@tallblacknyc i dont know if you remember back in 2013 when wonderbread went out of business. but i was working for them back then and i drained my 401k and bought a ford step van and built a route in harlem...i was feeding 4 families off of that one route.
I thought about doing something like this. I gave the idea to my investment group, but they weren't keen on it and refused.

What's the honest pros and cons? If you could buy the ideal route right now, what would it be?

it depends on where you live and what your comfortable delivering. some things are easier to handle then others...what i would do is go out to about 5 markets in my area and see who has the most shelve space. that's a clear indicator of who's controlling the market. but im from new york and if i had the chance id buy either a pepperidge farm route(cookie or bread), a bores-head route(good luck with those, them white boys got them on lock) or a fedex route..i heard fedex comps you for alot of the expenses that other companies dont.

the pros are
1. you are your own boss...you pretty much set your own hours , unless the account has a specific delivery time window...even then there's ways around it.
2.tax purpose...most of the companies dont report your earnings and you deal with alot of cash accounts.
3.equity...being able to sell a portion of your route at whatever the current industry rate is...here is an example. if the going rate for a pepperidge farm route is 10 to 1 and the portion that your want to sell generated you 20k over the course of a year. you can sell that portion for 200k.
4. having the option to be an owner operator, or just owner...this is my goal. to get the route to the point to were i can just stay home and collect and have someone run the route for me.
5. the money is good...1500 to 2k a week for 36 hours worth of work isnt bad.

the cons
1.the route can own you sometimes but this is the case with any business right?
2.dealing with compliance. you can lose you route if you breach your contract.
3.working most holidays..again if you hire someone this is an easy fix.

Man I had a few of these damn things

Flipping sports tickets (tix broker)
Purchase tickets in advance for certain games or season ticket packages when they retail for a lower price (especially from small market holders who do not know their value, aka GSW tickets). Throw them up for sale when the event is close to selling out or after the event has sold out. Then it is name your price time. If someone really wants to go they will pay for it. Conference Finals seats and Finals seats can go for unbelieveable prices.

One tip is to have an exclusive angle in your section. Such as the only holder with 3 seats or 5 seats. If someone has children or if there are a group of friends hanging out and there are only pairs of seats left, then you are in a position to be the shot caller once again. You can pretty much name your price.

Some organizations like the Yankees banned Stubhub, so there are some spots and teams that are off limits.

Cons
-Slower sales during NFL and college football season (sports fans have more big venue options)
-A player work stoppage or strike could sink you.

Bonus
You can pretty much do the same thing for concert tix

Does anyone know anything about Fasiostash? I think the couponers I follow on IG are low key reselling their free goods for $10 a pop on there.

Shit word...

Shit I probably could make a killing with diapers!

They sell those on there too. Let me see if I can find some pictures...
I don't use the app, but if this is what they are doing (the "coupon community" can be very tight lipped) it explains a lot.

These are the kinds of posts I see. But I see everything from makeup to makeup brushes, to baby items, to shampoo...

Appreciate the feedback. I was looking for something that's more set it and kinda forget it, but it seems this type of venture requires a lot of your physical input.

Can't put my entire career on hold for a side business. Only way I can make this work is if I partnered with someone else that I can trust to handle the day to day operations.

no problem bro i totally get it thats the problem that i had with my first route in harlem my partner(friends for like 11 years) felt like he was entitled to more money even though this was totally my venture....had to sell my share of the business..it wasnt worth the constant arguing. so finding someone you can trust is a must.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Ppl who don't know their role & ppl I can't trust to do the job properly.

somebody sent me a pm asking about it so this is what im currently working on.... microblading & xtreme lashes. this is where the money is!!!! the certification costs are kinda high but the returns are worth it.

gotta be a licensed barber or cosmetologist / esthetician - requires school. its worth the time & money.

Eyebrow Arching
I picked it up in cosmetology school. I NEVER used a straight razor before that. It was either do it or get a zero for the day. My 1st time trying it I hit a home run & developed my talent / skill. picked up some make-up artistry books & started going to mac make up classes when they were offered @ studioplex in atlanta.

My complaining ass co-workers really helped me focus on doing something really specialized & thats when I saw the lane.
In total took about 6 - 7 years to build my reputation up to the point where people IN the business knew my name... product line platform artist, make up artist, product designers I would work trade shows like for sisters only, bronner bros hair show, & other shows like them. That shit is a grind BUT the money you make + the connections & extra pussy is insane. State to sate.

Its relatively cheap to set up a brow spot...... you dnt need a lot of space. 600 - 800 sqr feet is more than enough. you could do something nice with a 400 sqr foot spot. a good set up would be 5 stations + yours @ $250 per week OR commissions of 50/ 50, 60/40, or maybe even 70/30 if you have someone managing & working a station. If you are good, people will want to work with you or learn from you. the goal would be to be able to do shows like the essence festival or the v-103 car & bike show, & especially bridal conventions. Also doing proms as a group & free / community shit for women in shelters & old folks homes is FREE advertisement via awareness campaigns w/ radio stations ect.

a case of razor blades is about $40 for 60 pks of 5. doing 60 ppl in a day isnt hard @ all.
wax isnt expensive either. you have several different types of body hair removing wax. some people use a form of wax called sugar. shit cost more. alcohol, tissue, cotton balls, trash cans, hospital grade razor blade receptacles, paper towels, basic make-up set up for each station is optional based on how you charge for the space. any percentage payers should not have to pay for ANY of the shit they need to do their job. over all operating cost are very low & the return is incredibly high. shit is like coke money.
you wax eyebrows.... chicks gonna ask if you do arms & legs too.... eventually they gonna ask if you do brazilian wax jobs:hellyea:. Some bitches you not gonna want to do..... but you gonna have too once you start doing the fine chicks. you dnt want to get hit w/ any type of discrimination bullshit... & a angry / jealous black woman with some change is nothing but a headache & bad times waiting to happen.

Retailing good quality make-up & skin care products that you use on the client is an excellent retail opportunity. They will buy whatever you use on them. Securing vendors isnt hard. Hit the international hair show.

original content creation..... videos of work / services being preformed, recording of community service events, demonstration/ tutorial videos, & pics. blogs.... draws people. women love to see themselves in your videos & on your biz cards.

In order to promote, market, advertise, preform either of the services you MUST be certified by the people / company that trains you on how to actually provide the service. They have global listings of CERTIFIED service providers.

this is a breakdown of what you can make doing the xtreme lashes

Say bro over the last couple of weeks, I've been looking at ways where the kids could capitalized. They're fresh on the highschool scene. My initial idea was a few pieces of clothing(maybe like 10 pieces). What brought me to that idea was hearing them talk about a shirt from Kendall Jenner.
Lately I've been thinking about the possibles then I thought about this thread.
This post stuck with me ever since I read it. So once I thought about this thread, the details of this post seemed like a nice situations to look into.

Last night when we got home, before we went into the house I told them, "Start thinking about some ways y'all could make money off your friends/student body".

I told them, "I thought about getting a clothing line or something where y'all get sell a few pieces of clothes"

They really didn't say anything, then I said, "Or y'all could learn how to do eyebrows. Just think about the party y'all was at tonight, if it had 30 girls there, 20 dollars a piece....that's how quick $$$$ add up"

Then one said, "Ten dollars won't be a bad price, that $300 just today"

I quickly replied, "Well you know those same eyebrows probably gonna need some attention again in 30 days, I'm just saying"

They started smiling...

So I'm looking into this for them

I know I made it sound like a solid SIDE HUSTLE..... but it isnt! It IS a full time JOB. One that REQUIRES SCHOOLING & STATE LICENSING. You should really check with your states licensing board & specifically inquire about fines & penalties you can recieve if you get caught practicing cosmetology /Esthetician without a license. TAX EVASION.....
there is a way to not report ALL of your cash income. but if you have no license to work, no business license, you are fucked. A law suit can put ya home / property in jeapordy, & also leave you stuck with some hefty fines & legal fees is someone wants to sue you. Maybe not the kids... but their parents... & they will win!

all it takes is 1 video of 1 clients/ customer who got their shit fucked up or their face burned....& you can find ya self in court with your kids. ijs.

so...... ist things 1st! you cant charge the FULL retail salon / barber shop price IF none of your kids have a license & arent working out of a shop. NOBODY is paying an unlicensed kid $20 to razor arch or wax their brows outta their house..... :smh::lol:@ $10...... they can go to a licensed service provider w/ a shop for $10. Asian nail salons charge that all day! Some places charge $20 for brow wax ( i do)... but the place is usually LAID OUT...... the service provider has a SOLID reputation as does the facility the customer is coming too, you not providing all of that so, $5 is more like it! If their eyebrows arent on point....... then why would another chick pay them???? Chicks will let a new mufukka do their hair...... they aint fukin with the NEW brow artist..... that shit is WAY MORE important to women... Ive learned that over the years. Most women get their brows done EVERY 2 weeks.... if they get them waxed they usually get their top lip waxed, chin waxed, & some get their cheeks waxed too..... each section is a charge! YOU DO NOT EVER SHAVE ANY OF THOSE AREAS.....NEVER!

