Dude Consistently contained his Man, AND when switched off a screen, he consistently forced the person he was defending into a shoot or forced them to pick up their dribble, whatever position he got switched on.
all while NEVER taking plays off...
Lebron This Year would take Several plays Off on the defensive end in games....and at the 4 (the position he played this season) he wasnt the Best at Guarding other 4's... jsut because he could guard them, doesnt mean he was the best at it.
I could see an argument for him last year, but this year he has taken a step back defensively....
and people need to Stop using Lebrons defense against Derrick Rose from 2 years ago to make an Argument for him today.

Well, some players enjoy playing Defense.... I can name players in the past and I can name plays in the present that dont take plays off defensively... Noah & Mike Conley to name a few..
the best Perimeter defender this year was Andre Iguodala... he took very little plays off this year. and played better defense in a higher paced game than everyone in the league.
am I knocking LBJ or anyone for taking plays off. He's still an All NBA 1st Team Defender and IMO he has the potential to be the Best defensive player in the League being that he has all the physical tools.. but the Fact of the matter is this, he got exploited by a hand full of 4's this year and his EFFORT regressed from Last years Approach.

I didnt expect him to win it this year. Being in 2nd the last 3-4 years is an accomplishment in itself. He probably wont win one until his 'offense' falls off and he's no longer the MVP. Then it'll be OK to recognize his defense as the best. The irony is, he will more than likely make 1st team all defense and Gasol will probably be 2nd team. Watch!

Its impossible to recall All of the games because there was just so many games....
I can recall Wade and Chalmers to a lesser extent getting the responsibility for guard most of the best Perimeter players on the Heat this year....
But for starters, I just look through the 1st month of the season Alone and leave notes to the ones I specifically remember....

*LBJ didnt guard anyone specifically in this game but he sagged off a lot on his assignments allowing wide open threes from Novak, JR Smith and Kidd..allowing 40 points from the w/ 10 3's... and the Knicks beat them by 20, 104-84

*a Career high for Parsons and he also had a nice little throw down on LBJ in this game... I remember this game, this one the game when Lin throw up an wide open Airball three to win it.

Boris Diaw (5 for 7 12 points 6 rebounds) NOV29TH
*LBJ playing Anderson and sagging off of him.. allowed him to take and make 2 wide open shots.. Also allowing losing track of Diaw multiple times getting him open shots.. this game was the game were Popovich sent Duncan, Parker and Ginobili home and they still almost Won.
Keep in mind, Most of the games All year long, Lebron usually sagged off of the Weakest Offensive player on most of the these teams when he wasnt guard the 4.. He didnt lock anyone down this year specifically and he took much more plays off than Last year...
He let a lot of scrubs do good while they was being guarded by him earlier in the season also...

On March 3, 2013, the Heat played the Knicks in a nationally televised Sunday afternoon game. Carmelo Anthony torches the Heat in the 1st half when being checked by Shane Battier and Knicks lead by 14 at halftime (45-59). LeBron switches onto him in the 2nd half, and holds him to 3-11 shooting for 8 2nd half points (he had 32 for the game). The Heat rally back from down 11 at the start of the 4th to win. This is but one example of LeBron's defensive prowess (against the scoring champ no less) this season.

Number one, Noah cannot guard the perimeter vs anyone with speed, they would blow right past him off the dribble for an easy lay up... I've seen it happen plenty times during switch ups where he was isolated..
Sure James never plays 100% game 7 mode but neither does anyone else..
I never said he was the best at guarding the 5 or 4 but he is as good as most Lastly why not be able to use Rose in this argument (he was the last MVP other than James for the longest, and it was a one on one match up at the end of the year for all the marbles, when was the last time you saw some shit like that..
That dosn't mean James stood big only against Rose, shit he has stopped plenty shooters, including Kobe after scoring 8 points in the early 4th, this year, only to blank him in the final 8 mins with the game on the line, after the switch. But other notables LeBron has played against Durant one on one with the game on the line, Howard, Gasol, basically the best of the best in the league and he has guarded them all over the court, as opposed to Noah, who usually defends a territory well..

LBJ didnt play w/ the same Intensity Defensively Like he did Last year.
LBJ for a large portion of the year played off of mediocre spot up players while a lot of times that "mediocre player" would have great nights because of LBJ leaving dudes open.
With That said, Im Not saying LBJ was NOT Great defensively... but we are judging him as a DPOY candidate so Im going to bring up his faults in terms of That...

Noah is a center in the east, the same east that don't have one dominant offensive center (sorry Lopez you are mediocre at best), this allows Noah to pack the paint and go after blocking shots knowing he has a couple of other tall guys to back him up who does the same thing.. But ask him to gaurd the perimeter or get out the paint and shut down some one like Durant or LeBron, sorry it aint going to happen.. Put Noah one on one vs the top scores and he will be owned, every single time.... Top scores see LeBron on them, they know that they have to go to their A game and pray..
While I agree that Marc Gasol shouldn't have been defensive player of the year, his team had the statistics to back it up and unfortunately for Tony Allen, Gasol got the nod.
LeBron's defense this year has been spectacular and I think he should've won the DPOY last year when he played better defense.
That being said, Paul George was the better defender between the two and I said before and will say again the that DPOY should've been Roy Hibbert or Paul George.
