media coverage of NBA lockout and jerry sandusky - why fans are pretty stupid

sports "journalists" are rarely journalists. for the most part, their only value is getting insightful quotes, not scribing insightful thoughts.

unfortunately, people in general (both here on BGOL and the US at large) read or listen to their drivel and absorb it, then regurgitate it as fact.

2 glaring examples could not be better provided by the NBA lockout and the criminal drama unfolding around jerry sandusky.

EXAMPLE 1

david aldridge owned himself (and illustrated how woefully ignorant he is regarding NBA labor issues) when he posed a question to NBA deputy commissioner and COO adam silver with a snide request to "do the math". adam silver proceeded to respond, WITH THE ACTUAL MATH. adam silver's response made it crystal clear that aldridge (et al) have NO CLUE about the subject they are supposed to be reporting on, but continue to offer their uninformed opinions anyway.

the NBA lockout approaches it's 5th month, but these idiots get fools to subscribe to their twitter posts as if they were reporting FACT. the truth is, the ESPNs and the NBATVs have reported precious little ACTUAL fact. as a test, how much more knowledgeable TODAY are you than 5 months ago about the SPECIFICS of the negotiations?

the "journalists" (and the brainless twitter followers) can regurgitate buzz words like BRI and "system issues" all they want; it's just a cover (and a red flag) to hide their complete ignorance.

EXAMPLE 2

the sports "media" is having a field day with coach paterno.

reckless and rampant claims are suggesting that coach paterno should have "done more" or that coach paterno participated in a cover up.

these claims are the end result of dullards leaping to irrational conclusions and puffery.

the grand jury report (all 23 pages from official site http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/uploadedFiles/Press/Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdf) indicates that an observant mother became suspicious of jerry sandusky in 1998. a police investigation ensued in may 1998 and jerry sandusky "retired" in may 1999.

seems to me that coach paterno took appropriate action in 1999, when NOBODY ELSE WAS WILLING TO.

if anyone dropped the ball in the (mis)handling of the investigation in 1998, why not blame thomas harmon, director of campus police, who ordered the case closed?

in 2000, a janitor witnessed jerry sandusky engaged in oral sex with a boy. the janitor immediately informed his direct supervisor, but nobody reported the incident to the police. how is that coach paterno's fault?

in march 2002, when the graduate assistant witnessed jerry sandusky engaged in anal intercourse with a boy he thought was ten years old, why didn't the graduate assistant call police? how is that coach paterno's fault?

the graduate assistant did not call the police, but rather opted instead to phone his father. why didn't the graduate assistant's father call the police? how is that coach paterno's fault?

in fact, the graduate assistant waited until the following day to inform coach paterno about what he had witnessed in the showers. was coach paterno supposed to file a police report based on HEARSAY obtained from the graduate assistant? what action could coach paterno take, as jerry sandusky was no longer on his staff? coach paterno reported what he had heard to tim curley, penn state athletic director.

tim curley and gary schultz are facing criminal charges for perjury and their respective failures as mandated reporters. put the blame where it genuinely belongs. listening to hacks like dan patrick, emotional windbags like pat o'brien, or even jim rome would only invite you to engage in mob mentality, not rational thought.

food for thought on EXAMPLE 1

why isn't anyone in the media taking the time to flag the RHETORIC of the pressers ON BOTH SIDES?

why isn't anyone in the media pointing out that a MINIMUM OF 50% of the official statements are merely boiler plate statements made publicly to fight off the pending NLRB litigation that both sides filed?

food for thought on EXAMPLE 2

instead of being lazy "journalists" aiming for low hanging fruit like coach paterno, why is the media ignoring the implication in the grand jury report that gary schultz may have been behind the quashing of the 1998 allegations?

turns out my choice of examples couldn't have been more prescient.

the dim-witted media put a spotlight on javale mcgee and illiterate fans (both here on BGOL and elsewhere) ran with their uneducated interpretations of his comments:

javale mcgee stated:

There’s definitely some guys in there saying that they’re ready to fold, but the majority are willing to stand strong.”

the brainless sheep focused on only half the sentence (perhaps the limit of their intellectual capacity), and javale mcgee became a target of public scorn. literate individuals are capable of reading the entire sentence and are able to comprehend the entire sentence.

the same thing happened again with joe paterno this time the intended target.

joe paterno stated:

"With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.”

once again, the ignorant media and public willfully chose to ignore half a sentence. maybe they don't know what "benefit" or "hindsight" mean. maybe they need someone to translate in plain english for them:

here is the definition of hindsight: Understanding of a situation or event only after it has happened or developed

it's a god damn pity and shame we have so many people in the media and so many people at large who can't even understand basic english.

:smh:

so for 5 long months brainless turds anxiously hung on the twitter feeds of frauds and charlatans at media outlets like ESPN, hoping to gather some insight on the NBA labor negotiations.

today there's no more buzz words like "BRI", "system issues", "hard cap" or "soft cap". today the way is being cleared for de-certification.

after the roller coaster style of RUMOR reporting, it should be apparent to ALL that these sports "journalists" have NO subject knowledge, and as it turns out, don't have any real insight WHATSOEVER.

how many times did the bumblefucks cite "sources" and claimed that both sides were nearing a deal, or close to a deal?

and how many times did the lemming scurry to interwebs to regurgitate their SPECULATION?

this is what happens when FANS assign credibility to talking heads they see on TV.

damn shame.
