MERGED: McCain picks PALIN

Re: Palin = Alaska Oil......simple

She's only been a pain on this one issue with Big Oil. She did what most states (other than Louisiana) have done - and that's make sure that the Big Oil pays their fair share to the state. Not a big deal.

On the other hand, she's down to give Big Oil everything they want...such as....TAPPING INTO THE ALASKAN PRESERVE.

Still think she's not a friend of Big Oil??

Agreed, but its best to remove potential threats ASAP...drawing more attention, she might've had no alternative other than to get seriously tough with the Big Oil boys...

McCain WILL LOSE!!!

Let's see if this gets as many replies as that other thread. :D

Palin looks like a desperation pick. It gives clues about their plans for the upcoming campaign and their estimation of Obama's chances.

McCain picks someone who undermines his claims of leadership and ready-to-lead.

Not only that, he picked someone from an outlier state.

It's like these guys are trying to see who can lose the election fastest.

Obama is from Hawaii (with only 1 term of exp.)
Palin is from Alaska (with 18 months exp.)
McCain was born in Panama (oldest ever)

The only mainland guy on either ticket is Joe Biden (never thought he would be an asset).

Either way, African-Americans are screwed this election.

There is going to be no representation for us in either Cabinet.

No one is going to be understand and speak for our issues because both candidates plan to gut African-American leadership as it currently exists.

McCain is doomed with this pick, as it looks right now.

This chick has ZERO, NONE, absolutely lacking in political experience. She scares me more than Obama.

In fact, I'm tempted to get back on the Obama train.

What was McCain thinking? Or, maybe, he doesn't think.

Re: These white bitchs gonna tear Obama's ass up !!!! HA HA

I think this is bad move for McCain. First of all it's transparent, but secondly it takes away his only real assault against Obama. which is the experience factor. The VP is suppose to be able to step in and actually be the president if needed. So how now does he justify someone younger than Obama and is also short on experience is able to step in and be president.

It is obvious as hell to what he is doing. Plus if Hillary decides to really dig in this bitch ass, it's less likely he will be able to pick up her rouge supporters.

Ms. Alaska

She hunts! She fishes! She eats moose burgers! She can gut a salmon as well as dispatch an incumbent governor! She’s a rural mother of five who clings to guns and religion -– exuberantly!

In choosing as his running mate Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, two years removed from her only other political job as a small-town mayor, John McCain has certainly offered up a giant-killer -– “Sarah Barracuda,” as she’s known in the Last Frontier State.

Palin, who has more than a passing resemblance to Tina Fey, took on the kleptocracy of Alaska’s Republican politics and won.

First, she ousted hated incumbent Frank Murkowski in a primary two years ago, and then promptly cleaned up his mess in Juneau, even selling his private jet on e-bay. Second, she rejected the “bridge to nowhere,” the famous earmark for a span from Ketchikan to an island of 50 people -– further angering the politicians-for-life who have run Alaska for half as long as it’s been in the union.

But she has her own ethics concern, the subject of an investigation of whether the governor’s office was involved in the firing a state trooper who was in the midst of a nasty divorce from Palin’s sister — Troopergate with a bit of Alaska Gothic thrown in. And McCain’s selection -– a woman who looks young enough to be his college-age daughter -– makes it hard for Republicans to criticize Barack Obama for his in inexperience. Palin is an inoculation for what may be the biggest rap against Obama. That’s a huge risk.

Could Palin take on Putin?

Slaying Frank Murkowski and dueling with Don Young, the pork-loving congressman behind the bridge, is one thing. Both men are old-style hacks, to be kind. But Palin has zero experience on the world stage -– a crucial factor for McCain, who made the announcement on his 72nd birthday. And, just recently, she seemed to have no idea what the job of vice president entails.

“What is it exactly that the vice president does every day?” she asked in an interview on CNBC. A fair question, but one that also reinforces her inexperience.

Her bio is classic Alaska, a state where everyone has a past but it’s so far, far away –- “Outside,” as Alaskans call the mainland United States. If Cokie Roberts thinks Hawaii is “foreign and exotic,” what will she and her other geographically challenged pundits think of Alaska, which has its own time zone?

