Yes, Jordan was/is an asshole. And, yes, this speech eludes to that part of his character. But that doesn't change his place in basketball history. And the speech is also a greater testimony to the parts of his character that it takes to be where he is. Being the best is like sausage making. People love the end product, but hate the process. It is what it is. I can't recall very many, if any, great people who weren't/aren't considered an asshole by not great people at some point. Coincidence? I think, not.
