Yo good to see you back on this thread, Merce....I was getting worried that you did go out and put a hit on Margarito :D

Those fights on Saturday caught my interest two different ways. On one side, Forrest looked better than he has been since his shoulder surgery against Mora (and was close to getting a KO), and then seeing Marquez actually KO Casamayor after basically a slow start...Plus that was the first time Joel has been KOed. There needs to be a way that the Oscar/Pac fight should be scrapped so that JMM gets another shot at Pacquaio. Marquez looked very good.

On the other hand, Nate Campbell took a hit when his opponent Joan Guzman couldn't make weight and then the bout was canceled. Now the man with the most belts in the division will not have a fight this year most likely, and could possibly wait out for a big fight in the division with a Marquez-Diaz fight being rumored to happen at the first quarter of 09.

To be honest, the Pac/Oscar fight getting made really pushed me over the edge yo, this is some bullshit, Oscar is on my shit list along with Floyd now. I mean Margarito EARNED a shot against Oscar, to make the big bucks and Oscar did something uncharecteristic and just straight bypassed Margs. THAT SHIT ISN'T RIGHT. And to fight Pacman no less. I would've givn him a little more leeway if he said no to Margs and stayed at 154 and fought Vernon(who looked great on Saturday btw) or Mora, but PACMAN?????? C'mon man. Anyway, it's going to be a great fall man, lots of good fights fnally getting made, it's exciting. Hopefully we'll get to see Margs rematch with either Clottey or Williams. If he fights Clottey I gotta go with Josh because of the BX thing, and the fact that he was soundly beating Margs before the hand injury, but I really wat to see Margs rematch with Williams. The way Paul looked in his last fight and the way Margs stepped to the plate against Cotto - it'll make for fireworks this time around I think.

Oh and actually Marquez gave the first couple rounds to Casamayor per Beristains instructions. I heard Nacho tell Juan Manuel in the corner after the first round that they were going to give Casa the first few and then come on strong late, the way it worked out they both look like geniuses.:) Which Diaz is Marquez going to fight? I hope you mean Juan and not David.:lol:

Really, I thought Marquez won both fights with Pac, if anything it should be Manny chasing down Marquez but that's boxing nowadays, the almighty dollar ALWAYS wins.

What a shame about Nate not being able to show his stuff against a highly skilled dude like Joan. Nate has to have the worst luck in the division, but that's what he gets for looking so good against Diaz, everyone is scared of him now, he's become the dark horse, the spoiler, and everyone including JM Marquez better be ready for that dude, I think he's gonna turn into the B-Hop of the lightweight division, fighting at an elite level into his forties.:lol:. It's good to be back tho. BTW what do you guys really think about this PAvlik/Bhop fight?
 
Sugar" Shane Mosley: "Ricardo Mayorga is a step to the next fight that I want, which is Antonio Margarito!

There's no question that "Sugar" Shane Mosley is a future hall of famer. Having won World Championships in three divisions as well as being the top fighter in the world pound for pound at one point will certainly not leave any doubt. So what's left to prove? Plenty, if you have the type of motor that Mosley does.

On Saturday, September 27th from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, and broadcast on HBO, Mosley (44-5, 37 KO's), ranked #1 by the WBO, #4 by the IBF, and #6 by the WBA in the welterweight division will move back up to the Jr. Middleweight division to battle the WBA #2 ranked and WBC #3 ranked former two division World Champion, Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga (29-6-1, 23 KO's).

Mosley is coming off a lengthy layoff, nearly 10½ months, after his matchup with Zab Judah that was scheduled over the summer was called off when Judah was injured while preparing for the bout. The time off, according to Mosley, has actually helped. "I'm a veteran fighter, and I've been around the game a long time. If anything it (the layoff) helped me because I got a chance to stay in the gym and train with some really good southpaws. I think it kept me in shape and kept me sharp and now I'm going to be sharp for this fight as well," explained Mosley.