Palin eloped with her husband, Todd, a commercial fisherman, who later won the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snow machine (as snowmobiles are called in Alaska) race. She gave each of her five children names that sound like her state -– Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. She’s a self-described “hockey mom,” which means something in Minnesota and Colorado, two battleground states.

As a University of Idaho graduate, a television sports reporter, a beauty queen who was Miss Wasilla and competed for Miss Alaska, Palin brings a bit of the “Legally Blonde” aspect to the race -– you underestimate her at your peril, as opponents found in Alaska, and in the movie.

Militantly anti-choice and evangelical, the 44-year-old gave birth to her last child five months ago. (There were complications — the child has Down Syndrome — a point that she brings up in explaining her convictions.) Does she woo women, the disgruntled ex-Hillary supporters? That may be a tougher sell, given that she’s bound to back the kind of Supreme Court justices who will remove abortion protections.

And on energy, she could have a debate with her ticket-mate, for Palin favors drilling for oil in the Alaska wildlife refuge, while McCain opposes it -– for now.

Oil has made her state rich, so much so that Palin has asked the legislature this year to give every Alaskan $1,200 as one-time energy relief. But it’s also made it ripe for corruption.

Tough, independent, a feisty feminist — that’s one image of the Republican pick. But there’s also the echo of Dan Quayle.

In Alaska, big dreams come to life quickly. They just as swiftly crash.

Re: These white bitchs gonna tear Obama's ass up !!!! HA HA

Van Allen, I can respect the fact that you are not pro-Obama. He is not the end all of America's problems but much better than McCain. Can you explain why you like McCain? I mean, I know you liked Hillary but is no longer a factor. Why do you want more of the same?

Re: McCain aint stupid after all......

OK, it's time to put this whole fiasco to rest.

McCain is an idiot for getting this hockey-mom to be his VP. It was a dumb and desperate move. Let me tell you why:

1. She's really inexperienced. Alaska has a total population of just over 600,000. And she was governor for only 2 years. Her town that she was mayor of had only 8,000 people on it. Most of the time, you're a mayor, but you're doing it part-time. And being City Council of that small town is not even a part-time job. It's volunteer work. That's laughable.

2. McCain is old. McCain had bouts with cancer before. He's 72 years old. In 4 years, he'll be 76. This pick just amplifies his age and the dangers therein, because if something happens to him, Sarah is the President of the United States. A Hockey mom! Now can you imagine her staring down Hu Jintao or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Can you imagine her having to deal with the crisis in Georgia and Russia? But if something happens to McCain, she's going to be running the country.

3. She's already on record pretty much saying that she's not ready to be the VP. There's videos on Youtube that's killing her.

4. She's currently under investigation for abuse of power. Plus, her husband works for BP, doesn't he? Ties to Big Oil.

5. She is already on record endorsing Barack Obama's Energy Policy. So how is she going to debate it when she has endorsed it?

6. She isn't someone who's used to the national spotlight. Can you imagine her having to respond to attacks by Geraldine Ferraro? Hillary Clinton? And can you imagine putting her record next to Michelle Obama's? And do she know that right now the media is going through every inch of her background to find dirt on her? Or her family? Or her friends? Does she know that the bikini portion of her Miss Alaska pageant is going to be used in commercials by Moveon.org?

7. She is going to seriously put McCain's judgement into doubt. Look, he passed over Romney, Pawlenty, Fiorina, Hutchinson, Whitman, and many others who can probably step in and be President in the case of an emergency. People will see his pick as a potential national security risk. And some will start calling him senile. Tomorrow. Watch.

I can go on and on. I can talk about Ted Stevens. I can talk about the remoteness of Alaska and how she came off as completely out of touch with the lower 48 states. I can talk about how she's going to be debating Joe Biden. I can talk about that debacle of a speech earlier.

But I feel sorry for her. This is going to be a bloodbath. And I'm actually angryy with McCain for doing this to such a nice lady.!

You might sound smart using all those syllables and trying to make a point with big 10 dollar words n such. Fancy talk, like your Kor-ran carrying, " Bro " Ba-RACK!

