LOL, what do YOU consider true multi-tasking?

I have a 3GS and I don't have a problem with dropped calls.

Here is your VoIP.

iPhone 4 Review: The WORST Things About Apple's New iPhone (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post | Bianca Bosker First Posted: 06-22-10 09:49 AM | Updated: 06-22-10 09:49 AM

Apple promises that its new iPhone 4 will "change everything, all over again."

While Apple's "new baby," offers some promising new features, like multitasking and a front-facing camera, it also has some major drawbacks.

Before you sign up for two years with AT&T, camp out in front of an Apple Store, and fork over $200 (minimum), check out our rundown of the worst things about the iPhone 4. (For an alternate take, be sure to browse the 9 best iPhone 4 features next!)

Its Screen
slide_7791_103623_large.jpg

The iPhone 4 boasts a glass screen that Apple claims is stronger than plastic and more resistant to scratches. But its durability--and scratch resistance--has yet to be tested by users' everyday wear.

Already, there are reports that the iPhone's screen smudges easily and fails to withstand "shock and sudden impact." CNET writes in its early review of the iPhone 4, "The glass attracts smudges by the ton and durability remains a concern." iFixyouri warns the iPhone's design could make its glass screen susceptible to shattering: "On the new iPhone, the glass basically sits on top of the aluminum frame. On the old iphone, it was recessed and protected by a chrome bezel."

No Flash Player
The iPhone 4 (or any Apple device running iOS 4, for that matter) will not support Adobe's Flash platform, which means that Flash content anywhere on the web--everything from videos on Hulu and ESPN to interactive ads to Flash-based websites--will be inaccessible on the iPhone 4. It is a loss for users, but Steve Jobs defended iOS 4's exclusion of Flash in a blog post earlier this year, citing "reliability, security and performance" issues.

As PC World also notes, "Adobe did announce a partnership with Greystripe to deliver Flash-based ads as HTML5 on the iPhone and iPad, but much of the Flash content on the Web will be inaccessible."

It's Tethered To AT&T
AT&T may have offered current subscribers what Apple dubbed a "generous" upgrade offer (if you're eligible for an upgrade any time in 2010, you can get the iPhone 4 on launch day at the subsidized $199 or $299 price provided you renew your contract)--but it's still AT&T, notorious for spotty service, dropped calls, and poor customer service.

Another potential downside: AT&T recently announced that it would kill its unlimited data plan and begin charging "data hogs" for the extra bandwidth they use.

Its "Closed" Platform
Apple has been hit by major criticism for the oftentimes unpredictable approval process it uses to determine which apps make to its App Store, as well as its "draconian" rules. Apple imposes numerous restrictions on the apps it approves (no porn, nothing that infringes on the Apple trademark, no apps criticizing public figures, etc) and is oftentimes "purposely vague" about its policies. In the past, Apple has also yanked apps without prior warning or explanation. Google, by contrast, has adopted an open source approach to the apps is allows on its Android OS devices. If you're pro-open source, the iPhone 4 may not be for you.

FaceTime Is Cool--But Limited
FaceTime, which allows users to video chat phone-to-phone, is one of the most highly-touted new features of the iPhone 4. While it's an attractive tool, it has a major limiting factor: video calls can only be placed iPhone 4 to iPhone 4, which means there's no "face-to face" chatting with friends that have older versions of Apple's smartphone. PC Mag's reviewer also noted that Facetime "isn't as sharp as I expected," while CNET remarked "the quality won't blow you away."

It Tracks Your Location (WTF???)
Apple's newest operating system, iOS 4, offers some major perks (i.e. multitasking), but it has a potential privacy issue as well: it automatically collects and shares the exact location of any user with an iPhone running iOS 4.

As the LA Times explains,

Apple Inc. is now collecting the "precise," "real-time geographic location" of its users' iPhones, iPads and computers.

In an updated version of its privacy policy, the company added a paragraph noting that once users agree, Apple and unspecified "partners and licensees" may collect and store user location data.

Its Price
If you're eligible for an upgrade, or a new user switching to AT&T, the iPhone will cost you $199 (for 16GB) and $299 (for 32GB). If you aren't eligible for an upgrade, switching early to the new iPhone will require you to shell out $399 and $499, for the 16 and 32GB models respectively. Buy the phone without a contract and it'll cost you even more: $599 and $699 for 16 and 32GB versions.

Re: iPhone 4 review roll in…

And that is why you fail. Get a computer. Who wants to go through all that for a phone?

Re: iPhone 4 review roll in…

I never have any signal problems with my 3g. Yeah AT%T isnt the best but there are worse services out there. So i'll prob stick with AT&T since im eligible for an upgrade and get an iphone 4 on thurs.

Re: iPhone 4 review roll in…

My iPhone 4 will be delivered sometime today and I'm looking forward to that shit, even if the shit aint jailbroken yet. It will be even better when its jailbroken and I can do facetime over 3g

Exactly E.R.! By the way, どのようにあったか。

Anyway, I never can understand when the fucking thread is clearly marked "iPhone 4 review roll in..." and it's posted by Divine, why people that clearly dislike Apple and the iPhone and LOVE Android phones come in here and tear down the iPhone.

I don't know how many iPhone users go into the EVO and Droid threads and talk shit, but my estimation is that it may only be a few besides Divine.

If you like your phone, then shut the fuck up and enjoy it! Simple as that. Every phone has their pros and cons.

