many more...

You were saying?

Yeah and the rest of No and Memphis copied from....

Don't Mess with Texas or whatever it was called is a classic. I was just throwing names off the head. I had a brain freeze due to how many names I was posting.

Outkast came out in the freaking 90s bruh. Early 90s at that. :hmm:

Yeah his few songs were classics. Didn't he do a lot of stuff behind the scenes?

Also how could I freaking forget Trae the Truth! Dude been around a long time and has a good following.

Also Devin the Dude is another name that is known but unknown.

Only reason u listed kast and jeezy is because ugk was listed. Kast released 3 albums on the 2000s....

And ugk is not from Houston they pa dudes. Ur list sucks btw

It was all good until the spotlight came and certain artist became nationally known which caused some have bigger ego's and attitudes than they should have. And that division that was already present just became wider and deeper.

Jprince had no hand in that because none of the younger dudes wasn't fucking with him because they know whats up.But he tried to bring em together as the spotlight was getting dim but by then it was to late.

Scarface stopped because of jprince, one man eating more off of you than you are eating off of yourself, whats the point of even doing it?.

Why does Houston have no love for Mike Jones?
Cause he had a hit or two and when the attention came the locals felt he was acting like he was bigger than them because he wasn't fucking with and he had every right to do so because again he snuck up on and did it on his own without being from clique.

These ninjas (MIKE JONES ETC) were wack....still wack and will continue to be wack..
Only thing they may have in their corner was beats.. THATS IT FOLKS!!!!!

Contributing? Sheeeeiiiit, not a damn thing but the permission to operate in his neck of the woods. Bruh, there is a reason J. Prince has been around longer than ALL these "bosses" in the game and virtually nobody goes at dude. Think about it, all these cats like P, Baby, Diddy, Suge, Irv Gotti, etc. have all had all kinds of beef and people come at them. J. been around longer than all of them and nobody speaks out on him despite numerous stories of him strong armin' cats. That alone should tell you all you need to know. Nothing going down in Houston w/o J. Prince cosigning.

I wouldn't doubt it.

I understand ,but damn houston is a big ass city... seems like he runs all of it...and you can't get shit done without him getting a piece...That's god status...

Why does Houston have no love for Mike Jones?

the first verse is believed to be about Jones

TRU^^^^^

 St. Louis probably had more hits on the charts.

Houston nigga's aint care about Hits.

S.U.C. was the shit down south.

S.U.C. = KeKe, Fat Pat, Hawk, Big Steve, Big Moe....
and Screw mixed a lot of UGK, Scarface, Mr.Mike, 8ball & MJG..

We didn't listen the radio & we didn't listen to East Coast rap. Although Screw did mix some West Coast Rap (The Chronic, Death Row & West Side Connect)

MIKE JONES went radio & commercial with the sound & rhymes that the SUC invented. That shit was corny to us, we had already heard it before and his shit wasnt genuine.

Lil Flip got more respect than Mike Jones because he at least acknowledged that the roots of his lyrical content/style came from the S.U.C.!

Houston has a lot of artist that have never been big time but have huge followings. Z Ro has been around for a long time. Sold a lot of shows and things of that nature but will never be on 106th and Park. Lil Flip was big time in the South at one point. Back in the day he was dropping mix cds and them suckers sold. People don't know the influence that DJ Screw had on a lot of peoples careers down here. They just never blew up to national attention.

Big Moe
Big Pokey
Z Ro
Flip
Lil O
Slim Thug
From Slim Thugs camp J Dawg...dude has good music but will never go big
Big Mike
ESG
UGK...They have never gone platinum and are some of the biggest names in the industry
Ya'll probably have never heard of South Park Mexican. Dude was running the Mexican rap scene in Houston till get got locked up for fucking lil girls.

The list goes on and on but the issue mainly with Houston rap is all they talk about is drank and rims. :smh:

Back in the day DJ Screw used to sell a grey tape every tuesday or wednesday. Say he sold a 1,000 of them for 10 bucks. Look at how much money that nigga was pulling in. No label

I'm a southerner myself, and the only people id even bother listening to off this list was UGK, Slim thug and Big Mike. All of the rest of those cats pretty much sounded the exact same with the exception of zero. And I dont see how Atlanta can get labeled for trash if Houston gets a pass for chopped and screwed music, which a HUGE portion of their music was.

Stop including UGK, they're from PORT ARTHUR lol...the rest of the list isnt even worth mentioning.

It's funny you say that because when you look up who influence some of these rap artist in the south (including Texas). East Coast artist many times are apart of that influence (especially those with lyrical skills).

Copied?! How does one equate copying to a song that spawned a sound of two regions & different genres??? Copying??? No. Influenced??? Yes. Da sound of NO & M-Town was heavily influenced by that one song. Not so much today as in years past but still.

