Bradley will fight Khan in the UK

wp1cdfd60c.jpg

WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley has stated his willingness to travel from the US to England to face WBA champion Amir Khan. Frank Warren, Khan's promoter, has recently mentioned the possibility of a Khan-Bradley bout, and no sooner than he did Bradley's camp replied. Gary Shaw, Bradley's promoter, not only decalred his willingness for the fight, but went one further and said Bradley would be happy to travel to England to make it happen. Bold words, but Shaw may well see Khan as an easy target for his charge.
Khan, the WBA belt holder after defeating one of the weakest champions in the sport, Andreas Kotelnik, will still be considered vulnerable by many after his devastating one round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott, a fighter who has since lost to an opponent far from world title level, which could well highlight the weaknesses in Khan's armour more than the loss itself.
Both fighters do have mandatory contenders to consider too. US based Dmitry Salita is Khan's mandatory and Lamont Peterson Bradley's. Whilst neither bout could be considered a fight of great magnitude, they may be difficult to avoid without at least one of the fighters vacating their title.

What can we expect from Arreola/Klitschko?

wp8b5802c4.jpg

So it seems official. Latest hope from the USA ( although Mexican heritage ), Chris Arreola has signed to fight Vitali Klitschko on 26th September at the Staples Centre, Los Angeles. According to reports Los Angeles resident Arreola has been longing for this chance and to become the first heavyweight champion with the afforementioned Mexican heritage. But what can we expect from the fight?

It seems to me that Vitali ( 37-2 ( 36 ) ) has changed his style somewhat since his hiatus from the ring for 3 years, and in my opinion for the better. Although still upright in stance his movement now seems more languid and fluid and he uses his feet to surprisingly good effect. He also fights with a more hands down approach although with his height and reach advantages over most opponents, this style doesnt rely too much on reflexes. He bashed up Samuel Peter with shocking ease considering the length of time he was out of the ring and easily beat the clever if overweight Juan Carlos Gomez. However Peter didnt seem to have his heart in it and you wonder as Gomez had been a sparring partner of Vitali's in the past, whether he knew he couldnt win once the first bell had sounded. I expect Vitali too once again fight in this similar style as if one thing both Klitschko's have shown over the years is the ability to neutralize a shorter opponent.

As for Arreola, the jury is out in most peoples minds as to how good he actually is. He is quite a big heavyweight himself although i feel his official height of 6ft 4 inches maybe stretching things a little. Also as most heavyweights are nowadays he seems to be carrying quite a bit of extra weight, normally weighing in between 240 and 255lbs ( although for a stretch in 2007 he came in around the low 230's ). He carries a great looking record of 27-0 (24 ) into the ring and was a good amateur although mostly as a light heavyweight. In his most recent fights, he looked impressive when halting Chazz Witherspoon ( although ruled a DQ ), wild when stopping giant Travis Walker ( being dropped in the process himself ) and pretty good again when fighting the faded Jameel McCline last time out. Arreola fights in an agressive manner and is not afraid to mix it up. His chin looks pretty good, he was dropped against Walker but Walker has a reputation as a big puncher and his best shot only dropped Arreola to one knee. Interestingly Arreola has stopped several people in the 7th and 8th rounds indicating a decent stamina.

Arreolas best chance of winning to me is to go for broke. I have never really seen anyone try to really go at a Klitschko ( bar maybe Corrie Sanders in his fights with the Klitschko's ), but i have definately never seen anyone outbox a Klitschko. Even Lennox Lewis struggled against Vitali. Instead boxers who try to stay out of range and box against Vitali tend to get worn down and stopped late or soundly outpointed.

Klitschko has never been decked as a pro but is 37 years old now. All fighters can grow old quickly and at heavyweight they can suddenly go. I feel if Arreola stays on the outside he gets worn down at a quicker rate than Vitali. I feel he should just lets his shots go and with some of his big punches coming from wild angles he could surprise Vitali. Will he go for this strategy? I really dont know but if he does we could be in for a truly good matchup, something we havent said very often about heavyweight title fights in the past 10 years or so.

