Does anyone remember that post from a while back that dealt with some christian missionaries changing pieces of the bible to make it easier for this particular indian tribe to grasp. I think the indians had no concept of salvation and couldn't understand why they should punish themselves.

Anyone remember this post or the tribe in it?

I don't recall a post on this board with that description ... not that I remember each one ... but one like that, I probably would have.

I found it....maybe it wasn't on here...I dunno...oh well

The tribe was the Panare and its said to have happened in Colorado during 1975-1976.

"It was soon realized, however, that before the Indians could be made to accept repentance and salvation - both equally obscure concepts to the Panare - one had to give them something to feel guilty about. The missionaries came up with an ingenious, yet underhand, solution - translate and re-edit the New Testament in such a way so as to implicate the Panare Indians in Jesus' death!"

The rest can be found here.