Word.

you say tomato, I say tomahto:lol:

Simply put Mike Jones got exposed...niggaz knew for a long time he was fraud...but them Swishahouse cats had to put on for their camp...the nigga was hot so they rode it and ate off of him...But u can ask Slim or Paul or Chamillionaire and they will tell u stories of how that nigga Mike used to lie about all kinds of shit. They used to call that nigga Versace or some shit

That Ice Age piece he had a nigga in Mike own camp stole it out of his condo while he was there...Mike knew who did it and didn't do shit...A nigga whooped Mike ass in front of an audience and he goes on stage talking about rims on a bentley...all that shit gone now

and none of these niggaz was getting along at that time...Lil Flip was beefing with almost everybody...even niggaz in SUC dont get along and its always been like that...them cats had chances to sign major deals but passed on em being stupid and them same niggaz still selling dope or got jobs...ESG was selling Tshirts all star weekend

No unity means no longevity...Look at Trinidad James...ATL niggaz got behind him no issue...Houston niggaz didnt do that because one was beefing with the other

J Prince been doing the same shit for years and gonna keep doing it...look at Big Mike...Mike tried to leave Rap A Lot and J sent some hitters to his house and they shot at Mike sitting in his living room...so he went and set a Rapalot building on fire and went to prison for arson

J Prince used Pimp C to his advantage...Pimp came home to millions courtesy of Prince and he never had it like that before...so he rode for that nigga just like Pac did for Suge...under the same circumstances...dangle them millions and watch a nigga dance...Pimp wife just sued Prince not even 2yrs ago

The attention left because there was too much bullshit going on in house to keep it...I give it to them Atl niggaz they came from all over the country and held it together and repped ATL even the BMF niggaz...talk about the music all u want Atlanta has put out bullshit just like everybody and they have beefs too but they have been shining since the first Outkast album

Yep niggas from Houston been telling me since 2002 thy Mike Jones a hoe so none of that surprises me one bit

And yeah there was a lot of beefing amongst each other and you gotta give ATL credit they come together for the cause for the most part and that's why the city continues to have longevity

Even if you ain't from ATL originally it's just seems like it's different when you blow up out if ATL

I know niggas and females who moved away from Dallas and live in Atlanta right now trying to get on

I'm kind of confused to the hate Mike getting in here...not from you but in general. Mike was acting "hard" and shit? I never got that impression from him. I always felt the reason why he got on was because he was more of the everyday dude. He wasn't really rappin' about killin' niggas and on no fake tough guy shit. Atleast that's my perception of him.

I remember before he got on and him and Magno were running shit...straight hood favorites. Now niggas make fun of the "Who? Mike Jones" shit but everbody was rockin' that shit faithfully.

I never thought of him as a hoe but I look at him like I look at Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Chingo Bling, etc. They not gangsta's but they don't act like they are either. Humble cats who everybody respect. But for whatever reason Mike sort of lost his steam when Trae got at him....

I never heard of Mike being a "hoe" but I did hear he sort of got the big head and was feeling himself but that's some he said she said shit.

In regards to what the OP posted, nobody really heard what Mike was saying but the shit rings true. How all them niggas from Flip who went platinum, Slim Thug who went gold, Paul who went platinum and Chamillionaire who went platinum all of a sudden not get any type of follow up without any problems? All them niggas had label problems because they blew up at the time when them 360 deals were becoming more frequent.

And they went at these niggas more than anyone else because these were the same artists who were already millionaires before they signed on a major. They wanted to cash-in on their hustle.

Its a shame what happen to the Houston rap game and I sit here and look at Drake and ASAP Rocky over here stealing the same shit that all these niggas helped birth. To Drake's credit he always pays ode to the H but H-Town should be far more relevant than what it is.

Houston is the only city in the south that collectively was putting out decent artist & music in the 2000s.

And to dude who said Houston is one of the few cities in the South that makes decent music across the board? I agree with that shit.

And niggas are bringing up Atlanta and I get why because they have a string of ill lyricists and rappers but man Atlanta had just as many wack ass rappers too. Thing about Houston was that if you was wack you wasn't getting on. All these niggas could spit. All of them had metaphors and punchlines. Mike was probably the weakest but he wasn't nearly as wack as them Ying Yang Twins, Franchise Boyz, D4L and the rest of them niggas.

Everybody know UGK is H-Town man...they been on too many H-Town classics and they were big pioneers for H-Town too. That's like saying Scarface really from Camden, New Jersey.

It went South because there is no room for growth in the city.

The city scape wants it all homegrown, so eat everything that the homegrown will give you.
Atlanta is not the south The Pimp has clarified this for everybody!! When you step of the plane in Atlanta do you have to adjust your watch???
Of course he would think that, he lives in CST. Great rhyme, but let's face it, wuldn't nun a dis sh!t goin' mainstream, whether J Prince and Pimp C wanted it or not, without Organized Noise aka Outkast.

Texas is central to "south"west.
i don't know about that god shit but def the don. betta ask somebody.

That's what I'm askin'!

I was typing that, but said fuck it! He went from 'lil sace' to becoming a star off Slim's Still Tipping...he ended up taking the spot Magno shoulda had.

I never heard of Mike being a "hoe" but I did hear he sort of got the big head and was feeling himself but that's some he said she said shit.

that's the thing, his head got big & he started getting outta pocket. This the same cat that use to be at the San Felipe 24 Hr rolling around on the ground doing And1 tricks :smh:

Everybody know UGK is H-Town man...they been on too many H-Town classics and they were big pioneers for H-Town too. That's like saying Scarface really from Camden, New Jersey.

Them niggas been Houston since Bun enrolled at TSU. They ride H-Town as hard as PA.

 Yea I even seen that nigga on a MTV special hitting that Hot Sauce bullshit. I was dyin'......but I never got that vibe from dude but the shit about him getting big head I can believe. He was feelin' himself. For awhile he took that spot that Flip left vacant. But I always knew his shelf life would be small......

But i'll say this for him that sophomore album he dropped "The Voice" was actually better than his debut. Cuddy Buddy and Next To You did well down here but they should've been bigger. Nigga couldn't even get Trey Songz, T-Pain or Wayne or Twista to show up for the damn Cuddy Buddy video......