Prediction?- I dont think Arreola will commit to all out attack so i feel Vitali will establish his jab and other punches and stop a bloodied Arreola in 6 to 8 rounds

Berto vs Mosley in the works.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaffer is travelling to New York today to meet with Lou DiBella and HBO to try and finalise a fight between Shane Mosley and Andre Berto for the 5th December. Negotitiations broke down a few weeks ago over money.

The fight would be for Berto's WBC belt and Mosley's WBA belt. The problem with negotiations are that Mosley is still the big draw so will undoubtably want more money. Berto currently unbeaten in 25 fights has never been in with a true world class fighter like Mosley, but at 37 will Sugar Shane's skills be fading enough for the ambitious Berto to pull off a win? Also being discussed is a possible fight between Bernard Hopkins and Tomasz Adamek in January.

Juan Manuel Marquez Finally Attains Long-Deserved Glory.

pbf-vs-jmm.jpg

There is no question that for the past couple of years Marquez has been chasing Mayweather. Marquez is moving up in weight after having competed at 122, 126, 130, and twice at 135. Marquez is considered to be one of the very best technical fighters in the game today.
Everything Marquez does, he does extremely well. He throws combinations -- digging deep to the body. Marquez is simply a brilliant and ferocious boxer and is a very consistent fighter. Marquez will be put to the test when he meets Mayweather.

“It's a very hard fight, but mentally I'm preparing myself to win and I feel I can beat Mayweather,” Marquez commented.

Marquez, who turns 35 on August 23 stated: “Winning will be the best gift of my life. I'm preparing myself and I'm putting all the ingredients together so I can beat Mayweather. I'm getting ready for the best Mayweather ever. I'm not thinking about his retirement. I'm getting ready for the best guy possible...the best fighter in the world.”

Marquez’ Hall of Fame career consists of a number of highlights and lots of action. Marquez has won 8 of his last 11 fights (8-2-1, 4 KOs). His only losses were controversial decisions to Pacquiao (robbery) and WBA featherweight champion Chris John (robbery).

Marquez also fought Pacquiao to a controversial draw in 2004. Marquez survived three knockdowns in the first round, but boxed beautifully for the remainder of the bout to escape with a draw.

He's coming off perhaps two of the most exciting fights of his career as he became the only fighter to stop Joel Casamayor (TKO 11) last year and Juan Diaz (TKO 9) in February.
Following the Diaz bout, Marquez unified the WBO/WBA lightweight championships and is ready to move up in weight for perhaps the biggest challenge of his career.

Marquez is certainly the underdog, but doesn’t seem to mind at all.

“I think that life is full of surprises” Marquez added. “This is what motivates me. This is what makes me train hard. When I wake up in the morning, it makes me want to train hard, run faster and longer.”

Money May in training.

MARQUEZ: "I KNOW WHERE HE'S BEEN HURT AND I'M GOING FOR IT!"
Mexico City, Mex. (July 23) -Reports out of Mexico City, where five-time World Champion Juan Manuel Marquez is back in training for his scheduled September 19 bout (at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View®) against Floyd Mayweather (Mayweather vs. Marquez "Number One/Numero Uno"), confirm that Marquez is bigger, stronger and punching "to the body" harder than ever as he pushes his training regime to new heights in preparation for his ultimate challenge against Mayweather.

Eyewitnesses say it is evident that not only is Marquez bigger, but his training includes a special focus on body work and technique as he looks to defeat the undefeated Mayweather, a six-time World Champion in five weight divisions.

"I know where he's been hurt and I'm going for it," said Marquez. "He is vulnerable now and I will take advantage of his weakness with a body attack that emphasizes two things-the right and the left."

Another testament to this new resolve are his grueling two-hour runs in the mountains of Nevado de Toluca at a staggering elevation of 13,500 feet.

