Good... I wonder will she be able to stop the current Governor from gerrymandering the state before he out of office...

Oh and regarding any 11th-Hour Gerrymandering sequel plans, that shit is DEAD....

Kemp rules out lame duck Georgia redistricting, with Dems poised to take over

Georgia’s congressional lines are already gerrymandered.

ATLANTA — Outgoing Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will not call a special session to redraw the state’s congressional and legislative maps or limit the powers of his Democratic successor before leaving office, he said in a statement Wednesday, the day after Republicans were swept out of power in the red-leaning state.

“The voters of our state have spoken,” Kemp, a Republican, said. “As long as I’m governor, we will always respect the results of secure, accessible, and fair elections, and also abide by the laws and constitution of our state. I will not be calling a special session of the Georgia General Assembly in order to curtail executive branch powers or debate redistricting changes.”

Republicans in the state had flirted with enacting a mid-decade map redraw since the Supreme Court decision that cut down the Voting Rights Act in April. But Kemp rejected calls for a redraw ahead of the November midterms in May, saying that voting was already underway in state primaries.

Georgia Republicans then rejected a Kemp-led effort to redraw maps for 2028 in June, with state House Speaker Jon Burns telling reporters Republicans were not focused on “partisan gain.”

Georgia Democrats quickly celebrated the decision. “It's a wise choice,” Sen. Raphael Warnock said in an interview with POLITICO. ”I welcome that development because here's the thing: the four most powerful words in a democracy are ‘The people have spoken.’ The people spoke last night, and if you get rebuked by the people, the honorable thing to do is to course correct, not play with the maps.”

Georgia’s congressional lines are already gerrymandered. The state will have a nine Republican, five Democratic House delegation next Congress — the same as this year’s — with no seat flipping despite Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff’s yawning win Tuesday night.

Georgia Republicans suffered brutal defeat after brutal defeat in Tuesday’s midterm election, part of a nationwide voter backlash to President Donald Trump, the war in Iran and sky-high gas prices. Democratic Gov.-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms also bested her opponent, billionaire health care executive Rick Jackson, by more than eight points.

The blowout wins may, however, cost Republicans the majority in the state House, which they’d held since the 2004 election and are similarly drawn to favor their party.

Kemp left open the possibility of a special session to resolve “budgetary issues that may need to be addressed before the convening of the regular session in January,” perhaps his last major action as governor before ceding the reins to Bottoms next year.