Mayorga, known for his pre-fight antics, has been tamer than usual for this fight. "He's taking this fight serious and not clowning around as much. I think he has a lot of respect for me as I do with him. He's said a little bit here and there but it hasn't been as much. I care about the night of the fight and lacing them up and fighting," Mosley said.

Even though Mayorga has a record of just 3-3 over his last six fights, Mosley knows that Mayorga is still a dangerous opponent. "Ricardo Mayorga does a lot of crazy things. You never know what can happen in the ring. Vargas found out that you can be on the canvas. I have to watch out, being that I'm not really a 154 pounder. He might be a lot bigger than me too, so I have to watch out for that. I expect for him to give his 100% all and throw the kitchen sink at me. Oscar told me that he does have very heavy hands and he's dangerous. He comes out there to fight," stated Mosley.

Mosley however, is confident the outcome will be in his favor. "I think we'll have a pretty interesting fight, at least for the first couple of rounds."

Mosley is trained by his father Jack Mosley. Things have not always been smooth between the two, which led to an amicable split for a few fights, but the two worked everything out and have been working together again since. "I wouldn't say (things are) better than ever, but things are great. He's doing a fantastic job of training me. The whole team as well. Anthony Randolph, my camp coordinator, he's definitely doing a great job in making sure things run smoothly. My father leading the way is a great thing," Mosley suggested.

The fight against Mayorga is just the beginning of what Mosley hopes is a statement as his career starts to wind down. "The goal is to fight the best guys out there so that the people and the fans can recognize me as one of the best fighters of this era. I still have a fire. Maybe in three or four years I'll retire," said Mosley. "I'm the type of guy that likes to fight the best guys out there. Ricardo Mayorga is a step to the next fight that I want, which is Antonio Margarito!"

Margarito is considered the best welterweight in the world right now, but Mosley feels his boxing skills would be the difference in a potential showdown. "Margarito can be out boxed and I can box and I can punch. I can stay in the pocket and punch with him too. I think the speed will be a big factor. Margarito is a true champion and a true warrior who will fight anyone. I think it's a fight that everyone would like to see," suggested Mosley.

With a potential fight against Margarito in the future, there is going to be plenty of boxing fans rooting for "Sugar" Shane to become victorious against Mayorga. Let's hope that Shane is not already preparing himself for that future showdown.
 
B-Hop: I'll expose Kelly like I did Felix

Bernard Hopkins believes he will expose Kelly Pavlik as a one-dimensional fighter when the two meet in Atlantic City on October 18, live on Setanta Sports.

Hopkins surprised many by continuing his career against the unbeaten WBC/WBO middleweight champion in the catch-weight bout.

The Executioner insists he will use Pavlik's skills against him, just as he did against Felix Trinidad in his middleweight unification bout in 2001.

"Come October 18 you're going to see craftsmanship at his best," Trinidad told Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour.

"Styles make fights. When you have a guy who fights coming forward like Kelly Pavlik and you've got a counter-puncher like Bernard Hopkins, it's a little different from Roy Jones and Joe Calzaghe.

"I'm going to fight him with intelligence, with crafsmanship and experience and unless he's learning something new, he's going to fight as he has his last 34 opponents with 30 knockouts. You're not going to change something that's working.

"My plan is to take what he does best and use it against him.

"Do remember about the awesome left hook Felix Trinidad had when he was undefeated. What happened to that left hook?

"When a guy has a bullet in the chamber and he has one and he doesn't have the other seven. I don't know what kind of gun he has.

"With anyone else he might not be in trouble. With Bernard Hopkins you need more than one bullet in the chamber.

"That's what the outcome is going to show the world.

"They'll say: 'Wait a minute, did he just systematically take his most important weapon and use it against him?'"



I really hope he beats Kelly but as old and tired as he looked against Joe Calzaghe, I'm going to have to doubt this statement until I see it happen. And if it goes to decision, Hopkins better have beaten him DECISIVELY, or else they'll give the white boy the benefit of the doubt.

