Lt. Gen. Michael Langley is set to become the first Black four-star general in the Marines' 246-year history. He will appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday and, if confirmed by the Senate, he will lead thousands of U.S. troops in Africa as chief of U.S. Africa Command.

Langley, who is from Shreveport, LA, has served more than three decades in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has served abroad in Afghanistan, Japan, and Somalia. Langley has received multiple advanced degrees in strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College and the U.S. Army War College. The Louisiana native is one of only six Black generals to serve in the branch.

Increasing diversity in the armed forces, especially among its leadership ranks, has been an ongoing effort for the U.S. military’s top brass. More than 70 white men have achieved and earned the highest rank in the Marines, vs. Langley as the sole Black man. More than 80% of generals in all of the U.S. military branches are white, according to research by the Council on Foreign Relations.

This is not an achievement. This government has relied on Black Americans to fight in every conflict since before this country existed only to never honor any agreement. There has never been a point in American history where Black Americans can say this treated us fairly, these token achievements will never repay the debt this country owes to it's original citizens.

Actually it is.

If you read the story there has only been 70 four star General’s in the Marine Corps history.

The Marine’s only have two four star General’s at a time in its active rank.

The Marines only have two in the positions of Commandant and Asst. Commandant on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon . The rest of their General’s are lower rank.

And they don’t just put anybody in that position. You gotta have your shit above and beyond every standard in the book.

How many Marine generals in history are of Irish descent, Italian, German, Dutch, Cuban, etc? Black Americans have been the fabric that holds this country together for too long to think the first black anything in 2022 is an achievement. I'm not doubting this man and his proficiency, I'm sure he's thorough in his work. Think about how many Black men and women were overlooked since 1775 fam.

Blacks were not considered citizens until 1865 in this country.

The first Black officer in the military wasn’t until 1877.

The first Black General in the US military wasn’t until 1940.

Blacks were segregated in the US Armed Forces until 1948.

Prior to the 1900’s only White Anglo Saxon’s (WASP) mofos were in leadership positions in the military and politics.

Those groups of folks you listed were considered trash in the eyes of America until after WW2 which ended in 1945.

Why were Black Americans not considered citizens but able to fight enemies of this government?
Why was George Elliot (a southerner) appointed to First lieutenant in 1878? Black Americans never committed treason against the US.
How many White servicemen served under that Black General after 1948?
You see where I'm going with this fam?

2 questions;
1.Does this mean that there are now three 4 stars in the Marines? If he is getting Africa Command he sure as shit can't be CMC or Assistant CMC.
2. Looks to me like he is an artilleryman (0802) by trade. Will he be the first non-infantryman (0302) to get four stars? If so, that is a big deal, not as big a deal as a Bruh getting his, but big in Marine terms.
