Looks like a typo

Aight I'm not too technical with the whole computer hardware thing so I got a question. Is this supposed to replace my current hard drive or do I install this and still have my current hard drive? Sort of like a second drive thing.

Cause I was thinking of getting a external hard drive to keep my music and videos on, but they priced off the damn chain! So why is it so much cheaper to replace an internal drive?

use it as an additional drive

i use my original drive (300) for programs
have 2 additional SATA 500's for music, etc.

if the original drive gives me shit, i still have my data safe (music, porn, whatever)...those get backed up to 2 external 500's 1x/week)

hard drives (all things electronics, really) are dropping in price like crazy...and will continue

I have 2tb (8 X 250gb) running in two raid 5 and I plan on upgrading to 8 750gb. It is good to see that the prices are getting lower since the 1 tb drives are out. I have been keeping my eye on the 750 gb Sata drives, when they get to the right price point I am pouncing. But these 500 gbs are looking good.

Either way you want.

You can install it internally in your computer next to your main hard drive and use it as extra storage, or you can replace your main hard drive with the new one (although you'll have to clone your main hard drive to the new one). Most people just use the new hard drive as extra storage.

Alternatively you can get an external enclosure and put the new hard drive in
the external enclosure for use as extra storage.

Here are a couple of IDE version external enclosures I posted in another thread.

Here's an External Enclosure with a fan that supports up to 750GB IDE hard drives for $19.99

Here's one a smaller one without a fan that supports up to 750GB IDE hard drives

Moving Star EMV35BK 3.5" Aluminum USB External Hard Drive Enclosure for $13 - $4 with coupon code xpcgear531em3bk [Exp 5/31] = $9, with shipping starting near $6. Supports drives up to 750GB.

That's just the way it is. There are usually better deals on individual hard drives than factory made external drives. That's why most people just find a good deal on an internal hard drive and buy an external enclosure if they want an external hard drive. Saves $$$$.