In front of a packed Montreal crowd, Bute, a Romanian based in Montreal, dominated the majority of the rounds landing a lot of clean shots against the iron willed and chinned Andrade. When he tried to mount an offense, Lorenzo was repeatedly held by the champion. Surprising to some, expected by cynics, hometown referee Marlon Wright only warned Bute once in round 11. Going into the 12th and final stanza, knowing his only chance for a victory was a knockout, Andrade went for it. The champion who at this point was extremely fatigued, was essentially beaten around the ring for most of the round, trying to survive the onslaught. To Andrade’s credit he was able to rally and score a knockdown with about five seconds left. This is where the controversy (or bull s*it) begins.

LONGER COUNT THAN TUNNEY-DEMPSEY?

As a lifeless Bute slumped to the floor, the referee turned to warn Andrade for not being in the neutral corner. Replays show that the Mexican was in the corner. This essentially delayed the count several seconds. Finally when the referee stopped scolding Andrade, he then after possibly 15 seconds turns around and begins the count at about five. Bute had already risen from the canvas at this point. Wright counts to nine, and then the fight ends with Bute winning wide unanimous decision. In retrospect the referee gave Bute possibly a total of 20 seconds to recover.

THIS WAS CRIMINAL FOLKS!

This is another example of hometown cooking of the worst kind. It’s a shame as Librado’s dream of being world champion was taken away from him by shameful officiating. Wright's response after the fight on why the count was delayed was disgraceful. “Andrade cost himself a knockout by leaving the corner. If he hadn’t left the corner he would have won by knockout...Bute would not have got up in time.”

Long count? If Bute was practically as inept as it is described here, the fight could have been stopped....I'll have to check this fight out...
 
Actually the most beef I had with it was that Bute got destroyed in those final 20 seconds. No strength,no energy,nothing. I was certain that Andrade's huge right that decked Bute would warrant an immediate stoppage....But nope...The Montreal ref decided to give him a count. Halfway through the count, the ref decides to turn around and lecture Andrade to stay into the neutral corner---Where Andrade had always been! Bute had groggily risen from the canvas this whole time.

As you can see, Bute makes it up around the count of 7, but there wouldn't have been no complaints of a stoppage because of his unsteadiness.
Instead, the fuckin ref doesn't do his job by observing Bute and would rather kill time and save the town hero by carrying on a pointless conversation with Andrade.
 
Schaefer and Top Rank's Bob Arum continue discussing an Antonio Margarito-Shane Mosley welterweight title bout, which they want to televise on HBO on Jan. 24. "Schaefer wants to do the fight, and we want to do the fight," Arum said. "Shane is willing, but he wants to know how much money there is for him if he fights Margarito or Andre Berto. He'll fight either of them, but he wants the fight that will pay him the most money. So that's what he and Schaefer are discussing, and we are talking with HBO."


Said Schaefer: "I told Bob that Shane has narrowed the field to Margarito or Berto. I am having lunch on Tuesday with Shane and [his wife] Jin, and I will present them with two deals because I am also having conversations with Berto's promoter [Lou DiBella] and, of course [HBO's] Kery [Davis]. HBO would do either fight, so I'm running the numbers. Margarito is a more expensive fight than Berto, but you have a bigger gate with Margarito. Both are good fights. It will be Shane's pick. I will give him the facts, and he'll pick."
 
When ex-welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto returns to action in February for his first fight since a July TKO loss to Margarito, he'll face either former titleholder Kermit Cintron or Jesus Soto Karass, Arum said. Arum promotes Soto Karass and could make that fight easily. But he also has been talking to DiBella, Cintron's promoter, about a match between Puerto Ricans. Cintron would need to defeat Lovemore N'Dou Nov. 15. "If Kermit beats Lovemore, we'd love to make a fight with Cotto. Bob and I are talking," DiBella said. Arum is aiming for a June rematch if Cotto and Margarito win their early 2009 bouts.
 
