In times like these the country does need to cut back but a lot of those earmarks go to good stuff.

For example the earmarks for the astrology thing, history has shown that when a civilization is funding its science and arts projects it is usually on top.

So to discount earmarks for the arts, sciences and research might be a bit much..

I like to think of it as how research and development is in a corporation.
