Police have charged the cashier, identified as Rayon McIntosh, 31, with felony assault, along with criminal possession of a weapon. Both women were charged with menacing, trespass and disorderly conduct. McIntosh is being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex on $40,000 bail, according to the Department of Correction website.

I forgot how to word this, but anytime someone is on their job there is employee space (usually the work area) that customers should not cross at any time.
With that being said if there is a confrontation and the worker feels threaten he/she do have a right to defend themselves under the law, but most companies have a no violence policy and will most likely fire the employee not for self defense but for fear of a lawsuit if the employee goes to far.
I saw 1-2 people jump over the counter and invade a workers personal space so i'm riding with the employee, you can tongue wrestle all you want with me, but if you enter my workspace on the job ALL BETS ARE OFF!