"The mountain is a magic place and gives me the freedom to visualize the night of the fight and how I am going to beat him," said Marquez. "It is also building my endurance, making my legs stronger and building muscle across my whole body."

Marquez has also been adding weight as he works through technique in training.

Marquez finished, "I've been working gradually with the extra weight, which is going to be pure muscle and make me stronger than ever by the time I step in the ring September 19. Mayweather is going to be the first one to feel the difference."

Mayweather Takes IT to MMA and Puts Down Pacman's Promoter

Floyd Mayweather Jr. might not be talking much about the rib injury that delayed his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, but that seems like the only topic not up for discussion.

In a recent interview with CBSSports.com, “Pretty Boy Floyd” rapped on Marquez and Pacquiao, and took a monster shot at mixed martial arts, saying that the sport which his Sept. 19 fight vs. Marquez is competing head-to-head against (UFC 103 is in Dallas the same night) is for “beer drinkers, boxing is for everybody.”

“You can’t take my shoes off, and take my shirt off and throw me in a cage. You do that with animals, you don’t do that with humans,” said a bold Mayweather. “It takes true skills to be in the sport of boxing.”

While Mayweather probably should have stopped his brash statements there — considering many of the MMA fans he was offending probably helped him become boxing’s “pay-per-view king” by purchasing his blockbuster fights — he didn’t, saying MMA was created by white fighters who couldn’t cut it in the ring.

"In boxing, we know who's dominating. Black fighters and Hispanic fighters is dominating in this sport,” Mayweather continued. “And this is not a racial statement but there's no white fighters in boxing that's dominating, so they had to go to something else and start something new."

When the subject turned to a much-anticipated match with Manny Pacquiao (whose fight against Miguel Cotto is in November), Mayweather said the Filipino superstar would have to become his own boss before he could consider a bout.

“Everybody wants to see the Pacquiao fight, but it doesn’t work like that. Pacquiao isn’t his own boss and he’s giving up 27 percent of his money to Bob Arum,” Mayweather said. “Once he becomes his own boss, then we can talk. If he’s not his own boss I ain’t got nothing to say to him.”

But just in case he does, Mayweather says you know where to find him.

“It’s not hard to find me. Everybody know I’m in Las Vegas,” he said. “Just look for the biggest mansion and the prettiest Rolls-Royce — that’s me.”:lol::lol::lol:

My Five Reasons Miguel Cotto Will Defeat Manny Pacquiao

Miguel Cotto is an underdog against Manny Pacquiao. Many folks consider him to be tarnished, damaged goods in the ring. He has not looked good in has last two major fights, against Margarito and Clottey. He was brutally beaten by Margarito with illegal plaster wrapped hands, and barely survived to pull out a win against Clottey. He has shown a potential for cuts, and has looked very beatable lately.

With all that said, Cotto still has a excellent chance of defeating Manny Pacquiao. Here are five reasons why:

1. Punching Power

Miguel Cotto will pack arguably the biggest punch Pacquiao has ever faced. While some would argue it was De La Hoya, Cotto is very heavy handed. While not scoring knockouts at the top level at 147, Cotto steamrolled opponents at 140. Pacquiao is not a natural welterweight, and there are questions as to whether or not he can take Cotto’s punch.

For Cotto to defeat Pacquiao, he will have to accomplish something Pacquiao’s last two opponents did not. He will actually have to land his shots. If he can find a way to hit Pacquiao, the scope of the fight will change dramatically for him.

2. Chin

Cotto is a rather large welterweight. He has shown he can take good punches from natural welterweights. He took the best shots Zab Judah and Shane Mosley had to offer. He stood in against Sugar for twelve rounds. If he can take Pacquiao’s punch, his chances go up dramatically.

3. Size

Now there is majority agreement here that size will not play a major factor in this fight. Since this fight will be at a catchweight of 145, neither fighter should have much of an advantage.

The truth is Cotto is a naturally bigger man. He is a rather large welterweight, and puts on significant weight the day of the fight. This advantage will come into play for him if he can use his size to lean on Pacquiao on the ropes, or muscle him.