But good Ole Unc Ruckus ain't falling for the monkey Shuffle.

Vice President Sarah Louise Heath Palin is an excellent choice. SHE'S A WHITE WOMAN! With a wonderfully creamy shade of pale white flesh.

The union of these two white persons is indivisible!

Full of Liberty! Free as an Alaskan Bald Eagle, you can just see the Justice flowing through their amalgamation.

It sho is a beautiful thing to be white in white America today.

I think its a good move. there were/are many whites out there still refusing to vote for a black man... no matter how qualified he is...period...... you hear them say "I still haven't made up my mind yet" please tell me how anyone at this point could HAVE a problem choosing between these two men, other than the color issue?
many of these voters are white women who would use any excuse to not have to vote for obama, so the gender question is now solved for them, they have their white woman, and can feel good about voting for the ticket on the grounds of gender... Even if the political ideologies don't go with their views, color is a stronger issue for them.

Re: McCain aint stupid after all......

its an interesting choice but FAR from unprecedented... anyone remember geraldine ferraro??? for you test tube babies..probably not..lol

but the ONLY way this works really for mccain is if palin holds her own going head to head against biden in debates... THATS the only measure people will look for in the next two months.

If palin has a "fuck you, I know what I'm doing" moment then that will be a game changer...otherwise mccain picked a woman...so what...wow a female vice presidential candidate..how so 1984

All I have to say is, that Obama should of picked Hilary...

why..so he can alienate HIS 18 million voters??

what does hillary bring to the table REALLY?? I want someone to answer that question seriously...in terms of the things he choose biden for how does hillary fit that bill?

Re: I'll Fuck Sarah Palin

man fuck this grafted, troglodyte, mutanoid, caucasoid, devil, white cave bitch......j/k. no im serious. she could get slutted out once or twice. i could use the political pull.

I need to see whole body now adays

Re: I'll Fuck Sarah Palin

I'd fuck the bitch too, but I've fucked a lot of hoe's I wouldn't let run accross the street, let alone the country.

I don't know here...

This pick by Mccain worries me... It might do more harm to Barack than people think.

Sure steadfast Repubs may hat the VP choice.........but they still are going to pull the LEVER for McCain over Barack.

McCain is not going to LOSE votes over this........he is only going to gain a few females with this.

The question is that "Few" enough to win the election.

Re: McCain picks a white bitch.. UH-OH!!

sigh.

"omgz, da white house is no place for on da job learning".

this pick is too easy to dissect man.

To the contrary, whether we choose to accept it or not, the White House IS "on da job learning". She will have four years in her pocket by 2012. If Hillary can claim she is ready in 2012, this woman can say she is already in the house. Thus, my guess is that Palin is a future hedge against Hillary. Sure she is a conservative, but her almost soccer mom image may attract a very large sector of women. I'm sure McCain and company went over every reason as to why this was a bad choice, yet they still made it. It only looks easy to dissect among to us outsiders.

u guys who actually think this is a good strategic move have no clue.

if anything, she'll just shore up the conservative white woman base...who WERENT GOING TO VOTE FOR OBAMA ANYWAYS.

Let's face it, we are nothing more than armchair quarterbacks trying to figure out what the game plan is. As for his choice, no matter what we think, in reality, none of us here really have a clue. Based on my theory, I feel it is a good choice. But does it really matter? Obama should take this.

Re: McCain picks a white bitch.. UH-OH!!

There is one key way this may backfire on him. He may have just solidified every Clinton supporter to Obama's side.

Clintons supporters desperatly wanted her as the first women president. I hate to bring this up but McCain is up there in age, his veep sadly has a realistic chance to succeed him during the 1st term. Having the mere possiblity of this unknown chick becoming the first women president will not sit well with Clinton supporter. Those who planned on voting for McCain or even just sitting out, could well be unified now to Obama's side.

Another draw back Hillary was laying low,do you think she will sit back and let this no-name bitch take her shine? Hell to the naw, she bout to show her natural black ass in campagning for obama.

Re: I'll Fuck Sarah Palin

So just because she doesnt look like Janet Reno means she can get it? :lol:Bitch can get kicked in the teeth.
