LL Cool J defends ‘Accidental Racist’ duet with Brad Paisley

NBCNEWS - Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney sang about races living “in perfect harmony” back in 1982, comparing the blend to keys on a piano in “Ebony and Ivory,” a tune that hit No. 1 with relatively little controversy. But the latest attempt by a white and black singer to talk about racial issues is stirring up a lot of hate — for the song and its singers.

The song, “Accidental Racist,” is a duet between Brad Paisley and LL Cool J, featured on Paisley’s new album “Wheelhouse.” Lyrics include Paisley crooning:

“I’m proud of where I’m from/ But not everything we’ve done/ And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history/ Our generation didn’t start this nation/ We’re still picking up the pieces/ Walking over eggshells/ Fighting over yesterday”

While LL jumps in with:

“When I see that white cowboy hat, I’m thinking it’s not all good/ I guess we’re both guilty of judging the cover not the book/ I’d love to buy you a beer/ Conversate and clear the air.”

If mama said knock me out, come do it
You can't win and that dumb bitch knew it
I'm a send you home in a body bag
Wit the mic in your throat and a jock for a gag
You're out of here, over, finished, all in
And Marly marl can't save you from fallin
'Cause as soon as you came back what did you do
To the break of dawn, another dumb move
You can't go hard, you're just so-so Todd
I'm that type of guy, oh my God
It's gets no rougher comes no weaker
marly hooked the beats so now you need a
Writer to bring you back from hell
Because I'm a rock up L
Low life loser, life like luna
Lafidasical, lispless luna
Tic liver lifeless, living likeness
Lusting longing lyrics like this
Little league, lard larsonist liar
Label ledger, left the leper liar
Bull, lull, lateral learning
Laps language latent lurking
Language, language, local logo
Light laboring, limited local
Now LL's a laughing stock
'Cause I bit that ass to the last stop
I watched you fall like Hitler fell
And now you're down to a broken L
You're records ain't hot and you're shows don't sell
Yo, tell 'em how you fell L, hard as hell
You came back and you thought you had me
But think about it, whos' your daddy - Kool Moe Dee

In short, Fuck that Sell Out. - MrBee

L.L took a "Big L" for this one, he actually defended the confederate flag.:smh:

wow. so now dudes are outright lyin just to make L seem like he's on some fox news sheit? dude didn't defend the confederate flag. this is what he said about it:

(I won't judge your red flag)

not judging doesn't equate into defending. but maybe u didn't intentionally lie about the line. could be you read something then reinterpret it to mean what you want it to mean. and that ain't even the worse of it. some dudes on bgol are proving woefully inadequate when it comes to trying to dissect song material and dialogue about it. almost like it's 2 difficult for them or sumthin. it's pitiful as fuk that dudes fall to the lowest common denominator and holler that cool j is suddenly a 'sellout' because of questionable verses in the song and totally ignore everything he's done in the community over the decades. dayum shame :smh:

naw. i read his entire verse. that sheit was ridiculous beyond words! no black person should ever talk about forgetting slavery as a way to move forward. but that doesn't equate to him being a 'sellout'. dude has done to much to help out to many other black folks over the decades to now be labeled a 'sellout' -- especially by dudes that ain't done sheit themselves.

cool j is guilty of writing a whack verse in a terrible song. but that's all imo

i listened to the song w/out judging and this is what i got.

the country guy is singing about how he's proud to be a white man from the south. its a verse every country cac can rally around.

he said shit like he's just a proud rebel son, he's proud of where he's from, southern pride, shit like that...

but ll's verse is on some head looking at ur shoes hat in hand "dear mr white man, we negroes aint so bad. just give us a chance suh" bullshit.

if its a song about being proud of where u from but seeing shit from the other persons shoes then why doesnt he talk about being proud of where he came from, being black and who he is?

if im reading into it wrong somebody please correct me...

since u listened to it you missed a few things. check out the lyrics minus the music: http://www.thewrap.com/tv/column-po...ics-so-you-dont-have-hear-them-85061?page=0,0

the white dude talks about how he's proud of being where he's from but not proud of everything that white folks from the south did to black folks. talks about southern blame, etc. but i don't read cool j's verse like a hat-in-hand line. imo it's more like he's saying that we don't know each other, and wants the dude to get to know HIM as opposed to relying on stereotypes so both can move forward to a better place in terms of racial reconciliation

I understand what they were trying to do.

But it was misguided and simplistic and because of that offensive.

It was some Rodney King can't we all get along type shit.

But a whole bunch of y'all are some dog pile on the rabbit type mofokrs just following the trend.

All that coon and sell out shit is over the top

and he gives more than most of y'all so who is the sell out

LL Cool J
A few years ago he founded Camp Cool J, a year-round camp that provides educational, cultural and recreational programs that address the concerns of young people across the country. The program also provides urban youths with free educational, vocational and recreational activities and the chance to interact with positive role models outside of the inner city. But more importantly, it prepares them to become tomorrow's leaders.

Fam he said RIP to Robert R. Lee. You do know who that is right?

He said if you don't judge my gold chains, I'll forget the chains (of slavery!!).

GET THE fuck /out /of /here.