This also goes for Divine, but Divine posts EVERYTHING that Apple comes out with so, like the late great Gary Coleman said, " Who Fucking Cares:dunno:?"

Oh, and as far as that idiotic statement listed earlier, " iPhone is the smartphone for dumb people", that's bullshit.

I know a number of professors, engineers, and business people that have these phones. You know why they are popular? Because they are easy to use.

If I want to do all the intricate bullshit that you and the rest of the 5% of the people that actually utilize all the features and apps that's on Android phones then I just jailbreak, which I've already done. Sure you can make an argument for the shit coming out the box being an open source network and having total autonomy over all the functions of your phone, but there's a reason why Apple does this. It's the same reason why they place a limiter on your car...so most idiots that don't know how to properly handle the device don't fuck it up in the process, protecting you and others from harm. And don't give me that shit about easily hacking into the iPhone by those security dudes that won that contest. Any system can be hacked so I'm not naive enough to believe that the iPhone can't...but so can your Android phones.

Those limits are placed on the phone so that it runs as smoothly and as seemlessly with its software and battery life as possible.

I have the wherewithall to jailbreak and use the same apps that people on Android use and many more, but if I had to be honest with myself and others, the shit really isn't necessary.

Best believe there will be the capability to use the face-to-face feature/video calls over 3g with the new jailbreak. Most iPhone users know that this isn't as big of deal as some are making it out to be. And again, kill that "Out the box" bullshit.

Like someone else said, the biggest drawback to the iPhone is its tie to AT&T.

Moving on:

Clearly the best wireless company is Verizon, with T-mobile in second (customer service), AT&T behind them and then Sprint.

T-mobiles service areas are a bit crappy but the customer service is fucking great and their phones aren't bad either.

AT&T may have questionable restrictions in service, but their phones are great and their service areas aren't bad. I'm sorry, I've never dropped a call in an area that another service provider didn't drop the same call.

Sprint has great phones, always have and always will. Their service area isn't the best (on par with AT&T or a bit worse) but what takes the cake is Sprint's fucked up, horrible customer service. It's not a coincidence that they had over $1 mill in lawsuits against them by customers. They will charge you for shit that you constantly have to pull them up on and then ask them to take the shit off your bill even though you never requested nor used the service.

Re: iPhone 4 review roll in…

And that is why you fail. Get a computer. Who wants to go through all that for a phone?

b/c unlike the iphone, android let's you do that easily without playing games with apple. 2ndly, google is ok with it and makes it fairly easy. 3rd, i enjoy variety and don't need to root for function whereas y'all jailbreak just to be able to do simple things that android does stock.

 Sprint customer service is 10X better than before. I never get a person that does not speak English. Service sprint is better than AT&T which i have a iphone as well. T-Mobile is would never go to because their coverage is bullshit. Never been charged for anything extra on sprint. Most of those shit claims came from cats that got phone that were made for internet use and did not want a data plan but still used the net. I saw so many people doing that shit and then wanted to bitch to sprint about their bill. They used the GPS shit and then when they got charged the 2.99 or 9.99 a month they tried to say they never used it. I put sprint before all of them and that only because Verizon charges me way more for less and they cripple their phones. How can someone rate AT&T over sprint when AT&T is notorious spotty service, dropped calls, and poor customer service.

This is a crappy review.

I mean everything mentioned in here is already public knowledge in some fashion.

I swear they try hard to beat down the iPhone, but continue to fail.

Again, the market is open for anyone to create a phone better than the iPhone. The EVO was a great attempt, but we need more companies to step up to the plate other than HTC.

This whole iPhone vs other phones argument is getting old. Bottomline, get the phone you like, and use it. The bitching and bickering is getting old, for real.

C/S and agree with you.

I cannot comment about wireless companies customer service though, as I have been with AT&T for a while. And apart from that, why does anyone have to constantly call Customer Service? Again, I've been with AT&T for over 5 years, and I cannot remember the last time I had a need to call Customer Service. Actually maybe about a year ago when I shattered the face of my HTC Tilt.

I don't have to call AT&T or Sprint as well. I called sprint to add my insurance and discount to my account but that it. My bills the same every month with both of them.

Re: iPhone 4 review roll in…

No one promotes like AgentCreed.
The only function that I can say that iphone is missing is the seamless CLoud syncing that Google offers right out of the box over Mobile me. Other then that aaaahhhhh yeah this is always a rush to one up for a market that Apple Created.

App store creation- APPLE
Touch screen UI DONE CORRECTLY FROM JUMP- APPLE
"Accelerometer in todays smart phones- APPLE"
GOOGLE MAPS on smartphones--- ok that was blackberry, but GOOGLE MAPS Visually appealing --APPLE!!

Everyone knew that forward facing camera was a game changer. built into the phone and not using an app done very well-- APPLE

Does anyone recall who installed an accelerometer in their phones first? I could have sworn it was Nokia.
(NOTE: I'm not feeding into the fanboy wars here. This is an honest question. My apologies if I've insulted either side.)
Does anyone remember?

Honestly people are downing this statement and its actually true for the most part.. The only thing he's ACTUALLY giving Apple credit for creating is the App Store which is true, its a trademark..

With that said what isnt true? Iphone was the first phone with SMOOTH UI from the beginning.

Accelerometer, he didnt say they INVENTED it, he said the ones you see in todays phones...which is true, Nokia and other companies have IMPROVED the accelerometer and have made it a more major part of the the phone where as it was ALWAYS one of the major components with Iphone..

The maps thing though he is tripping......
