If love is in the form of a circle, what lines would you cross to be with your soulmate?
Such is the question at the heart of the teaser trailer for writer-director John Ridley's new film, Needle in a Timestack, which EW is debuting exclusively above. In the mind-melding clip, we're introduced to Leslie Odom Jr.'s character Nick, who kicks things off in a futuristic, ominously decorated room. He's asked where he'd like to go, and is informed he can travel to "any time" he'd care to visit. Apparently, he wants to go to his wife Janine, played by Cynthia Erivo, whom he's apparently starting to forget. "Wherever you are, whenever you are, I will find you. We'll find our way back," he says.
Per the film's official synopsis, the Needle in a Timestack is set in the near future, where Nick and Janine live in marital bliss until Janine's ex-husband (Orlando Bloom) warps time to try to tear them apart using Nick's college girlfriend (Freida Pinto). As Nick's memories and reality disappear, he must decide what he's willing to sacrifice o hold onto — or let go of — everything he loves. Can love endure in a future where time is fluid, and all of life may be just an illusion?

Ridley, who wrote the screenplay based on a short story of the same name by Robert Silverberg, is thrilled that audiences will finally get to see the time-crossed story on the big screen. "After the year-plus we've all endured, it's an absolute joy to present a film rooted in love, allurement, and possibilities," he said in a statement to EW. The film also stars Jadyn Wong, Laysla De Oliveira, James Kirk, and more.
Needle in a Timestack hits theaters, on-demand, and digital Oct. 15.

Black love and sci-fi, I'm in.

Edit*** these damn white devils messing up the TVA timeline trying to steal black women from us. Gotta a bruh ready to enlist in Space Force and shit.

Sidenote - Cynthia is talented as fuck (I really liked her character in that HBO joint 'The Outsider'. Hell, she made an otherwise bland show interesting)...but got damn Hollywood. She ain't the only talented black woman out there. On some highlander shit, there can only be one. < /rant>

Something different plot wise. Nice
Something different indeed. I saw this movie on a whim because I saw an IMDb commercial for it. I downloaded it, but I'm going to the theater today to buy a ticket.

I don't bootleg black movies and neither should you. Try to give them their due. Go on whatever cheap day they have and buy a ticket if you bootleg the movie. Show them some love

There was Superior creative artistic development, you understood the motivation of all characters and if this movie starred all white people they would be talking about Oscar considerations.

Damn 3.7 on IMDb :eek2:

They love shiting on black movies. Or movies with black people. I rated it a 9 with hopes of bringing up the IMDb score. That 3.7, it was 4.7 a couple of days ago when I put my rating in

If they never met, how come he remembers her?
They met. But there are time shifts and those time shifts can have minor differences in your life ( like you're in the Marine Corps instead of the Navy,no spoilers) or it could have significant changes

( for example in the 2013 movie About Time, timeshift can result in you having a baby boy instead of a baby girl or vice versa, again, no spoilers)

But they hate interracial shit on the screen more.
Look, I'm not a huge fan of the interracial thing either, but it exists and it exists frequently in both white man and black women and black man and white women

Personally, I don't find many white women attractive ( my personal favorites are Rachel McAdams, Natalie Zea, and Jessica McNamee) but for the most part most of them wouldn't get a second look

I can't see myself not watching a movie because I don't like the interracial relationship. I can see myself not liking the movie because I don't want to see two men kiss

If interracial relationships draw that much ire and disgust from you as it does seeing two men kiss then there's something wrong with you

Interracial relationships is it something that I don't find a huge problem with. I don't do it but that's my personal choice

uuuuuhhhhh huh........... So wouldn't that also affect everyone that knew her?

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and seeing black people in a different space than we're used to. A different type of movie genre. It was creative.

I downloaded this movie a few weeks ago and today I am buying it off Amazon. I try not to cheat black movies. We get cheated enough as is

Before the pandemic, I used to go to the movie all the time. With the black movies, especially the ones that I heard were not good, I would buy a ticket and walk away. There was some Omar Epps movie I bought a ticket from her and just walked away because I heard the reviews were bad

But I try to always support Black movies and today I rented the movie off Amazon to give support
