I remember as a teen listening to the Beatles, Curtis Mayfield and Hall and Oates and being bullied MERCILESSLY as a kid because I listened to "white music" (Curtis Mayfield...Superfly???) This is how I know kids/Teens are idiots!!! Method Man had influence from legendary bands and became apart of one himself. In order to have influence you had to have studied that music.
I think music tastes are much more recognized now as I see teens wearing AC/DC t-shirts (doesn't necessarily mean they listen though) But these younger artist are more public about other genres that they listen to.
