It seems like it doesn't take much to become a boutique supercar manufacturer these days. Especially considering how some clever 3D modelling and a bit of marketing can make a big splash. Initially, at least. But there's one new supercar, from a new supercar company that's made the jump to an actual running supercar. And it comes from Taliban-led Afghanistan, making it the first Afghan supercar.

Updated March 2023: Entop has released more videos of the Mada 9 running under its own power, on the roads of Afghanistan, and on snowy fields kicking up dirt. While other details are scarce, this is one made in Afghanistan supercar worth looking out for.

It's perhaps the last place you might expect a supercar to come from. A team of Afghan supercar enthusiasts, have created the Entop Mada 9. It's gone viral, helped by the Taliban themselves unveiling it, sparking a lot of interest in the home country of the car. It's certainly offering something a bit different in terms of design, and in the powertrain department. That's because this Afghanistan supercar is currently powered by a four-cylinder Toyota engine!

The Afghan Supercar Has A Tubular Frame Chassis

A lot of appreciation has already gone the way of the Mada 9. However, as you can probably imagine, concrete details on it are scarce. The team behind it keeping a lot of the juicy information under wraps from us. The rumor mill is awash with information though, such as that the car is in fact made from lightweight composite materials and that it is all based on a tubular frame chassis. If that wasn’t interesting enough, then the Mada 9 is also set to be a mid-engine machine.

Thus, the engine of the car will sit behind the driver. When it comes to the size of the engine and its power output though, that is unknown. The only information currently available points to the Mada 9 being powered by a Toyota four-cylinder motor. Not just any four-cylinder either, apparently it's a Toyota Corolla engine. But it has been modified for more power, though the details aren't available.

What we also know is that F1-style pushrod suspension should be part of the build of the car. That is something the leading supercar manufacturers utilize, so it is bold of these startups to try their hand on it, but it will be fantastic if it does indeed work.

The Made-In-Afghanistan Supercar Was Designed In-House

We do have a rendering of the design to take a closer look at the Mada 9, and it's quite a striking looking car. The front-end features a large splitter, and around that is a very flat and sleek fascia with no real air dam, and a very small grille area with the company’s logo on it. The bodywork around all that is very aggressive, with air channeled either side of the grille thanks to aerodynamically shaped panels in front of the wheels. The hood itself is quite bulging, as are the wheel fenders at the front.

The bodywork continues with this aggressive stance across the rest of the car. The side of the car is very aggressive, with a smooth door and large side skirts, and we can once again see cooling channels, this time in front of the rear wheels. More than likely this is where a lot of cool air is going for the engine in the Mada 9. It’s a sleek and at the same time aggressive design, although sadly we don’t get a chance to look at the back of this impressive machine.

Is The Mada 9 Real?

What is perhaps even more surprising is that we won’t have long to wait to see the car in the flesh. The car is in fact built from the ground up at the Navavari Center of Technical and Vocational Education of Afghanistan, and it was all developed with the hilly terrain of the country in mind. The CEO, Muhammad Raza Ahmadi, said that the team has been developing the body and engine for the prototype over five years. And it should be ready in two weeks' time! The team plans on showing off the car at a car exhibition in Qatar.

An Ambitious Project With A Lot Of Potential
So we don’t have long to wait before we get to see just what the Mada 9 is all about, and to hopefully find out what engine lies at the heart of it. The project is certainly an ambitious one, and the team say it will undergo rigorous testing before it enters production. But it could become a source of national pride for the people of Afghanistan, and it would be quite the milestone in the country's history. Getting the car into production will be tough, but we are keen to see just what they’ve come up with in a couple of weeks time.

Taliban release first 'Mada-9' supercar in Kabul, Afghanistan
Afghanistan's Taliban rulers have hailed the unveiling of the country's first homegrown 'supercar'. A sleek, black sports car took to the snowy streets of the capital after a five-year building project by engineers at a Kabul technical and vocational training institute. Video clips showed former insurgents gathered around the vehicle as it purred through potholed streets far more likely to see pick-up trucks full of armed men than racing cars. The prototype vehicle, called the Mada-9, is reported to be the creation of a company called ENTOP.

Roads? Outside of Kabul and the old bases there were no paved roads. There was exactly ONE fucking MSR in that entire country.

I don’t think we ever paved it, either.

The only supercar that can't be driven in it's country of origin..... when I saw that they were making a supercar.... all I could picture was one of those bearded Taliban chiefs doing donuts with one
