Rapper Lupe Fiasco was escorted off stage by security during a performance at StartUp RockOn’s inauguration celebration Sunday night.

Even at an event celebrating President Obama’s second term, Lupe didn’t hesitate to criticize the president, announcing that he did not vote for him. Thirty minutes into the anti-war song, Lupe was approached by guards and taken off stage.

According to Foreign Policy’s Josh Rogin, Fiasco was told to move on to the next song and refused.

Organizers say the Chicago rapper’s political views had nothing to do with the decision.

“Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned,” StartUp RockOn said in a statement. “But Lupe Fiasco was not ‘kicked off stage’ for an ‘anti-Obama rant.’ We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.”

But Hypervocal, one of the group’s sponsors, tweeted unhappiness that politics entered into the event:

The thing I don't get is, people comparing apples and oranges about the shootings.
The Sandy Hook was 5 years kids shoot, some multiple times at one time and place.
The Chicago shootings are one or two a day but it's gang or dumb as people shooting at each other in the street. But no one tells. When are the people in the hood of Chicago going to stand up and say no more. We all know that will not happen because this type stuff go on in the black hood every week.

Just a week ago in my town, some young boys in the middle of the day went to another hood and just starting shooting over another kid that was killed the past weekend, because he(yeah he was not locked up because no one would tell- side note- this same kid told the father of the kid he killed, that he would get the same if he had beef at a party- very brave) killed another kid that was going around robbing, plus bullshitting. They shot a kid in the foot and his mom in the leg. Did not hit not one person that they were shooting at.


Then black people sit back and complain about the white people this and that or government this and that but own people are a mess. You don't see white or asian kids shooting each other every weekend as the education gap gets bigger.


Today, I was in a store and two black older men was talking in line like they had not seen each other in a time.
One states, yeah I don't get out much because, I don't know what these young boys going to do these days with all this shooting anywhere.

Lupe knew he was going to voice himself when he had the chance to and the PR reps should have done more checking on where Lupe stand in politics. It's not like he didn't voice the Obama issue before it's all over youtube.

Actually, I saw Lupe on an MTV, or was it BET, being interviewed, supposedly in his hood bemoaning the wildness in his home world. Appearing to be frustrated by the madness.

Personally, I think, from the little I have heard from him, he wants to be part of the solution.

But I still want to know does he reject the no snitching ridiculousness.