You & ALL of the kids involved can & receive a heavy fine if & when A) a hater calls the state board of cosmetology / barbering on you! They will come to your house, they will camp out & WATCH to see whats going on w/ traffic & so forth...... B) when ya kids fucks up someones eyebrows, that will happen.

Unlicensed KIDS..... preforming work .... doing BUSINESS which requires a LICENSE has the potential for lots of legal issues I doubt you want. Unless they have the time to go to cosmetology school I dunno.... Ive had my license since I was 15 years old.

Whose going to teach your kids HOW to use a razor to arch brows with? Teaching someone how to arch brows is the same as teaching someone how to shave a person..... BEST practice is applying shaving cream on a balloon..... if they can get the cream off the balloon w/o popping it, then they good!!!!! every pop is a cut & bleeding client. how bad that razor cut is depends on the person holding the blade. Stitches & possible eye damage is a strong possibility & potential law suit.

What are you going to do with ALL the old razors used ( bio hazard material is what they become) ?

What do you do for customers who your kids cut in the process? (potential lawsuit + you running an unlicensed business + unlicensed service provider + city & state tax evasion)

What do you do when they fuck up someones brows? their friends MIGHT not get mad but what about the parents? (potential lawsuit + you running an unlicensed business + unlicensed service provider + city & state tax evasion)

Whose going to teach them HOW to use hot wax???? Its VERY easy to burn someone.... literally take their skin off!!! ( ive done it a few times early in my career),What do you do when 1 of your kids burns a customer, again their friends MIGHT not get mad but what about the parents? (potential lawsuit + you running an unlicensed business + unlicensed service provider + city & state tax evasion)

you will need a business license & tax id# to buy stuff whole sale..... it would be incredibly stupid to get that & not have a license to do the actual job. you cant get insurance w/o a license for ya business w/o a business license.... who has business insurance w/o a license to practice said business???? see how this works?

NOT saying it wouldnt work w/o a license BUT....... you setting ya self up for a lot of LEGAL issues you arent factoring in. this isnt a get money quick thing.... it is/ can be for those who've went to school for their cosmetology, Esthetician, or barbering license... the flip side is it can be the catalyst to move them into the arena. I started cutting hair in the house. Some states allow stylist to have an apprentice... maybe you got a hair stylist on ya team that wouldnt mind investing their time in your kid(s), they can ONLY have 1 @ a time. Is easier than going to school.. for some.

If they going to go to school.... send them for cosmetology... it covers Esthetician & barbering . It should take 2 yrs in any tech school program.

WHOLESALE NEEDS
case of straight razors
cotton / tissue
alcohol
bio hazard waste receptacle for used blades

Something to consider is ..... doing make up / make overs for prom/ events..... they can take classes @ MAC. all mac pro stores offer them. I dnt know what the cost is... but when I worked for mac I took as many of them as I could.

There is a way for them to get a 40% discount card to buy their product / supplies. As long as they are a make-up artist w/ a business card, portfolio of their work, they can get 1. I dnt think there is any cost involved. Ive had mine for almost 20 yrs now.

Great detailed info bro, let me say I did/do understand the risk involved.
I knew schooling would be required etc... I was really only planting the idea, for the future.

I'm look to see what's available in the area, there might be classes available once they get older.

something we started, didn't want to put it out there until it was finalized and ready.

me and a friend started a "credit reporting service". since i have a retail site now built and ready to upload, what it involves is putting up bullshit products that no one would ever buy and set up it up as if everything is purchased on a finance program. Membership varies from 15.00 a month to 45.00 a month. You're not buying shit, you are basically paying me every month to report to equifax that you are paying on a revolving credit line, that credit line is based upon what membership package you sign up for. We continue to report to the credit bureau as long as you pay the membership fee when you end it we simply stop reporting. when i get 100 people in it then i can offer to report to trans union for 15.00 more a month to any package. Basically getting paid to pay a girl to sit there for maybe 2 hours a month to input payment history. Avg bring in monthly i predict is $7000.00 all profit.

no i don't want any of you to sign up we have enough people on a list already waiting wednesday for it to launch, and we have dozens of car lots and other places that are sending us customers for it. \

you can do it too, it's not a competition thing, actually the more people that offer that type of service the more people can buy to boost there credit. that's how we built our credit scores up we all reported on each other
