Melo trade going down

‘Melo trade means Knicks now target Chris Paul, Dwight Howard

Don’t even think about exhaling.

The trade of Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks does not, finally, put the focus back on the court.

Not in today’s NBA, or, more specifically, in tomorrow’s NBA.

Think these past months were lessons in abject cruelty in Denver?

Then consider what now follows in Orlando and New Orleans.

While pundits no doubt will offer their instant analysis on this mega-Melo monstrosity (we’ll offer our kudos here to Denver for maximizing the possibilities), this deal, at least from a Knicks outlook, deserves an incomplete, nothing more.

The make-or-break portion of this trade from a New York perspective comes down the road, with the potential 2012 free agency of both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. Through this latest machination, and through a Chauncey Billups contract that has one remaining year, the Knicks should be positioned to make runs at Paul and Howard just over a year from now.

Where the Anthony trade now most resonates is in New Orleans and Orlando. The Knicks are coming for their stars next.

And when Paul and Howard reflect on what currently is alongside, and then look at the possibilities with Stoudemire and Anthony, how can their wanderlust clocks not start ticking a bit faster?

Perhaps the Knicks capitulated to such a severe degree with their trade package because they feared the introduction of a “franchise” tag in a new NBA collective-bargaining agreement, one that could have kept Carmelo out of their free agency clutches.

But such a franchise tag ultimately could cost the opportunity for a follow-up move for Paul and Howard.

No, for the Knicks — after absolutely ravaging a playoff roster — to make sense of this move, it means starting to put the moves on Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. (And who is to say the two weren’t having dinner at Isiah Thomas’ South Beach place on Monday night?)

For Denver, the nightmare is over.

For Orlando and New Orleans, it seemingly only is beginning.

thank goodness that's over with....now let the second guessing begin:
Remember, if it works Walsh and D'Antoni get the credit, but if it fails it's
ISIAH'S FAULT

i just said that.... we need a center who doesn't need to score but it worked fine with shaq washed up or not shaq demands the ball.

man ur so caught up in ur knick hate... u downgraded melo to below dirk and say he doesn't need to be doubled...amar'e isn't a franchise player...gotdamn have u tell it we got kwame brown and calbert chaney...

the hate is strong...cat in another thread said Melo was Overatted and can't shoot...:lol:

I know what you meant fam. I was just fuckin with you.

Aight. Congrats though. I may try and retain Chauncey for a couple more seasons as opposed to going after CP or D Will. I believe he'll be more effective than D Fish at that age. Along with his experience with Melo. We'll see how it plays out.

lol that is hilarious but true..... Isiah is New York sports Boogey Man. any bad move made by a teams FO is campared to a Isiah move if its bad and a Yankee move if its good.

You know what i respect the cats that say "fuck the knicks" more than the ones that wanna jump on the bandwagon. The knicks aint been shit in years but we get a glimmer of hope the hate comes out. At least i rep a team from my city, most of the dudes on here root for teams that aren't even in their city so how the fuck they gonna say anything about someone elses team. MUH FUKKAS live thousands of miles away from the heat, or lakers , or Boston but yet they are fans. Im not even gonna mention the thunder:angry:. MUH FUKKAS don't even know where oklahoma city is:angry:. So IF you are from LA ,or Boston ( i doubt it), or Miami, i respect your hate everyone else:angry:

As of right now the Knicks need a big man. Shit if I was them, I'd give Earl Barron a call, dude played great for them last season, he averaged a double double I think. He is a natural fit for D'Antoni's offense too. He's just waiting for them to open up a roster spot for him. Oh and you'll see either Chris Paul or Derron Williams in a Knicks uniform in the next couple years guaranteed.

likely hood is we're getting paul... their gm is the knicks former assistant gm...he owes zeke for giving him a shot and paul won't go to vancouver if they sold... chris paul will be a knick by the beginning of the next season... howard won't fit not enough post for him, stat and melo least not with mike d's offense...

What you think about this move, I hardly saw Barron play last year but I read that he was lovin playing for the Knicks.

“For all the Carmelo Anthony talk, Knicks president Donnie Walsh still believes the team's greatest need is a center to take the load off now-injured Amar'e Stoudemire, and Earl Barron has emerged as the most likely candidate to be acquired, The Post has learned.

The Knicks will have an open roster spot one way or another after the Feb. 24 trade deadline and Walsh has intentions of bringing Barron back to the organization, according to an NBA source.

Barron (6 feet, 11 inches) was cut by Phoenix on Dec. 22, and has been waiting patiently for the Knicks to open a roster spot, according to a source.

Barron was a huge success late last season when he signed with the Knicks for the final seven games, averaging a double-double: 11 points and 11 rebounds. He adapted perfectly to Mike D'Antoni's system, was a good locker room guy, and would make the team less reliant on starting center Timofey Mozgov, especially in the playoffs.”-New York Post

Earl Barron is gonna be our center for the remainder of the season and possible playoffs. but next season he's gonna be the backup center b/c we will be bring jerome jordan in from hemofarm to start for us. but we still have 2 days b4 the deadline...i hope we can try to get robin lopez... i don't like not having a center.

Damn. I was hoping the talk of him going to LA to join Kobe and Pau was real. I was also hoping that NY would fuck up the deal and not get him, even if it wasn't because of him joining the Lake Show. Now we gotta hear both real and fake Knick fans talk shit about the Knicks being back, and so on...:smh::smh::lol:...They gave up a lot though. I wonder how 'Melo and Amer'e will mesh as team mates though. It will be interesting to see them try to figure things out on the floor...

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
