Marines: Most Female Recruits Don't Meet New Pullup Standard

Starting Jan. 1, every woman in the Marines Corps was supposed to meet a new physical standard by performing three pullups. But that has been put off.

The Marine Corps announced it quietly. There was no news conference — just a notice on its social media sites and an item on its own TV show, The Corps Report.

Lance Cpl. Ally Beiswanger explained that the pullup test had been put off until sometime next year, to gather more data and "ensure all female Marines are given the best opportunity to succeed."

Pullups are hard. I'm not going to front, when I went through boot camp I was one of the last recruits in my platoon to do 20 pullups. I could climb the rope, and negotiate most other obstacles on the various obstacle courses, using upper body strength no problem. But it's something about pullups.

Pullups are a lot harder to do than pushups. I think that's why the Marine Corps uses pullups instead of pushups for it's physical fitness test. What's crazy is that when I was in we were allowed to kip. I have a buddy at work who got out the Corps a short while ago and he said that now male Marines have to do pullups from the dead hang position. That's really, really, hard.

they need more time for 3 pullups?:smh:
Sounds pathetic but its tough on chicks to gather that upper body strength. Id hate to see the struggles if they had it at 5. I had some hardcore chicks at a cross training class last year and they struggled to do more than 5.

How many do the men have to do?

20 pullups for a perfect score. Then, 80 situps in 2:00 minutes (I could be wrong about the time). Then, run 3 miles in 18 minutes.

When I was in and in the best shape of my life I was able to do my 20 pullups and 80 situps. But I never ran 3 miles in 18 minutes. My best run time was in the high 19's.

Damn 3 miles in 18 minutes is rough.

When I joined the Marines, I did thirty pullups in 25 seconds flat.

Don't ask don't tell?

As it should be.

It's a true test of functional upper body strength that represents a real life scenario. Exercises that replicates the ability to jump, pull, climb, and lift are essential in my opinion.

I went in 99 and got out in 06 but it's been like that by the time I went in.

It's 100 sit-ups

In order to pass the semi-annual fitness test, you must perform the minimum acceptable performance requirements shown in the chart below. Additionally, you must have enough overall points to meet the 3rd class fitness requirements.

Fitness Requirements for Each PFT Event (Males)
Age Pull-Ups Crunches 3-Mile Run
17-26 3 50 28:00
27-39 3 45 29:00
40-45 3 45 30:00
46+ 3 40 33:00
Fitness Requirements for Each PFT Event (Females)
Age Flexed-Arm Hang Crunches 3-Mile Run
17-26 15 Seconds 50 31:00
27-39 15 Seconds 45 32:00
40-45 15 Seconds 45 33:00
46+ 15 Seconds 40 36:00
Marine Corps PFT Classification Scores (Both Male and Female)
Class Age 17-26 Age 27-39 Age 40-45 Age 46+
1st 225 200 175 150
2nd 175 150 125 100

I think it's an attrition tool. Think about it. We will let women do ground combat, but they will now have to be qualified. No women will qualified to join if they maintain this standard. I don't see it happening.

When I joined the Marines, I did thirty pullups in 25 seconds flat.

Then I walked out of there and told them devils that a black man has no place in the white devil's army.

When I told him I was FOI them white devil marine recruiters got sked and stotted bowin. They know that 1 FOI is more powerful than 10 marines and 5 navy seals. Sheeid! You are better off fighting 10 Marines and 5 Navy Seals at one time that fuckin with ONE FOI! FOI are straight killas!

Cool story bro.:smh:

It's 100 sit-ups

Do you mean 100 crunches? I was shocked to read that so I quickly perused a military website but it said crunches. When I was in we had to do 80 sit-ups not 100 crunches, but it's sounding like they changed it.

Just like the rifle range. When I was in we didn't have ACOG's (4x scopes). Now my friend who just got out of the Marines said that they use ACOG's at the rifle range instead of iron scopes. Excluding boot camp, I qualified as a rifle expert every time I went to the range.

However, I only shot a possible once. When I shot a possible, I remember that I got so excited that I left the line without my rifle. My Platoon Sgt. punished me by making me hold my rile by it's barrel extended arm till my arm was sore. Anyway, there is no way I wouldn't have shot more possibles with an ACOG.

If they can't do the same as the men they shouldn't get the same pay. My girl was telling me on a police show how the woman cop couldn't kick the door in. I said she shouldn't be a cop then. She was like well its harder. fuck that equal pay

I noticed pullups are hard for tall people too. I guess they have to work harder because they have longer arms and longer distance to pull up.

Oh yeah, when I was in the corps my best was 20 pullups (when kipping was legal) 80 sit ups and a 20:02 3 mile.

I'm currently in now and lemme tell you there are some females who can knock out 20 pull-ups (none of them like dudes and look like dudes).

But in order to get a 1st class PFT you have to:

20 Pull-ups
100 crunches
18 min 3-mile. (Being that I smoke mine is pretty shitty)

My old drill instructor could smoke a pack a day and get a 15 flat 3-mile

Doug77 posted the qualifications for males and the minimum is 3 pullups

shit i aint gon lie I was never a PT stud...

3 pullup minimum = ME

one for god core and country and a couple extra just to put myself over that hump...

max out on crunches...

then pray to god on that run. i usually made my 26:30
but I was always able to climb the ropes and do all of the obstacle courses

even knocked mf's senseless during pugil sticks...
and during MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts) leaning mf's during that boxing

and dude is right about that gym shit too. dudes lifting major weight but cant pull themselves up
once. before the workout. ever.

This info is wrong. This was the original plan, but it was recently scrapped due to the study saying most female Marines aren't ready. Not implemented by the USMC.

I had a LCpl who could do 23, but she was the exception. As for as first class that's bullshit, you only need a score of 225. The requirements you listed is for a male and that varies because you have to add age to the equation and it's totally different for females.

That's a bad pic. Those wouldn't count in a PFT and I'm sure the guy doing the counting wasn't counting that because of the kip. Straight up straight down, no kipping. Straight dead hangs.