4. Body Punching

This point is absolutely the key to the fight. If Cotto has any chance at pulling off the mild upset, he will have to get to the body. Cotto is a fearsome body puncher, and when dedicated, is hard to deter. If he makes a solid commitment to the body, it will be interesting to see how Pacquiao responds.

Cotto should look for every available opportunity to dig into Pacquiao’s ribs. If he is unable to do so with any success, he stands little chance of defeating the pound for pound champion.

5. Ring Generalship

Cotto is an underrated boxer. He can box well from the outside, as well as fight on the inside. He makes good in-fight adjustments. In this fight, he will need to cut the ring off without taking too much damage. Cotto will need to corner the faster Pacquiao, and make him pay once on the inside.

If Cotto can rinse and repeat that strategy early on, he can start headhunting in the later rounds. A commitment to the body early, a left hook late, and we have the makings of an upset on our hands.

Miguel Cotto Confident of Knocking Manny Pacquiao Off

WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto is very confident as he begins the first phase of his training camp for the November 14 bout with Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach is predicting a knockout win for his side. He doesn't see Cotto being able to deal with Pacquiao's speed. Cotto is not paying attention to anything that Roach says. He continues to feel that Pacquiao's two biggest wins have been overhyped because Oscar De La Hoya was weight drained and Ricky Hatton was made to order.

"At the end of the day, Freddie Roach, all he can do is try to prepare Pacquiao to beat Miguel Cotto. I am not De La Hoya, who was caught at the end of his career, lost all of that weight and they took advantage of it. I am not Ricky Hatton who had an overrated career and had no defense. [Pacquiao's] entire team, especially Freddie Roach, knows what Miguel Cotto is capable of doing in the ring," Cotto told El Nuevo Dia.

Cotto says Roach likes to trash talk with the teams of Pacquiao's opponents but there will be no trash talking in this fight. Cotto plans to keep it civil and let his fists do the talking on fight night.

"That has always been Freddie Roach's problem. He likes to be in that kind of role but here he doesn't have to be. We have a lot of professionalism and plan to show it," Cotto said.

That ninja said "overrated career". ouch.

Marquez/Mayweather: Who Do We Really Want to Win?

It is a wonderful time to be a boxing fan.
It truly is a joy to have my co-workers and other random people show interest in the pugilistic arts. I have felt for some time that being a fan of boxing has been my dirty little secret. In search of other boxing fanatics I was relegated to boxing forums and ironically, the boxers themselves. Now, I can speak of boxing in public without others mocking me for following a dead sport. A large part of the recent surge in popularity has come as a rare benefit of the economic downturn. Fighters are forced to face the biggest and best, in and around their weight-classes, to receive the highest financial rewards. The way things used to be - and the way they should continue. Fighters like Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Paul Williams, Timothy Bradley, and Juan Manuel Marquez have done just that and their popularity and bank accounts have grown exponentially as a result.

No one can dispute the skill of Floyd Mayweather Jr. In fact that is a big part of why his detractors are so vocal. Floyd should be mentioned with the likes of Harry Greb, Willie Pep, and Pernell Whitaker in terms of boxing skill. And in another era he would be better accepted for them. In this era, they are the reason we still watch him.

The one gripe on Mayweather has been his lack of desire to face all of the top contenders in or near his weight class and for merely boxing his way to victory instead of fighting his way to the end. To be honest, this isn’t a completely fair judgment. Floyd fought the best at 135lbs outside of Joel Casamayor and he dominated his foes. Many believe he lost his first fight with Jose Luis Castillo, but it was a close bout and could’ve gone either way. The second go around between the two saw Mayweather dictate the fight from the onset and there was no doubt who was the victor at the end of the day.