Arum said junior welterweight titleholder Kendall Holt's rubber match with ex-titlist Ricardo Torres, scheduled for Dec. 13 (Showtime), will take place in Atlantic City, N.J. He said that he made a deal with Ken Condon, who handles boxing events for sponsor casino Caesars Atlantic City, for the bout to take place in the 3,000-seat arena upstairs at Boardwalk Hall. Torres stopped Holt in the 11th round in a wild first fight in 2007 in Colombia. Holt, from Paterson, N.J., won the title in July, going down twice before knocking Torres cold in their blazing 61-second rematch.
 
After four previous postponements, bantamweight titlist Joseph Agbeko (25-1, 22 KOs) of Ghana is scheduled to make his mandatory defense against Nicaragua's William Gonzalez (21-2, 19 KOs), promoter Don King announced. They're scheduled to meet Dec. 11 (Versus) on the undercard of cruiserweight titlist Steve Cunningham (21-1, 11 KOs) in a mandatory against Tomasz Adamek (35-1, 24 KOs) in Newark, N.J. The Agbeko-Gonzalez bout had been scheduled for Sept. 13 but was called off because Agbeko had malaria. He claimed a vacant belt in September 2007 but hasn't fought since.
 
Welterweight titlist Paul Williams, who fought his most recent bout at middleweight, will fight at junior middleweight against Verno Phillips on HBO's Nov. 29 "Boxing After Dark" at the new 11,000-seat Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. They'll meet for the WBO's vacant interim belt, so Phillips will either give up or be stripped of his IBF version of the title because it wouldn't approve the fight. Phillips had a mandatory looming against Cory Spinks (whom he beat for his title earlier this year), and Williams wasn't rated by the IBF because he holds a WBO title. Regardless, the fight is on after weeks of discussion. Opening the telecast, heavyweight Cristobal Arreola will face Travis Walker.
 
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer met with Shane Mosley this week to discuss his next fight and while Schaefer is still working out the economics, he said Mosley prefers to face welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito on Jan. 24 rather than titleholder Andre Berto, who was also in the running for the HBO fight. "We went through the numbers that I put together," Schaefer said. "Shane will fight anyone, but he does have a preference for Margarito, so I am continuing to work on it with [Top Rank promoter] Bob [Arum]." Said Arum: "HBO has come with some more money but now Schaefer has to deliver Shane and I have to meet with the Margarito people. But I assume it will get done." Schaefer and Arum have discussed Steven Luevano, Top Rank's featherweight titlist, facing Golden Boy's Rocky Juarez in the TV opener, either for Luevano's title or in a 128-pound catchweight bout. Arum said another possibility for the co-feature was Top Rank junior featherweight titlist Juan Manuel Lopez defending against Golden Boy bantamweight titlist Gerry Penalosa. HBO prefers Luevano-Juarez.
 
Top Rank and HBO are in discussions for split-site doubleheader on Feb. 21. Arum told ESPN.com that if the deal is worked out it would look like this: ex-welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto would return from his loss to Margarito to face either Kermit Cintron or Jose Soto Karass in Atlantic City, N.J., to be followed on the broadcast by Kelly Pavlik returning from his loss to Bernard Hopkins to defend the middleweight title against mandatory challenger Marco Antonio Rubio at the Chevy Center in his native Youngstown, Ohio. In each arena, the other bout would be shown live on big screens, Arum said. "There's conversation, but it's not a deal yet," Arum said. "But it would be a great night for boxing. HBO came up with the idea and I like it."
 
Promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN.com he is finalizing a deal to become the co-promoter of St. Louis junior middleweight Deandre Latimore (19-1, 16 KOs). The 23-year-old burst on the scene in June with an ESPN2-televised seventh-round upset knockout of Sechew Powell. "I think he's a tremendous prospect," DiBella said. "People don't realize he's only 23. He beat Powell, which was very impressive and he's a good TV fighter. I'll be working with Steve Smith's Rumble Time Promotions, which brought Deandre to this point. He's going to be in the picture for the vacant IBF title, so we will pursue that possibility against Cory Spinks. A fight between him and Spinks [also from St. Louis] would be a huge event in St. Louis. There are a lot of opportunities for Deandre."
 
Junior middleweight Demetrius Andrade, the No. 1 pro prospect from the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, will have his second professional fight Nov. 29, co-promoter Artie Pelullo told ESPN.com. Andrade, who turned pro Oct. 23 with a smashing second-round knockout of Patrick Cape, will fight on the Verno Phillips-Paul Williams undercard in Ontario, Calif., or on a card in his hometown of Providence, R.I., Pelullo said.
 
Super middleweight Sakio Bika (26-3-2, 16 KOs), who won the third season of "The Contender" last November but has fought only once since -- a first-round knockout win in Australia in April -- is anxious for his bout with first-season runner-up Peter Manfredo (31-5, 16 KOs) on Nov. 13 (Versus), which will take place in Manfredo's hometown of Providence, R.I. "It will be good fighting back in the states again," Bika said. "This year has not been great for me in the boxing ring. My wife had a baby in June and, hence, I wanted to enjoy my time with my new son, Jordan. Hopefully, next year will be a lot busier for me. New England brings back fond memories of one of my greatest boxing successes. I hope to continue that success against Manfredo in New England in November, which is the same month I won 'The Contender' last year." Bika stopped Jaidon Codrington in the final in Boston a year ago.
 
Big underdog Raul Marquez (41-3-1, 29 KOs), preparing for his delayed mandatory challenge against middleweight titlist Arthur Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs) on Nov. 8 in Germany (Integrated Sports PPV, 3 p.m. ET), believes Abraham is looking past him. "I'm an old pro, a crafty veteran who is even more motivated after seeing Hopkins beat Pavlik, old beating young, and I have a lot of experience over Abraham," Marquez, 37, said. "I don't know why Abraham just doesn't say he's focused on me like I would, but he keeps mentioning Pavlik or [Felix] Sturm and you can't tell me he isn't looking ahead, no matter what he says. I read a lot about boxing and he still has to beat me in a very tough fight to get Pavlik, unless, of course, he plans to pull out of our fight again. And I know he has had trouble fighting southpaws, like [Khoren] Gevor and [Ian] Gardner." Abraham-Marquez was scheduled for Oct. 4 but Abraham became ill the morning of the fight and it was postponed.
 
Former light heavyweight champ Glen Johnson (47-12-2, 32 KOs), who is staying busy in the hopes of landing a rematch with titlist Chad Dawson or some other notable match, has a new opponent for his Nov. 11 bout in Hollywood, Fla. Aaron Norwood (26-10-2, 13 KOs) will face him in the 10-rounder after Tiwon Taylor fell out. Also on the card, Edison Miranda (30-3, 26 KOs) returns from his fourth-round knockout loss to Abraham. Miranda, who will fight at 170 pounds, faces Emmanuel Esparza (20-7-1, 5 KOs). Middleweight James McGirt Jr. (19-1, 9 KOs) faces Marcus Upshaw (8-3, 3 KOs) in a 10-rounder and, with a victory, can propel himself into a Jan. 17 HBO undercard fight against "Kid Chocolate" Peter Quillin.
 
Former heavyweight titlist Lamon Brewster (34-4, 30 KOs) continues his comeback Nov. 29 at the Conseco Fieldhouse in his native Indianapolis against another former titleholder, the long-faded Bruce Seldon (38-7, 34 KO), who has a fight also slated for Nov. 7. After losing two in a row, including a one-sided TKO loss in a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko in July 2007, Brewster, 35, took off 13 months before returning to score a fifth-round knockout against Dan Batchelder on Aug. 30. It will be Brewster's first fight in his hometown, which gave him the key to the city after his 2004 knockout victory against Klitschko. Also on the card: former title challenger Fres Oquendo (29-4, 18 KOs).
 
