Let's help pres. Obama biss this jobs bill!!!

The below is an email response from my congressional representative:

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about the current state of our economy. I appreciate your thoughts and welcome the opportunity to respond.

I am encouraged by President Obama's recent speech about job creation and look forward to working on getting the American Jobs Act passed through Congress. The American Jobs Act would give tax cuts to small businesses to help them hire and grow; put workers back on the job while rebuilding and modernizing America's infrastructure; support innovative reforms to the unemployment insurance program and other new pathways to get the unemployed and the underemployed back to work; and provide tax relief for American workers and their families.

By investing in ideas that get Americans back to work and by looking carefully at what the federal government spends on other programs, we can lower our deficit and at the same time position our nation to come out of this tough time stronger than before. That is essential to get our nation on a pathway to prosperity.

Consider this: from 2008 to 2010, twelve of the nation's largest corporations paid an effective tax rate of -1.5%. That means they paid no taxes at all, and in fact received $62.4 billion in subsidies even though they made more than $171 billion in profits. We can fix this by reforming and simplifying the tax code and can start by cutting corporate tax loopholes. Also, I am working in Congress to pass a bill I have cosponsored, the Tax Equity Act of 2011 (H.R. 1631), which I introduced with fellow New York Congressman Jerry Nadler. If enacted, it would adjust income tax rates to reflect the different costs-of-living that exist in the country. I know costs of living are different in Islip and in Idaho, but our income tax system does not reflect those differences. New Yorkers pay some of the highest taxes in the country, but we also pay some of the highest housing, food and gas costs. Middle class and working families in New York are taxed as if they were rich and this legislation will help remedy those differences.

I also believe we can do this in a way that doesn't take from the current generation of workers' retirement benefits. We can enact reforms that strengthen Social Security and Medicare and ensure they will be there for those working now and paying into those programs. For instance, I've supported payment reforms that would end Medicaid payments to hospitals when they make mistakes and more forcefully end waste, fraud, and abuse. These changes have already resulted in a recovery of $4 billion just last year. These efforts to strengthen benefits through increased efficiency are exactly what we need to focus on now.

Our economy has hit middle class families hard. They have seen jobs lost, paychecks shrink, local taxes rise, and home values collapse. We have never cut our way out of a recession and our present situation is no different. We all agree that our current levels of debt are unsustainable. But we need to find commonsense solutions to our problems. Getting a handle on the federal deficit will require shared sacrifice and some difficult decisions, but not at the expense of our future and investments that will pave the way for long term economic growth.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with your concerns as Congress moves forward to strengthen our economy.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so again on any matter of concern. You can also visit my website (http://house.gov/israel) to learn more about the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-mail updates.

Sincerely,

STEVE ISRAEL

Funny thing, it seems that the people who are most vocal against taxing the rich, are the poor.

That's unfortunately true, but I blame our poor educational standards, extreme laisez fare capitalism indoctrination, and a lack of perspective (empathy) for the mindset that many of the poor have. They aspire to be rich, so that they don't have to pay high taxes, but that aspiration is causing them to vote against their economic interests.

Nah dawg. The poor & middle class should just keep begging other rich people to take the money from some other rich people & hope they give them enough of it or spend it just right so they'll be well off. Duh!

Um ok. My reply to your comment was a sarcastic one, I was agreeing with what you said. But if you want to be an internet tough guy, have at it. SON.

Rule Number 1. No "Personal Attacks" between users. Of course, at some point we all may be guilty of being a bit over zealous in making our points and sometimes frustration may lead to someone accusing another of being .... well ... lets just say, less than intelligent. LOL. Nevertheless, I think it is important that the discussion remains civil and that we avoid the personal attacks.

Rule Number 2. If you must resort to personal attacks to prove your point or disprove someone else's opinions, etc., then perhaps you need to take that to the BGOL board where talking shit is not only tolerated, but expected.

Great job sis! You looking good in that pic btw.

This thread is really about action. I'm not for all of the debate. If anyone has problems with the jobs bill, then they should contact their elected leaders, so that they can make amendments to the plan. Thus, I'm not going to engage in debate with anyone on this plan, because those debates or questions should be answered by elected officials.

Funny thing, it seems that the people who are most vocal against taxing the rich, are the poor.

INDEED!
The overwhelming majority of poor people who vote republiklan are poor whites located in the South. In the poorest states in the US, which are predominately Southern, poor whites devastatingly voted for republiklans over the democrats in 2008. I think this is a combination of fundamentalist christian religion indoctrination and entrenched racism.

The RepubliKlan plan for America is to have as many people as possible scrambling for survival as you see in the video below.

If anyone supports the Buffet Rule, then please contact your congress persons in the House and Senate to show your support.

Change begins with our collective action!

Friend --

This morning, the President proposed the "Buffett Rule," which would require those earning more than $1 million a year to pay the same share of their income in taxes as middle-class families do.

This proposal makes sure millionaires and billionaires share the responsibility for reducing the deficit. It would correct, for example, the fact that Warren Buffett's secretary currently pays taxes at a higher rate than he does.