The true money and fame for Floyd came at 147lbs. The welterweight division was loaded with talent and big names. Men like Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Zab Judah, Paul Williams, Joshua Clottey, and Shane Mosley made their living at that weight. Of those names, Floyd only fought Judah and that was after Zab had lost the welterweight crown to Carlos Baldomir. Mayweather defeated Judah in what was actually a stern test that was filled with controversy resulting from low blows and trainer fisticuffs. That fight preceded a whooping that Floyd put on Baldomir to capture the WBC welterweight title that we never saw him defend.

There were so many good opponents and fights to be had; only to be denied by ego that was masked as greed. As good or great as Floyd Mayweather Jr. was/is, he is even more frustrating.

Floyd is facing off against Marquez July 18th. He is attempting to recapture his throne and stake his claim as the sports best. Floyd told Brian Kenny that he never relinquished his top spot, but retirement means otherwise. Juan Manuel Marquez is a worthy opponent for someone of Floyd’s caliber, but the disparity in weight has some people asking why this fight is taking place. Marquez is the 135lb champion and as he has showed in numerous fights, including his two phenomenal wars with Pacquiao, that he is willing to give it his all against any who dare to oppose him. I don’t give too much credence to the weight issue, when you’re as smart a fighter as Juan with the warrior mentality he possesses, then weight is an obstacle and not a barrier.

With all this said being said, what if Marquez won? I mean realistically, what would happen in the boxing world if “El Dinamita” cashed out “Money Mayweather?” The arguments of whether Marquez is worthy of the hall-of-fame would be put to rest. A third bout with Manny Pacquiao would be of utmost importance and relativity. The search for the next American superstar would begin; with Chad Dawson, Paul Williams, and Kelly Pavlik being the leading men.

I bet you the sport would gain a greater measure of credibility amongst the skeptical mainstream audience. Floyd would then be able to focus on more pressing measures, like, the welterweight division. His demand, monetarily, would be forced to come down and the likeliness of bouts with fighters like Andre Berto, Miguel Cotto, and Paul Williams could be feasible. Mayweather fans might actually respect fans of other fighters, and Mayweather “haters” could finally respect the great talent of the man they revile so much.

However, we could possibly lose one of the brightest stars to illuminate the boxing landscape in many years. The entire Mayweather family has disturbingly entertained us for so long, and Floyd, despite the persona he created, is actually a very generous man when it comes to his community. For as great a fighter as Juan Manuel Marquez is, he can’t bring the same type of personality that Floyd can to the media table and is unable to attract a large portion of interest from the American consumer like Floyd can.

Remember this, the average Joe still loves to watch every move Mike Tyson makes. They don’t love him for the fighter he really was, but the personality that he became. That is what attracts the average fan to Mayweather.

There are a lot more pros than cons for the sport if Mayweather loses, but is that the utopia we really want? I prefer that fighters fight for legacy more than a paycheck, but I understand that money is the only real reason any of us do anything. So my perfect world of Marquez winning (how unrealistic it is) is right for me, it might not be the best for you or the rest of the sport. In short time we will see where Floyd takes all of us, hopefully to places a skeptic like me could never dream of Floyd going.

Mayweather Continues To Trash Pacquiao and Cotto

By Mark Vester

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back on the attack. This time he took aim at both Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. Mayweather, during an interview with ******, made himself look silly by telling the outlet that he stands make more money against Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19 - than Pacquiao and Cotto will make combined when they face each other on November 14. A little hard to believe. In the same interview, Mayweather said there was $300 million sitting in his bank account. A few months ago there were numerous reports that Mayweather flew to Florida to ask Don King to borrow some money. Mayweather did not deny the meeting but never discussed the details.

"Before I heard about Manny Pacquiao I was the champion. When Cotto came into the game, I was the champion. I think they are both good fighters. When you are in the check cashing business and being the champ, they need to call out my name. I don’t have to call out theirs. I am making as much as both Cotto and Pacman in this one fight. Manny Pacquiao has the worst deal in boxing. He is giving up 27% of his money. Floyd keeps it all," Mayweather Jr. said.

Mayweather then went on to attack the records of Cotto and Pacquiao. He said the black community needs to support him in the same manner that Cotto and Pacquiao are supported by their countries.

"I am the first to knock Ricky Hatton out. I knocked him out with 10 ounce gloves on, Pac fought him with 8 ounce gloves. I laid the blueprint on how to beat Hatton. Cotto has been knocked out before and Pacquiao has been knocked out, as well as out boxed by Marquez and Morales. Both of them guys will get knocked out by Floyd. Both Cotto, and Pacman’s people stand behind them. The black community should stand behind me! We need to stick together. I am a one man army that will fight for all of us," Mayweather Jr. said.

Imo Floyd has hit a low point, the fact that he needs to open his mouth about Cotto(a guy he refused to fight) and Pacman(a guy he says he won't fight) is ridiculous. This dude is turning out to be just an attention whore. Running around trashing boxers while most of the boxing community trashes him He's starting to sound like the Joe Budden of the boxing community.:smh:
1.jpg

Commentary from a waiter who works a spot that Floyd frequently visits:
"i was a huge fan but after dealing with the dickhead mayweather at work over and over again i hope jmm puts that loud mouth cant tip a nuggah a dollar ass out.":lol::smh:Floyd's that short-stacked right now? This cat can't even make it drizzle in a club right now?:smh:

Pacquiao's Ariza Gives Praise To Cotto's Landman
By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao’s conditioning guru Alex Ariza who helped Pacquiao get into the best shape of his career as evidenced in his devastating performances against David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton says Miguel Cotto’s conditioning expert Phil Landman “is the real deal.”

Landman who is expected to join Cotto’s training camp in Puerto Rico on August 22 has been credited with members of the WBO welterweight champion’s inner circle as someone who has become a key component of the success of Cotto who is always in excellent shape when he enters the ring.

Ariza told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that Cotto is “always in good shape and I think Phil Landman deserves the credit for that.”

At the same time Ariza said in relation to Pacquiao, “at my end of the conditioning I guess I’ll have my work cut out for me.”

While there has been some concern over Pacquiao’s hectic schedule shooting movies, television shows, endorsements and other activities while Cotto is already in training camp, Ariza didn’t appear to be too concerned.

Ariza said if it was any other fighter he’d be really worried but “Manny is such a really tough phenom when it comes to training. He is a phenomenal athlete. His recovery is something and once he gets in it, he’s in it a hundred percent.”

The conditioning guru said “maybe this is his way of getting it all out of his system and getting ready to come back and do the work. He knows what’s in store for him as far as all the work that we have to do.”

Ariza said Cotto is a much tougher fighter than De La Hoya or Hatton and believes he will be “really prepared for this fight” which is scheduled at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 14.

However, Ariza pointed out that “the Manny Pacquiao that came in to fight Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao that definitely came in to fight Ricky Hatton is a really tough fighter too. An in-shape and trained Manny Pacquiao is really going to be unbeatable.”

As of now there’s no word on where Pacquiao will eventually train with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum reportedly pushing for the Bahamas, trainer Freddie Roach preferring Baguio City to any other site in the Philippines and others suggesting Mexico which will help keep the so-called LA Boys who are considered a ditraction, away from Pacquiao since some of them are in the US illegally and cannot get visas to travel to Mexico.

Marquez/Escobedo Alliance For Mayweather/Katsidis

By Mark Vester

Juan Manuel Marquez and Vicente Escobedo will form an alliance as they plan to prevail for Mexico on September 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The two fighters plan to make their countrymen proud during a weekend when Mexican Independence Day will be celebrated.

Marquez and Escobedo will both be trained by Nacho Beristain in Mexico. Marquez faces the biggest challenge of his career when he meets Floyd Mayweather Jr. at a catch-weight of 144-pounds. Escobedo will take on his most dangerous opponent in former champion Michael Katsidis. The two will work together under Nacho to come back home as the victors. Katsidis-Escobedo will be for the interim-WBO lightweight title.

"They just told me that I am going to fight for a championship and it's like a double dream for me because this is my first opportunity for a title and to fight by the side of Marquez on the most important weekend in Mexican boxing is simply exciting," Escobedo said to The Record.

