Mass Shooting in Texas Church

Mental health? Answer me this? How do you know who's crazy or who isn't? How do you screen people? By force? The mental health argument used to deflect is so much bullshit. You dont know who isn't or is unstable. You act like people who are nuts have "a tell".

Gun control doesn't mean getting "rid of guns". It means tougher regulations on who can buy them. Yearly registration for weapons like you do with cars and fees added for ownership. Most times people say gun control, you automatically think "their taking our guns!"...No, it means guns shouldn't be sold like candy. You have more regulations on porn than you do guns.

Take the damn guns! Cops included! If the 2nd amendment (Aimed towards FOREIGN TYRANNY) means sth to you, start gunning down the NRA. Identify the enemy first. That mandate is intact for fear of black revolt. If the mass killer firepower won't hold against the local police, the fuck are you going to against the federal government? Impress me, dawg. Nuke up!!

I've been saying this shit for years now,I don't understand how people think gun control means taking your guns away.People will ignore the Republicans on every issue but this one.

You have blind people that's allowed to carry guns in this country....let that sink in.

Thanks Trump for rolling back an Obama Administration Executive Order that made it harder for mentally ill people to get a gun. A pregnant women, an unborn baby, and a five year old being just of few murdered by this sick CAC yesterday. What is it going take to stop the NRA from lobbying against sensible gun control and keeping guns out of the hands of mentally deranged people? But when 26 kids were butchered at Sandy Hook and over 50 gunned down in Las Vegas and punk ass politicians did nothing legislatively, I'm guessing they won't this time either. Opponents of sensible gun control and enhanced background checks need to realize ain't nobody coming for their fuckin' guns and simple regulations like that governing vehicle ownership pose no real threat to them. :hmm:

Tokyo (CNN)President Donald Trump said Monday that he believes the Texas church shooting was caused by a "mental health problem," not an issue with gun laws in the United States.

"Mental health is your problem here," Trump said, noting that "based on preliminary reports" the shooter was "a very deranged individual."
"This isn't a guns situation," Trump said. "This is a mental health problem at the highest level. It's a very, very sad event."

"A very, very sad event, but that's the way I view it," Trump said.

That's what they say. But you do have to be off your fucking rocker to take a domestic dispute this far.

He escaped from a mental institution in 2012. They should have laughed him out of the gun store. It's crazy that republicans will admit these people are mentally ill but still want them to be able to cop guns.

If those for more gun control had any sense, they'd be playing on the fact that mental illness always comes up during these mass shootings instead of worrying about the terrorist angle.

So, this is a mental illness thing, huh? Wait, didn't they just pass law that allows people with mental instability to buy gu, eh, nevermind.

Respectfully, I disagree.

Any/all of those regulations you suggested would deter and/or prohibit me from owning a weapon.

no amount of gun control laws and or regulation will ever be enough to stop this......

because criminals are not gonna give 0 fucks what kind of laws are in place.....

DOJ tentatively settles over Texas church shooting for $144M

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Justice Department announced Wednesday a tentative $144 million settlement with families and victims of a 2017 mass shooting at a Texas church that was carried out by a former U.S. airman who was able to purchase firearms despite a criminal history.
More than two dozen people were killed when Devin Patrick Kelley opened fire during a Sunday service at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. Authorities put the official death toll at 26 because one of the 25 people killed was pregnant in what remains the deadliest mass shooting in Texas history.

Kelley had served nearly five years in the Air Force before being discharged in 2014 for bad conduct, after he was convicted of assaulting a former wife and stepson, cracking the child’s skull. The Air Force has publicly acknowledged that the felony conviction for domestic violence — had it been put into the FBI database — could have prevented Kelley from buying guns from licensed firearms dealer.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez had previously ruled that the Air Force was “60% liable” for the attack because it failed to submit Kelley’s assault conviction during his time in the Air Force to a national database. He ruled that Kelley was at fault for the rest.

The Justice Department said the settlement is still subject to court approvals.

“No words or amount of money can diminish the immense tragedy of the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs,” said Vanita Gupta, associate attorney general for the Justice Department, in a statement. “Today’s announcement brings the litigation to a close, ending a painful chapter for the victims of this unthinkable crime.”

A lawyer representing the Sutherland Springs victims did not immediately return messages seeking comment. Federal court records filed Wednesday in Texas show that attorneys for the victims told the judge they had reached a settlement.

The settlement would end a long-running lawsuit that was filed in 2018. When lawsuits are filed against federal agencies or programs, they are defended by attorneys with the Justice Department, which has separate divisions for criminal prosecutions and other responsibilities.

The settlement is less than the $230 million that Rodriguez had ordered the government to pay families and the victims last year, but the Justice Department appealed that ruling.

Rodriguez said in 2021 that had the government done its job and entered Kelley’s history into the database, “it is more likely than not that Kelley would have been deterred from carrying out the Church shooting.”

Kelley was able to purchase four firearms after being discharged in 2014, three of which he carried into the church. After the shooting, the Air Force was blamed for not reporting his record to the FBI. The conviction would have been a red flag in the mandatory background check when Kelley tried to purchase a gun.

Kelley died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after he was shot and chased by two men who heard the gunfire at the church.
