Ok, I've been on these boards for a while before the no lurking rule and whatnot. I also visit and post on various forums as well but all the same, espcially when afro/africian-american/black centric, they always critique the South about the bad things, the negative subjects, and etc. But never once do I see a topic or post about the good side of things about the South.

Now, I'm from Birmingham, AL. Sure, I see a lot of crap going on within my own community, city, and even state but I also see other regions outside the South that are just as messed up mentally and ethinically.

Yes, I'm mad at music, life, and politics concerning at our own black people, esp. the South. I just wish someone with enough gall would just say "Hey, we have our flaws but we also have good qualities!" or something similar.

The main point is that I always see the bashing of the good Southern blacks (and whites for this matter) because we are stereotyped by the misfortune of being associated with the ignorant, mentally stagnat, low moral, "IT'S BECAUSE I'M BLACK, AIN'T IT?!?" people.

What I want to know are these two things: Do you also have the same problems within your own state/region and do you also think that good Southern people get unwanted infamy?

Well, yeah, about 75% are cool and will say hi to you if you make contact with them but the other 25% are just assholes, stuck in the old days, not accepting anythiing other than their own messes up lifestyle.

Friendly yes.. but very ignorant to a lot of life so i have found.. it was shocking to me the way people lived in Flrodia when i moved down here... they are very lazy here and dont do much to be better than the system... now of course this is not ALL people in Florida.. but you look @ the blacks here with education and doing things and most of them are from other places and even if they are from Florida they dont do much to help others here.. and i really feel like the Blacks in the south where forgotten about... so im trying to kick of this non profit thing to do my part befiore i move back up north... ​
 
South - Pros

Better cost of living
cheaper education costs
lower college entrance standards
friendlier people
more black people
tons of country black pussy growing on trees waiting to be picked
people who will buy into your being better than others merely because you are from somewhere considered more sophisticated etc
plenty of sunshine
4 seasons and no harsh winters
low crime (depends on your location but for the most part)
Even most landlocked areas have lakes and rivers
more beautiful
opportunities to enjoy outdoors - camping, hunting, fishing etc
lax gun laws
carry permits
influx of outside corporate investment due to labor situation
low taxes
cheap land

California and NY are at least 1000 miles away


That's all I can think of off the top. The south is great. There is countless opportunity in the south. On the low many white people are cashing out their housing boom equity and bouncing to Asheville,NC, Greenville, SC and Charlotte.

Poor blacks and whites down south are a pool of victims that people feed on for easy cash. Its disgusting

I learned quite a bit while in the south from them dudes.

It depends on what circle you're in.

The south is misrepresented in the media for sure with
all the mush mouth mcs that be talkin dumb shit but
everyone knows it aint where you from its where ur @.


Come to think of it my circle of friends were better in the south.
 
I've only noticed one major difference between the Northerners and Southerners:

White southerners will call you a n**** to your face, white northerners will smile in your face, then call you a n***** once you're out of earshot.
 
See, I've only been New York City twice and met some cool, smart people. Yeah, I've even met that like my accent while, in turn, like hers. Go figure. However, on the second trip, I met a complete dumbass being stereotypical of a true Southern black.

He went on a rant about on how the South is all messed up. He also talk about how great the NYC is compared to the South. I guess he was trying to put himself above me when he asked me where I was from (I was in the local stopmart store asking for directions for a nice chillout spot and he asked me where I was from}.

I just looked at him, was about to say something, until a nice lil' old lady came into my defense. It was funny as hell but he was humbled by her words and made points about no matter regionThe North and South are that, regions. It's the small amount bad people that make the whole area look like ofay and sellouts.

Point is we all have our flaws but don't judge a book by its cover.
 
I'm from up north, but have lived in a few southern states for short periods of time. What I don't like about the south is the slower pace of life and generally speaking, there seems to be comparatively less opportunities for economic advancement for blacks. Or even whites for that matter. Hence, the northward migration(although the reverse is now common).

What I really do love about the south is the people. Hands-down, the friendliest folks in the nation. I sware, I have never in my life been shown so much love by brothers and sisters. Many of them total strangers, who are quick with the"how you doing" and show major love, when you attempt to reach out to them. They remind me of brazilians in that way.....

There seems to be a stronger sense of community in the south, as opposed to most northers states; where it's common to live in a house for years upon end and not even know your immidiate neighbors etc..