"I know that Katsidis is a good fighter, but I feel this is my moment. I have learned a lot in my last few fights and I believe that I have what it takes to win. That it is why I asked for this fight and Oscar De La Hoya gave it to me."

Escobedo/Katsidis is a fight I've been wanting to see - gonna be some good action in that one. Zab is supposed to be fighting Hatton's brother on the undercard also - damm Zab:smh:

just teasin ya :D

Now, on to the boxing articles...The Klitschko-Arreola fight looks on paper to be action packed, but only after the first few rounds. Chris will have to go all out on this one, because he will not be able to outbox Vitali. If Chris can't take him out or knock him down within the first 5 rounds, then Vitali will cruise towards a win...The weight factor of Chris will be something to pay attention to also...He'll lose speed if he goes up to the 245-250 range, but he will be able to take punches to the chin (and deliver bigger ones) if he keeps the weight.

Berto-Mosley is an interesting fight, and it is one not to look past. Yes, Shane is disappointed that he didn't get the big money fight that he wanted, but with fighting Berto, he can get one step closer to once again being the best in the 147 pound division. However, the fact that he did not get what he wanted may sway his momentum in this fight with Berto...But a reminder of splitting with Jin may get him back in focus :D

I'll get into some of the other stuff later...I need to check out this Escobedo guy that you mentioned, Merce...Do you think he can take Katsidis? Or better yet, could we see a fight similar to Katsidis-Casamayor?

*Starts searching for Escobedo fight*

I'll be right back.

Ok found something for you. Escobedo is kind of like a young Oscar(looks like him too) with less speed but more discipline. But he is going to have his hands full with Katsidis all out syle. He fights a lil too straight up. It'll either be a brawl if Mike can get Vicente to war with him or Katsidis will be outboxed like he was against Diaz. Check him out

Thanks, I'm about to watch it in a minute...

(Mayweather) “It’s not hard to find me. Everybody know I’m in Las Vegas,” he said. “Just look for the biggest mansion and the prettiest Rolls-Royce — that’s me.”

Aight....that same mansion that got burglarized earlier this year? My fam called me to tell me that one :D :D

That's why he might be short stacked ;);)

Paul+Williams+v+Winky+Wright+mETmm7k7vjCl.jpg

Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams agreed to terms Tuesday night for an Oct. 3 fight at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., Top Rank president Todd duBoef told ESPN.com.

DuBoef, Pavlik's promoter, and Dan Goossen, Williams' promoter, had been in heavy negotiations for the past few weeks, and at times it looked like the fight would not happen.

However, with time running out, HBO (which will televise the bout) growing impatient and Top Rank beginning to more seriously explore other alternatives -- Winky Wright and Peter Manfredo the most prominent -- duBoef and Goossen made a deal.

"Goossen and I have agreed to all terms and we are going to contract for the fight," duBoef said. "We look forward to a formal announcement."

Said Goossen, "I'm just happy that we've finally come to terms and gotten this resolved. Now we can move forward."

A news conference is being planned for next Tuesday in New York.

Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs) will be making the third defense of his unified titles, which he won via dramatic seventh-round knockout against Jermain Taylor in September 2007. He also beat Taylor in a rematch and lost a decision to Bernard Hopkins in nontitle bouts since becoming champion.

Williams (37-1, 27 KOs), a former two-time welterweight titlist, holds an interim junior middleweight belt. But he has been willing to fight at middleweight, junior middleweight and welterweight in an effort to land major fights. He made a big statement at middleweight in April when he outclassed Wright in a lopsided decision.

Dan Rafael is ESPN.com's boxing writer.

Paul will jab Pavlik to death, fam....It won't be that close unless Paul lets it be that way...Pav is good, but that Hopkins fight exposed him badly on his weaknesses...

I did see the fight that you just uploaded, and from what I see, this guy can take Katsidis as long as he doesn't get lured into the brawl that you were talking about...He seems like a good counterpuncher, given what he did to Hernandez by catching him twice while going back.