I agree with this. Btw, celebs got called coons everyday on this board, and no one seems to point out the good that THEY do. Like they used to say in the army: "A man could build 1000 bridges, and he'll be known as a bridge builder, but if he sucks ONE cock, he's no longer known as a bridge builder." Unfortunately, in light of all of the good he done, THIS is his LATEST, so people are jumping on it. It's natural.

I got a question for ya'll though. Where'd you get your crystal balls that keeps telling ya'll what dudes do in their personal lives? I mean I keep hearing in real life you'd fuck this chic, she look better than anyone you mess with, he does more than you have, compared to your life etc etc. It's weird.

He was trying to say that he wouldn't blame a white guy from the present for slavery. Again, poor execution, and there's no explaining "RIP to Robert E. Lee", no matter how hard Damn Right tries.

To the man that waited on me at the Starbucks down on Main, I hope you understand
When I put on that t-shirt, the only thing I meant to say is I'm a Skynyrd fan
The red flag on my chest somehow is like the elephant in the corner of the south
And I just walked him right in the room
Just a proud rebel son with an 'ol can of worms
Lookin' like I got a lot to learn but from my point of view

I'm just a white man comin' to you from the southland
Tryin' to understand what it's like not to be
I'm proud of where I'm from but not everything we've done
And it ain't like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn't start this nation
We're still pickin' up the pieces, walkin' on eggshells, fightin' over yesterday
And caught between southern pride and southern blame

They called it Reconstruction, fixed the buildings, dried some tears
We're still siftin' through the rubble after a hundred-fifty years
I try to put myself in your shoes and that's a good place to begin
But it ain't like I can walk a mile in someone else's skin

'Cause I'm a white man livin' in the southland
Just like you I'm more than what you see
I'm proud of where I'm from but not everything we've done
And it ain't like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn't start this nation
And we're still paying for the mistakes
That a bunch of folks made long before we came
And caught between southern pride and southern blame

Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you're livin' in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin' doesn't mean I'm up to no good
You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would
Now my chains are gold but I'm still misunderstood
I wasn't there when Sherman's March turned the south into firewood
I want you to get paid but be a slave I never could
Feel like a new fangled Django, dodgin' invisible white hoods
So when I see that white cowboy hat, I'm thinkin' it's not all good
I guess we're both guilty of judgin' the cover not the book
I'd love to buy you a beer, conversate and clear the air
But I see that red flag and I think you wish I wasn't here

I'm just a white man
(If you don't judge my do-rag)
Comin' to you from the southland
(I won't judge your red flag)
Tryin' to understand what it's like not to be
I'm proud of where I'm from
(If you don't judge my gold chains)
But not everything we've done
(I'll forget the iron chains)
It ain't like you and me can re-write history
(Can't re-write history baby)

Oh, Dixieland
(The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixin')
I hope you understand what this is all about
(Quite frankly I'm a black Yankee but I've been thinkin' about this lately)
I'm a son of the new south
(The past is the past, you feel me)
And I just want to make things right
(Let bygones be bygones)
Where all that's left is southern pride
(RIP Robert E. Lee but I've gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me, know what I mean)
It's real, it's real
It's truth

Why does he have to explain Robert E Lee.

Dude was a general for the conferderate army..He didn't make policy he followed orders.

I'm missing what makes Robert E Lee such a lightening rod ..

But I think by saying RIP to him he was trying to say bury the civil war,,,you know how red necks always say the south will rise again ?

Many of those mofokrs still haven't gotten over the L they took

Niel Young a whiteboy did a MUCH better job with this topic back in the 70s

"Southern Man"

Southern man
better keep your head
Don't forget
what your good book said
Southern change
gonna come at last
Now your crosses
are burning fast
Southern man

I saw cotton
and I saw black
Tall white mansions
and little shacks.
Southern man
when will you
pay them back?
I heard screamin'
and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

Southern man
better keep your head
Don't forget
what your good book said
Southern change
gonna come at last
Now your crosses
are burning fast
Southern man

Lily Belle,
your hair is golden brown
I've seen your black man
comin' round
Swear by God
I'm gonna cut him down!
I heard screamin'
and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long?

I am old school.

Grew up on LL.

But unlike today's young'ns I never idolized rappers, or actors or athletes....just because a muhfucka becomes famous does not make them smarter than me....

I have no problem saying fuck LL.....stay in your lane son...

I don't give a fuck what a muthafucka says about what a confederate flag means to him because to me it will only ever represent the flag flown by an army that was fighting for the right to continue to enslave my ancestors...PERIOD.

Let a muthafucka wear a swastika and see whether or not muhfuckas say that flag shouldn't be judged....FOH

Complete and utter bullshit. The reason many say the Civil war was so destructive is because it pitted brother against brother and divided families who had differences of opinions about slavery.

Robert E. Lee CHOSE to fight for slavers......FOH

One of the most rambling incoherrent posts in this enitre thread..

did anybody say anything about not judging that flag ?

there are protests every year somewhere in the south in regards to that flag..

I am old school too and have great grandparents that were born into slavery and it just sounds funny when cats talk about ancestors like it was that long ago.
