HOUSTON- A Houston man forked over $400 and even hid in a trash can to score the new Air Jordan "Cool Greys" Thursday.

And he wasn’t the only one desperate for the new shoes.

The crowds were so big – and so determined – at many Houston malls that HPD officers had to be called in keep things under control.

At Northline Commons on the North Freeway, shoppers said they’d been waiting since 8 a.m. on Wednesday to score a pair of the sought-after shoes.

At Deerbrook Mall, where JuMarcus Bingham started his quest, police said anywhere from 500 to 1,000 people were rushing to buy the Jordans.

That mad rush left a door damaged – and left Bingham working on a "Plan B."

"This is the first time they’re coming back out in 10 years," said Bingham.

Even when security at Deerbrook shooed out hundreds shoe-seeking shoppers, Bingham managed to stay inside.

"I was in a trash can hiding in the mall for about an hour, trying to be first in line for the shoes," Bingham said.

But by the time Bingham actually lined up for the retro shoe, they had sold out of his size 8. So, he rushed over to Northwest Mall and tried his luck there.

Adolfo Martinez was ahead of Bingham in line at Northwest Mall and couldn’t even find adult sizes. He settled on a pair for his son.

"It’s just the Jordan’s," said Martinez. "It reminds me when I was younger when they came out."

In the end, Bingham pulled out on more trick and managed to score a pair of his favorite kicks. He walked up to a customer who’d just bought a pair.

"He was coming out the line," said Bingham. "I just pulled him over to the side and was like ‘How much you want for them?’"

That’s when Bingham forked over $400 for the Cool Greys.

But why did he do it?

"You know, someone might think you’re kinda crazy paying that much for a pair of sneakers," 11 News reporter Tiffany Craig said.

"I mean I had to get ‘em. I support Jordans," said Bingham.

The retail price for the new Air Jordan Cool Greys is about $180.

Their turning it into some other shit:smh:

What a fucking idiot. And WHY is this shoe so limited? It's like they want these stupid motherfuckers to kill each other for some shoes. :smh:

In Houston Jordans are damn near taken serious like religon smh, since i was a kid.

They sure are. When I was in High school me and my boys went to the Galleria mall early to get the first patten leathers and went back to school flossing. As a grown man now, I look back at that shit and say what the fuck was I thinking .

I can see young cats doing this but grown ass men better have more on their priorities than camping out early in the morning for a pair of Jordans to wear.

I'm not a fan of that argument.

:hmm:

Did you not see what they guys will do for those damn shoes?

Why are they only selling them until midnight, limiting distribution?

Let's be honest here--if a dude is willing to wait in a damn trash can, what do you think others might do to get them some fucking Jordans?

If these assholes didn't limit distribution, we wouldn't have to be concerned about these idiots doing unsavory things to get a pair.

they do the same thing with diamonds, what's your point? it's economics101, supply and demand. some people only want them BECAUSE they're limited, air force 1's were a short lived craze because anybody and their mother could walk in to a footlocker any time of the day and buy a pair

nike and jordan brand are in the business of selling sneakers not caskets and tomb stones

No but once someone gets seriously hurt in one of those long lines waiting for the release of a pair of Jordans. The media and just americans aren't as sympathetic as they once were in the early 1990's when urban city youth were losing their lives over a jacket,sneakers.Sue,sue,sue.

Their just not pushing and shoving each other but breaking windows inside a malls, thats a no-no:smh:

I blame the fucking corporations for doing this limited distribution shit, yes I do. We know that in the past these fools have robbed, beaten and killed for these shits, why create that frenzy?

Oh yeah..capitalism. :hmm: Money is more important than lives.

Im 27... As long as Ive worn Js, theyve had lines to get em. Dont see why all of a sudden the shit is just gonna change. I myself didnt want these, but there are ways to get real Js and not go through shit like this... Jordan has a website you can order from, as does Eastbay, Champs, Footaction etc... People have to stop trying to blame corporations for the actions of a FEW consumers. How the fuck they supposed to guard against a few local dumbasses??? Theyre in the business of making money, not public safety. Why not have more security around shoes store in release day??? Why does Nike have to cut into it bottom line because of what COULD happen??? Do YOU guard against what COULD happen every waking moment of your life??? Youre either about to lie to make a point, or about to look like a hypocrite... This question also extends to Miss Lola since she seems to want to hold Nike accountable for the local idiot...

that's why I pretty much left the discussion alone. they issue the same warnings to shoppers around this time EVERY YEAR about walking to their cars alone with playstation, xbox, and a bunch of other gifts. "once someone gets hurt.." ok, once someone gets hurt then what? nothing. there isn't much you can do to stop a handful of dumb asses and low lives

Honestly, when i read the title, i thought it was you my nigga.

Two things will result from this, the malls security & police will start treating cats like "Nigga" in those lines and once 15yr Paul Zimmerman gets accidently pushed into one of those glass windows-someone will pay.The mall doesn't want that type of pub, they wont want to scare off the stroller-moms and senior citiczens.

Why not have more security around shoes store in release day???
You just negated what you said earlier.extra security?

:rolleyes:You mean like taking precautions? Its pushing & shoving,Its breaking store windows, damn near stampedes, spraying mace to control a crowd and robbers holding up shoe stores-for jordans.Oh and Hiding in garbage cans for hour(s).I would hate to see what happens next,I want everyone and anyone to get a pair that want one.

Its the samething with Black-friday,it takes for someone to get hurt and death for some stores to start doing things differently.

Real life situations, life in general doesn't belong in this, what are you talking about.

I can see you have a comprehension problem. Im not saying the Malls and stores themselves shouldnt do something. But how the fuck you gonna blame Nike for shit that happens when their shoes go on sale??? How is that Nikes fault??? Exclusivity is business 101. If everybody can get a limited edition... WTF is the point of having a LIMITED edition??? Im against being foolish and trying to pin shit on people who dont have shit to do with it. You got an idiot doing burnouts on a new set of tires, a chunk of rubber comes off or a rock flies up, hits an old lady in th eye, and she wants to sue Bridgestone because of the actions of the dumbass??? In live in Charlotte, and before than Chicago... Evertime I went to cope a pair of Js on release day early in the morning there were lines... Just how shit is... Theres usually noticeably more security though...

The question I want answered is why Nike, whos main goal is to make money should do shit differently because the fucks at the local level dont know how to handle idiots and security???