Rahman: Klitschko will regret it!

"Klitschko will regret he chose me to replace Povetkin," said former champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman, who is the new opponent for IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 13 at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany. "Like Lennox Lewis, I will knock him out and take those belts. And then, I am going to beat his brother Vitali, too." On the other hand, Klitschko stated that he won't be intimidated by 'The Rock.' "He is always talking big," stated Wladimir. "I know that back from a fight when he was supposed to meet my brother Vitali. But that does not impress me." Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of Klitschko Management, added "This fight is of much more interest worldwide and the marketing for it is much easier, too, than it would have been with [Alexander] Povetkin."
 
Must win fight for Taylor

With less than two weeks to go before the fight that could determine the entire direction of his boxing future, Jermain Taylor has less than one week left in his Miami-based training camp before shifting to Nashville, Tennessee, site of his 12-round super middleweight eliminator against Jeff Lacy on November 15th at the Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. "Everything is peaking at the right time," says Taylor. "I’m ready. I feel great, and we have a good game plan for Jeff. I have the skills to go in there and win, and look good doing it. I’m hungry, and I’m ready to fight." Coming off consecutive losses to Kelly Pavlik, Taylor is spremely motivated. "It pushes me like nothing else," Taylor said. "This is a fight both of us need to win, especially me, coming off two losses." Promoter Lou DiBella added, "Jermain knows how big this is. He’s very aware. This is the kind of fight that will escalate him back to the top. He has to win the fight!"

Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs), who moved to light heavyweight after a brilliant run as WBO super middleweight champion, insists that he will retire after this fight against the 39-year-old Jones. The Purse Bid for the vacant IBF Jr. Welterweight Championship between Herman Ngoudjo and Juan Urango has been canceled. The Purse Bid was scheduled for tomorrow. The bout will take place on January 30, 2009 in Montreal, Canada.
 
New foe for B. Pacquiao

Lightweight Bobby Pacquiao (29-14-3, 14 KOs) will fnow face current NABA titleholder Robert Frankel (25-9-1, 4 KOs) on the November 20 American Metal & Iron Fight Night at the Tank at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Pacquiao, who was originally slated to face Sandro Marcos, is preparing for the fight together with brother Manny Pacquiao in Los Angeles under trainer Freddie Roach.
 
Roach: Manny will KO Oscar!

Trainer Freddie Roach has boldly predicted that his star pupil, WBC lightweight champion and boxing’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao will knock out Oscar De La Hoya when they meet on December 6, in a 12-round welterweight super fight. "I’m so confident in Pacquiao in this fight...we’re going to knock him out in nine rounds.," said Roach to FOX Sports. "He [Oscar] gets quite tired at normal paces. Pacquiao doesn’t fight at normal paces. We’re going to push the old man…I love this fight!" Other highlights of the interview include: "[Mexican fight fans] like fighters, not boxers. When the bell rings, the Mexican fans in the audience are going to be on Pacquiao’s side...The true Mexican fans love his [Pacquiao’s] style.....Oscar can’t really stand the pace of a Manny Pacquiao, fighting three minutes of every round, attacking him, putting the pressure on this guy, taking away his height and reach advantage by getting close and fighting on the inside and work that body where Oscar has been weak his whole career. And at this stage of Oscar’s career, he’s busted up. He’s starting to break up. His face in the Forbes fight, he was all banged up after that fight. He had a broken cheekbone…and this guy [Forbes] can’t even punch.....I found out through the media that I was no longer the trainer and that he brought Floyd Sr. back and it was a little disappointing because Oscar had told me, one time, he said, ‘I’ll never fight without you in my corner again.’ It bothered me that he couldn’t tell me face to face."
