A New York lawyer has been killed in a 'freak accident' after he fell while sliding down a third-floor banister during a party inside the Brooklyn Museum.
Kirkland Dawson, 34, was attending the Eastern Parkway gallery's First Saturday celebration when he lost his balance on the railing and fell to the ground floor.
The attorney was rushed to the New York-Presbyterian New York Methodist Hospital after his fall at 9:30pm on Saturday. He then passed away on Sunday.

His sister, Taylor Dawson, told the New York Daily News: 'We're really just hearing word of mouth what happened. We still don't really know. No one at the museum has reached out to his mom or me. A detective reached out to my mom and said it was a freak accident.
'He was falling from some type of landing and couldn't stop his fall from the stairwell he was on. They said he suffered brain damage and head trauma.'
The lawyer's mother, Kathy, described her son as 'the best person ever' and said she would like to better understand what had happened to him.

Taylor Maatman, a spokeswoman for the Brooklyn Museum, said: 'We're deeply saddened by this tragic accident, and our heartfelt thoughts are with the visitor’s family and friends, and particularly those who were with Mr. Dawson that night'.
She also spoke to confirm Kirkland had fallen while sliding down a stairwell banister.
Ryan McBride, 33, was a former roommate of Kirkland and had reconnected with his friend moments before the accident.
He described the lawyer - who had taken the bar exam a month ago - as 'a great guy' who 'made friends everywhere'.
