Good info in the thread. Roadtripped along the westcoast a handful of times - as a kid in '89 and '93, and older in the early-00s and 2010. Oregon, Hollywood, Oakland, Sacramento, San Fran, San Diego, La Jolla, Anaheim, etc. Good visits. The 2010 visit was fun as we were familiar with some spots and re-visited them years later.

What type of place are you looking to buy in Cali? I noticed a handful of friends and former coworkers relocating to Alberta (from B.C.) these past number of years. Different job opportunities and better value on housing/real estate. The B.C. real estate market is overpriced.

Place has more than doubled in that time. Got a coworker closing on his 1st place next year. Another coworker is looking to sell her parents' place next year (they've passed in recent years) and downsize. She's hoping to sell for 1.2M and buy something in the 700 - 750k range.

Agreed. Similar prices on the westcoast of Canada. She's looking to downsize from the older family home to a nice condo. I think the older home's sale should go smoothly. Place has a new furnace, flooring, roof, and recent appliances. More appeal than it would have otherwise.

Most definitely. Thanks. Hopefully she makes the move as I know it would be good for her. I'm thinking it'll probably take a number of years though, as she's very indecisive. I just reminded her to pay attention to the market, as it will keep climbing for awhile, and she's never gonna get some clearance deal and some great bargain. She's fortunate too as if she sells the family home, she could essentially make the other purchase in full without having to carry any type of mortgage, and still have hundreds of thousands in the bank.