The other side is already saying it's "class warfare" -- that's their rhetorical smokescreen for providing millionaires and billionaires special treatment.

As the President said this morning, "This is not class warfare -- it's math."

The wealthiest Americans don't need further tax cuts and in many cases aren't even asking for them. Requiring that they pay their fair share is the only practical way forward. The Republican alternative is to drastically slash education, gut Medicare, let roads and bridges crumble, and privatize Social Security. That's not the America we believe in -- but many in the Republican leadership actually prefer those policies, which explains their refusal to act.

That's why they'll say "tax increase" over and over again, trying to muddy the waters and trick ordinary Americans into thinking the Buffett Rule will hurt them. And if we don't speak out right now, they just might get away with it.

If you stand with President Obama in this fight and want to see the Buffett Rule passed -- say you'll get his back now.

Of course, the Buffett Rule won't really touch most Americans -- only 0.3% of households will even be affected.

And without it, the only way to reduce our debt is to savage the programs that seniors and middle-class families rely on.

That's exactly what the President refuses to do -- in fact, he's said he'll veto any bill that changes benefits for folks who rely on Medicare but doesn't raise serious revenue by asking the wealthiest Americans or biggest corporations to pay their fair share.

This isn't just a commonsense approach to cutting the deficit -- it's the only way to make sure we can provide security to people who work hard and play by the rules.

So right now, I'm asking you to say you'll stand with the President on something that won't be easy. Get the President's back today:

Friend --

Today, President Obama stood on the Brent Spence Bridge that connects Ohio to Kentucky and spoke about how the American Jobs Act could help rebuild that bridge and thousands like it, and put construction workers and manufacturers back to work.

It has been exactly two weeks since President Obama proposed the American Jobs Act -- a fully paid-for plan made up of ideas that both parties have endorsed in the past and ought to be able to get behind now. A wide majority of Americans who have heard about the Jobs Act want to see it passed right away.

But Congress has yet to take any action on it whatsoever.

There's no excuse for any more delays. The President is out there bringing this plan straight to the American people. It's on us to help put the pressure on Congress.

House Speaker John Boehner -- who will be leading the Republicans in negotiations -- needs to hear what Americans like you think.

Call Speaker Boehner's office now at (202) 225-0600 -- tell him not to let politics get in the way of creating jobs, and ask him to help make sure Congress passes the American Jobs Act.

Then click here to let us know how it went.

President Obama this week also outlined his plan to pay for the bill while still reducing our deficit. At the heart of the plan is the Buffett Rule, a commonsense principle that would require people earning more than $1 million a year to pay the same share of their income in taxes as middle-class families do.

If that's a proposal you think makes sense, it's time to let John Boehner hear it.

Republicans have responded to the plan with more cries of "class warfare," a term that apparently applies when the President asks millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share but not when Republicans cut urgently needed programs for middle-class families.

As the President said, this isn't class warfare -- it's simple math. If we want to reduce the deficit and put America back to work, we can't put the entire burden on the middle class. But we know that's exactly what congressional Republicans will do if we don't take action -- decimate programs seniors and families rely on, while protecting every loophole and giveaway for billionaires and big corporations.

None of us have time to sit around and wait while our lawmakers dig in for a political fight when there are reasonable solutions for creating jobs on the table right now.

As the President told Congress more a week ago, "this plan is the right thing to do right now. You should pass it. And I intend to take that message to every corner of this country. And I ask every American who agrees to lift your voice: Tell the people who are gathered here tonight that you want action now. Tell Washington that doing nothing is not an option. Remind us that if we act as one nation and one people, we have it within our power to meet this challenge."

He was talking to us, so let's do our job. Call John Boehner in Washington now -- and tell him it's time to pass this jobs bill.

Thanks,

Messina

Stop complaining!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Maxine Waters didn’t like what Obama had to say to the CBC the other night, noting that she doesn’t believe he would say tell the gay groups or Jewish groups that have challenged him on his policies that they need to stop complaining. And she reinforces the idea that Obama has the CBC’s undying support.

You know if this were Bill Clinton giving this kind of message, I have a feeling they’d be marching on the White House this morning:

You libs should be pissed off! You elected this joker and with 96% of your vote. Luckily some blacks are starting to see the light. He would never tell this to any other voting block. This is putrid!! You deserve the representation you elect. Yet he knows how loyal you guys are to the drug called government.:smh:

Kinda like somethin Phil Gramm would say!

McCain's top economic adviser Phil Gramm tells America to suck it up and stop complaining about the economy:

Thank you for the vid brother! From your response, I gather you are well informed of the political process, and that you are in contact with your state's elected officials whenever there is a piece of legislation, so that you can voice your opinion on the matter. Continue the great work!

I've always found it interesting when a "so-called" black person resorts to typically white divide-and-conquer tactics, when dealing, debating, discussing, etc., with OTHER BLACK PEOPLE.

In an anonymous setting like this board, it tends to make one wonder, who's really behind that user name :hmm:
