Legendary emcee and producer Lord Finesse has filed a lawsuit against Mac Miller for unauthorized use of one of his beats.

Lord Finesse has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Mac Miller for using the former's "Hip 2 Da Game" beat without permission.

Finesse, a member of New York's Diggin' in the Crates Crew (D.I.T.C.), released "Hip 2 Da Game" in 1995. The song was featured on Finesse's third solo album, 1996's The Awakening, as a single. It was performed and produced by the Bronx native:

According to Courthouse News Service, Lord Finesse is suing Mac Miller because of Miller's use of the "Hip 2 Da Game" beat on the song "Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza (The Kool Aid Song)." Miller's song is featured on his mixtape K.I.D.S.: Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit:

"This is a case about a teenage rapper- Mac Miller- copying the music from a song written, produced and performed by Lord Finesse, a hip hop legend, changing the title and then distributing it under his own name in order to launch his music career," states Finesse's complaint.

Finesse says he filed the lawsuit after mixtape-hosting site DatPiff.com, Miller, and Rostrum Records (Miller's label), refused to respond to a cease an desist letter earlier in July.

Heard about this

How do you sue for using a sampled record

Finesse lost me with this one.

Isn't Mac Miller giving that mixtape away for free? Not sure where he gets $10 million from if the kid isn't even making a profit out of it.

theres always at least 2 sides to a story...

and what does L have to do with this? who his favorite rapper is has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

I don't believe he can sue over a mixtape song that wasn't sold. If he wins then the floodgates will be opened for lawsuits. I guess Finesse needs some money.

actually fam Finesse is not broke by a long shot. trust me on that :lol: Diggin Studios is flourishing big time. How i know is because my studio is right down the block from theirs and Headquarterz.

I speak with O.C., Finesse, and Buckwild just about everyday.

my only issue like i told Finesse last night is, this can destroy the mixtape game if you are not careful.

His issue is that Mac Miller made a lot of money touring off that record, and guess what he is exactly right.

FOOD for thought....

but is it true that they workd it out over the phone and then he went and sued anyway?

or that finesse never cleared the original sample? cuz that would be the same thing he's claiming mac miller is doing right?

I'm happy Finesse is doing good, I like the whole DITC especially OC. I do believe Mac made money by touring but the fact that one can sue over a mixtape is strange. Lil Wayne, Jay- z and many more have used others songs on mixtapes and they didn't get sued. More power to him though...

if it's true that finesse didn't clear the original sample, not only will he not get any money from mac miller, but he will prolly fuck around & get both himself & mac miller sued by the label who owns the original record

I cant comment on that phone convo, but i will say this. Mac Miller is basically stunting for his fan base right now. He knew that law suit was coming a long time ago.

When in doubt, lets bring our own doubt to the masses. Hence Mac saying Finesse didnt clear the original sample.

Its a PR move on Mac Millers part. I know his camp really well, since the days of them mixing it up on all the websites. Even have a record in the stash i did with him. But i must say i disagree with him making a killing on tour off that record, and not dropping The Legendary Lord Finesse a couple of dollars.

Bottom Line...:yes::yes::yes::yes:

Exactly what I was about to say. If you don't clear the original sample you don't own the production.

Exactly !!!

Now see you what the issue is.. I have to be honest, Finesse might now win, but atleast people are gonna pay attention the argument of creativity.:yes::yes:

People always have though.... he's not going to win the case. Anybody who knows hip hop knows who Lord Finesse and what he has done. Suing this dude isn't gonna enhance that.

There is no way this can not destroy the mix tape game which is exactly what Y T has been waiting for.

And for the record im not The 45 King or Nature.. I wont be saying who i am. Lets just enjoy the thread.

To me it's sounding like mac's song got attention, which brought some attention to finesse's song, which may have resulted in him getting hit with lawsuit papers. Which is why he may be going after mac. Almost like, "it's your fault I'm being sued, so I'm going to sue you."

I don't know if that makes sense or if it's even possible though.

Again you are speculating like the rest.. For the record Finesse hasnt been hit with no papers. He is just doing what he feels like he should do. Lord Finesse is a really good dude, and anybody that knows him will tell you exactly just that.

I was a young guys making beats a Freddy Foxx crib back in the day when i met the Finesse, and he never fronted on me from that day forth.

The reason i personally defend people like Finesse, Freddy Foxx, O.C. Julie Greenwald, Manager Dave from Payday Records. is because they never fronted on me or my talents.

I can go on and on, but at the end of the day, people need to respect the culture.