Now as I have some other parts of your previous posts to go over (notably the Cotto/Pac one), I pose a question to you, merce (and others who would like to chime in)....Who do you favor in the super middleweight tourney?

I might get flamed for this by some of the pro-black cats, but I really try to stay away from color when judging fighters. I look for heart and skill. With that being said I think Kessler has the best chance of taking that tourney. Now let me explain - He's experienced in big fights and will not wilt under the spotlight like maybe Dirrel or Ward due to inexperience, he's got a fine chin, good skills and he's a very good fighter even if Calzaghe did pattycake him to death. But his chin held up to a beast like Andrade and he was able to keep the pressure off him with some pinpoint counter punching, movement defense and footwork that surprised the fuck outta me. Even against Calzaghe, I'm convinced that with a better plan, he'd have beaten Calzaghe, he's a better fighter.

Ward is good, fast and strong but he has a tendency to fight flat footed, plod and not use his legs enuff. Dirrel I think has the brightest future of the bunch but is just too green and has never been in the spotlight in packed stadiums with a big time fight. But those two are the most physically gifted of the bunch. But if they end up fighting I'm almost certain it will be boring as their speed and styles negate each other, and the inside knowledge they have about one another (being that they were Olympic teammates) would be a factor too.

Abraham and Froch are beasts but not boxers. They always have a chance to win by KO but their defenses are seriously lacking and they don't possess nearly the skills of the other guys in the tourney, but they have heart and serious firepower. We all know Jermain Taylor is a damm good all around fighter for ten rounds, it's always been his biggest problem so he'll have to beat whoever he faces by KO to stay alive in this tourney. God help him if he has to face a guy like Abraham who'll keep coming and landing whether he's getting fucked up or not.

So for me, that leaves the most well rounded of the fighters who is Kessler. I also think he's underrated, because the only thing Americans have ever seen from him is his loss to Calzaghe but shit B-Hop has one of those too. He's a very good boxer, good power, good technical skills, great jab, I just wish he'd move his head a little more against fast handed guys like Dirrel or Ward. But like I said he is a hell of a counter puncher which means he has great timing, and great timing can negate speed when the skills are there as well. Crazy as it sounds I'm rolling with Mikkel Kessler. I can't believe I just said that shit...

Well if that's the case, then get ready for this...........

I'd favor NONE of the Black fighters against the others in this one....

And while I do agree with you completely with Kessler being the favorite, I have a feeling that Froch could come out of this one as the victor. Talk about heart, this dude has it and more...Froch/Abraham or Froch/Kessler will be blockbuster fights...any matchup with those other 3 won't be as good...

I wish that Green and/or Bute were in this tourney intead of Taylor and Ward...

 Yeah, Froch is a beast but if he ends up fighting Kessler, I'd favor Mikkel by UD unless Carl lands something fight-changing, which is possible given his power, endurance and heart.
Very true about Green or Bute but the promoters were probably thinking that Taylor and Ward have a bit more marquis value.

when is that MW tourney.....?

and didn't Pavlik get upset because he wasn't invited....I thoght he wasn't invited beacuase he is signed to HBO and this tourney is on Showtime.....

and merce77 I'm a huge MMA fan too.....but I love Boxing...

I've pretty much changed my tune about MMA. I'm never going to believe it's better than boxing but for some reason when there's no boxing around I watch MMA. Them dudes have mad skill and physical talent, I respect them. Put it this way since UFC #96, I've watched all their ppv cards. I like it, will watch it, respect their talents but it'll never, to me at least, be on the level of boxing. BTW, Pavlik is under contract with HBO, I think that was more the reason why he wasn't invited.

Pav is under HBO, but he's also a middleweight (still Ring champ) and he got dusted by BHop in that class, so it wouldn't be a good idea to jump in that tourney if I were him.

And it starts Oct. 17th with Abraham fighting Taylor and Froch fighting Direll...
