what determines if he eligible for a no trade clause?? I figure being the best player on the planet, he could pull the strings however he want.
Assist.

NBA 'No-Trade' Clause = A player must be in the NBA for at least 8 seasons to even be eligible for a 'No-Trade' clause... and he must have played for the team in question for at least 4 seasons. Furthermore, it doesn't have to be the 4 most recent seasons in a row.

Which means, even if a player gets traded to a new team halfway through the season, or they just play for a new team for one single day, or they join a new team on a 10-day contract... it still counts as a whole 'full year' of the 4-year requirement.

For example: After playing for the Bulls, Horace Grant played 3 or 4 years for the Orlando Magic in the mid-1990s. Then he played for the Supersonics for 1 year, then played for the Lakers for 1 year, then came back to the Magic again. When he came back to the Magic the 2nd time, he qualified for a 'No-Trade' clause because he already fulfilled his 4-year requirement.

Lebron either negotiated a 'No-Trade' clause for the final 4th year of the Laker deal, (which means the Lakers won't be able to trade him after Day 1 of the 4th year).... or he negotiated 'the option' to opt-out of his contract after 3-years and become a Free Agent.

If he opts-out after 3 years... he doesn't get the largest salary payment that comes in year 4.
(which means he would leave about $40 million 'on the table'.)

Not sure which he chose. :dunno:

If he just gets the Lakers competetive ( which he will) he will clear $300-400 mill in the next 3 or 4 years with all of the front runners sitting on piles in LA. This is the ultimate retirement parade. Not 1, not 2 , not 3 , but 400 million :itsawrap:

Hell of a business move!

James could be the first billionaire athlete still active.
He is already worth over a billion. His Nike contract exceeds a billion.

LeBron James' business partner confirms lifetime deal with Nike is worth over $1 billion. When LeBron James and Nike inked a lifetime endorsement deal at the end of 2015.

Thanx for the info.

The Clippers should just move to Seattle now cause they are irrelevant now that LeBron is going to the Lakers. Clippers even lost the last piece of lob city deandre jordan. Doc Rivers need to be coaching the Lakers instead of Luke Walton being there.

He didn't even sign a one year deal or a one year with a player option....he signed a four year deal

Meaning...he wants to retire a Laker

I'm sure them hanging on to Kobe and how they treated him had a lot to do with it
Who is Kobe?
