Lying under oath about an affair and using public funds to try to cover it up. Those are pretty serious charges. Now let's think about this, going forward can you trust this dude to make million dollar decisions.
Those caught using steroids in baseball have shown if you admit to the crime a slap on the wrist but if you lie under oath your gonna get fucked. This is more about the money used than his affair.
I have a feeling the prosecutors blew the case it however. I can't see Kilpatrick's defense team missing vital evidence like phone text messages. Meaning the prosecutors probably withheld evidence from Kilpatrick's defense team. Either way he's screwed, his political career is over.
A friend of mine got caught because wifey had nothing better to do but look through his emails. I tell people all the time text messages and emails are permanent records so watch what you say when typing them. Your better off using the phone.
At the very least password protect your PC, PDA and your phones.

I love text messaging and email.. but I will not discuss anything controversial through email, writing, or text. All that stuff is admissible in court.
Some years ago I had a roommate dispute, that was serious enough to actually go to court and had she not been emailing and texting stupid messages nothing would have ever happened, but those things end up getting her charged. . .
